  1. When I reel my pro qualifier the bottom of the pinion gear rubs against the the frame and creates a rough feeling. It's like it doesn't sit right when the spool shaft is inserted. Do I have a bad gear or spool? Please help!
  2. The lily pads are so tall and thick like this http://www.fotosearch.com/UNT512/u10487788/ That a frog or anything that isn't extremely heavy doesn't even make contact with the water or is even close...
  3. My dad and I fish this small lake that contains plenty of bass according to a recent lake survey yet we have a hard time catching very many. The lake is slightly stained a reddish color and here in Indiana we have been having some unusually cold days, so water temp is pretty cool for July. Here is the best map I could find (like I said small lake)...http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/files/fw-Riddles_Lake_Bathymetry_StJoseph_County_c_July_2013.pdf The lake is also almost completely surrounded by tall densely packed lily pads that are almost unfishable. I have read about fishing main lake points but cannot seem to identify them on any lake maps of lakes around me such as this one. What techniques would you guys suggest and are there any areas that are of interest according to the map? Like I said I cannot see any points or anything.
  4. So I have been researching oils and grease and Quantum Hot Sauce and Ardents Reel Butter and oil seem to be most recommended, but would something cheaper like the stuff from Penn work just as good or what is the difference? Btw I fish nearly every day.
  5. I used some PB Blaster penetrating oil on my bearings in my BPS pro qualifier and just read from a couple sources that you shouldn't use penetrating oils for reels. Is the true? Should I be washing out my bearing right now? And what would be a good alternative oil for bearings if this stuff is bad? I will be doing a monthly cleaning of my reels so the oil doesn't have to be thick.
  6. I plan to use it with as many techniques as I effectively can, because I can't afford specialized combos for all different lures.
  7. What about the St. Croix Mojo Bass rod?
  8. I am looking for a 7' medium fast rod to pair with a Lews Tournament Pro reel. I can't afford 6 different combos so I'm looking for a suitable combo for a variety of baits. Just looking for some opinions on what I should get.
  9. Ok when I showed my dad this he said that reeling a fish in like that would injure the bass's mouth. I disagree because there is much more resistance when the fish is underwater and especially when the fish make a dive there would be much more stress on the hooked point.
  10. Since KVD is a fishing legend I assume that his retrieve of fish is correct but I have just always considered reeling a fish in like these "horsing" a fish in. I know most of them weren't too big but I mean he reels in a good 2 lb bass without it even going underwater! Is this how I should reel in bass also ?
  11. Thanks for all the replies! I will definitely have take a look at the TP especially at that price.
  12. I have been looking at tons of bait casters daiwa, shimano, Abu Garcia, pflueger, etc. and have narrowed it down to Lews. I am looking for a good speed reel (6.2:1-6.6:1) to use for as many baits as possible since I am a hs student with not much cash. I was looking at the Speed Spool LFS and was wondering if the higher end Lews are a better buy. Trying to keep price <$150. Things I'm focusing on are smoothness, casting distance, and construction/durability since this will be probably my broad range "everything else" reel.
