  1. It does look very similar to the Devon lures I see pics of on line. Congrats if you scored a $150 lure that is awesome.
  2. Yeah was afraid of that, that is why I asked. And why I said it looks like. So is it wood? Are there any markings like a logo, part #, or a name on it?
  3. Does it float? It looks like some kind of old school buzbait.
  4. Not to derail the subject as I have, as a kid, 40yrs ago used the "cheap brass" ones with my Zebco 33. But I haven't used any since I was old enough to buy my own tackle. I don't like the gold ones from appearance they look cheap, and they do seem to be cheap quality. So what are the top quality snap swivel brand and style these days?
  5. I've only had a issue when leaving a zman bait in with other baits. I have a bad habit of just tossing baits I pull off in one compartment of a Plano box. I'm kind a in a hurry wanting to swap to something else so I don't bother putting every one back exactly in its pack till later when I get back from fishing. They will deform melt turn to slime etc etc if you leave them mixed.
  6. I think its probably just as bad as ever. I walk through walmart and see tons of 2 bearing reels and combos and within a few weeks the inventory is depleted. Someone is buying a bunch a reels with next to no bearings. I do think there are some good reels for a reasonable price though. Maybe more now then before. The Penn Fierce is a decent reel. One of the last to have a all metal body, only 4 stainless steel ball bearings but mine has been quite good for a couple a years. This is a $50 or less reel that I think would last for just about anyone. Then you have the Pflueger President is another decent reel in the $50 range so I think there are good reels but I have seen a bunch that I wouldnt want to use.
  7. OP either 7:6 or 6:2 will fish just fine. Enjoy fishing its not near as complicated at its made out to be in this day and age. Just a thought if you really wanted to know what feels right to you TW has a Demo Program that you can try the reels before you buy.
  8. I got one pk of each size 3/0 4/0 and 5/0 of the Cobra Heavy Cover Flippin' Hooks to try. They are on sale $1.47 a pk of 5 at TW man they look and feel very nice. Very sharp to the touch and are welded bait keeper and welded shut eye. Got a couple Jewel Bait Hole Punch Punch Skirts in Missouri Craw. And last picked up 2 of the slim plano boxes. Man these are great I never had the slim ones.
  9. Same here ^^^
  10. I agree with rippin-lips. Also I tend to reel to fast so I like a 6.X:1 although I have a 7.0:1 and use it I think I do better with the lower retrieve speed. Of course I use mine for all around fishing. I dont buy a special reel/rod for every particular style bait. I am gulable but I havent bought that sales pitch just yet. Dont forget not many years ago a 6.X was the fast gear retrieve. The pros were catching fish and no ones arm fell off because they didnt have the 7.X:1
  11. Zoom ZMan Berkley Havoc Mann's Zoom Netbait Yamamoto These pretty much cover my usual purchases. But I am exactly like BuckerMouth15 as I have a little of all kinds but refuse to spend over $6 for a normal size package.
  12. 1. Mann's Jelly Worm I prefer black grape color. 2. The Original H&H Spinner bait in black / black yellow.
  13. Welcome
  14. You can always tell the city dwellers or at least folks never raised in the country. When they see gun they are Its not like this when we go fishing. I take a single hang gun in case it is needed. It is much better to be prepared than to not be and wish you had. We have large cats, wolves, coyoties, and an ocassional bear (very rare) that could possibly show up early morning or late evening. Not to mention this is redneck country and who knows what idiot will show up.
  15. Where do you see the "two for 100" at? I havent seen it mentioned on ther site.
  16. Gill or French Pearl for me.
  17. They dont call it the No Fun League for no reason.
  18. That aint bad but check these lunatics out.
  19. 1 Piece for me 2pc just never feels the same to me. Also 7' length has been a nice happy medium, easily fits in the bed of my truck as well. Just guessing but I dont see the average guy having 10 to 20 different rods for every particular application. This means you go with the most versitile. I dont have 20 rods to pic the one for that spot. I think this is why you see M/H so much. The way I see it if you can cast a 6'6" rod at some place 6" inches longer is not going to keep me from fishing that same place. And the same the other way a 7'6" might be a little better but my 7' will fish plenty good. People fished for a long long time with way more primitive rods reels and baits and caught plenty of fish.
  20. They still sell the hooks seperate. H&H Spinner Double Hooks (5/PK) It supprises me they still have these at my Walmart but they want nearly $3 each. If I remember right I was paying like .25 a piece for them back in the day.
  21. Mann's Jelly Worm 9" in Grape or Black Grape. The Original H&H Spinner Lure Single Colorado Blade with Black and Yellow. The only lures available to me as a kid. Amazing how they caught fish year round on Zebco combos.
  22. I would leave as much length as possible. Get the replacement tip like already mentioned for under $5 and follow the simple instructions that come with it. For someone with no rod that would be a great thing to have. Its sure not going to hurt them to have lesser equipment when they never had better.
  23. That sounded more extreme for me, more like a weekend setup for me as well. I usually "rough it" when I go on these type outings. No stoves/burners/water filters although a good Zippo lighter is with me. Ill clean n cook my catch/kill on open fire. I also carry .45 to for protection have a few bottled waters, jerky, fishing hat, prescription shades, and knife. I use one of the small Okeechobee Fats tackle bags and 2 or 3 poles. Im sure depending on where and how long I am going I will take more or less. Most of my bank fishing is within eysight of the vehicle as well though.
  24. I still do mostly use spinning reels and don't have any issues with 12-14lb mono and up to 30 braid.
