  1. I would offer him what cash I could spare or offer to take him fishing if the person seemed like someone you wanted to spend the day with on your boat. A honest person is great but I have met personalities that a day on a boat would be considered cruel and unusual punishment to one or both parties. I would think $100.00 would be a gracious offer. To a honest person that should show your gratitude.
  2. That just sounds like logic to me. I am guilty of it though. I do try new lures just because nothing is working good at times. Not always but if its something that I think might work yeah ill try it. But if it doesnt work I dont toss the bait as garbage. Ill try it some other times as well.
  3. I'd say a mojo bass would be a decent choice as well on the last medium heavy. I'm not up on the veritas but the mojo rods seem to me to lean a tad to the heavy side as well. But I like it that way. I agree for starter set this will work good. Don't get so carried away with the 7'2" or 7'3" stuff they push these days. To me 1" 2" or 3" isn't going to make a huge difference. If you start worrying about what every sponsored pro spews you will never have the perfect combination. 7' to me is a decent all around length. So anything close 6'10" to 7'4" or so are good lengths to get distance and have a decent rod to work with. Just my .05¢
  4. I agree I like the Pepper Custom Baits for spinnerbaits. Our Walmart keeps putting them on the clearance isle for $3.00 I have a a gallon container full of them. Extremely smooth and true running. Excellent hooks and also have a nice barb to hold trailers.
  5. Twinkie anyone? Er I mean discontinued red lures...
  6. Jack n Coke for me please.
  7. I didn't comment on the Battle reel because I never had one but I do have the Penn Fierce 4000 and I can say it has been a phenomenal reel for the money. Never had a issue with it and I have used it 3-4 years and it has never let me down. I use braid only though and that may change the experience to some. I know when I was looking it was one of very very few in the more affordable reels that was all metal frame as well. Made me a excellent catfish reel.
  8. I try to pick mine where the clear water gets the lightest colors to the lowest visibility getting the darkest colors. I usually try to have 3 colors that cover each general water color for me. But honestly I haven't tried to hard with the Morning Dawn, Chartreuse Gn & Ch Flk, and Firetiger (bright) type colors in a Senko. I haven't needed to as I haven't had any trouble getting the other colors to work. Clear water: White or Clear/White Pearls Stained water: Green Pumpkins, Watermelons, or any of the colors not on the extreme light or extreme dark ends of the color choices. Muddy/Dark water: Black, Black/Blue, or any of the darkest colors
  9. Most cases we will split the expenses to a satisfactory level without hardly a discussion. But its almost always I supply the soft plastics for everyone and I tell them to use the lures as I bought them to be fished. They aren't big into hard baits. But I know my friends and they may not replace the lure they lose but they will compensate with gas money if we use my truck or they will buy drinks, lunch, etc. My friends are all up in their years like me and we all know what bills and expenses are. We already culled the so called friends (users and abusers) long ago. As you age they are easier and easier to spot. Most of my circle are 20+ year friends.
  10. I've went back and forth. Tried the plastic box which does keep my 10" and larger worms straight. But didn't like not having the actual bag with description to replace if I didn't remember. I've ended up withsome of the large worms in plastic boxes and the rest in the original bags. The original bags are sorted in freezer bags and I carry what I take in a Okeechoobie Fats medium bag. The original bags just have more positives than the plastic boxes to me. The scent stays (but I'm not one of the scent believers) keeping the worms longevity better it seems. Also I like Zman and mixing them is a bad idea. I agree the guy that figures out a great solution will be well off.
  11. The baits probably work just fine as has been stated elsewhere the 90 mph reels of today were not what those baits were designed to be fished with. They didn't exist. Slow down and let the bait do its thing.
  12. Sampo ball bearings, awesome!!! Love the old school baits etc. Old men never caught any fish. We just went hungry that night. What many of you kiddos don't know is we use to fish to put a meal on the table. We had outhouses for disposing of the waste to. Yeah modern stuff has come along and some of it is nice but it has made a bunch of ******* out of men these days too.
  13. Nice fish. I throw strait braid no leader all the time. I just don't see (as you have proven again) the trouble to have a leader as worth it at all.
  14. If it's just me a long long time. But I am kind of the lure supplier for me and a couple of fishing buddies. With them a guess would be 3 to 10 yrs. They will buy the gas drinks lunch ice etc but they know I'm bringing the tackle.
  15. Nice of you to test all that and document it. There are probably a 100 other varying ways to test line but you have to start somewhere. Great job. I always like looking at facts and data. I cringe when the "Pro" says it has just enough back bone or just enough stretch and throws his plug in for what ever brand. There is no standard and there is no telling what the "just enough" is but by golly the hoards will buy on that statement because of who said it as if it was God. This goes for the YouTube "Pros" as well once they sell out to a company its all about pushing that company no matter what they say. They aren't going to make a living long if they push a non sponsor item over their own their sponsor so immediately they have become biased. Its really refreshing that you went beyond line manufacturer’s claims to get actual data to see where each brand stood. Always the more unadulterated data collected the better decisions can be made.
  16. I might have wanted one to try if I was on my last one of that style/shape/color etc that was the hot ticket of the day and really didnt want to lose it for that reason. I usually try some of the methods Glen showed etc and if it doesnt come loose Ill straiten the hook. I don't throw $10+ baits out to fish so I don't get to upset if I lose a bait.
  17. Currently I use the mushroom anchor I think its a 8lb as well its the one like they sell at Walmart. I just tie it off to the factory mounted cleats currently. I did see someone I think way back in this thread who had Lift and Lock Anchor Control brackets on their boat. They had one in the front and one in back. I want to add these as I think it would make it way easier than leaning over while trying to pull the anchor up. I have had several times it had got caught up pretty good and was no fun to pull that hard at the edge of the boat. Also you don't have to bring the anchor actually into the boat making a mess. And having one on each end I think will be real nice to slow or stop the boat from turning on ya.
  18. Here I corrected it for you. All about the $. You can always find a lawyer willing to take a stupid case as long as there is someone willing to pay. And the longer judges take these cases the worse it gets. The 17 Dumbest Lawsuits in Recent History
  19. Could you go into detail on how the "swim" down, vs "shimmy" down or how more nose down vs less can constitute to a higher priced lure. I struggle to grasp this concept on expensive (over $10 per) bait that are molded plastic and mass produced.
  20. Ahh sad to hear. Seems we see things like this way to often. Reminds me of our great government getting in bed with the insurance companies instead of regulating them to make insurance affordable. Always seems we put bandaids on huge gaping wounds as if that solves the problem.
  21. I feel that way about a lot of baits. I like trying different brands and thought this would be a good time to try with free shipping. I love lipless crankbaits so i was a sucker to try theae. I to feel $2 is a decent price for a mass produced piece of plastic though. I got bit on the shipping this time it won't happen again unless I really and I mean REALLY like these.
  22. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject but why are they being so strict on tournament fishing? Has there been a problem? Just curious as the rule seems a little dumb.
  23. If you use the slim 3701 boxes about a 2/0 hook is as big a hook that seemed to work for me. I went last night and bought paperclips after reading this thread hoping to organize a little better. All my 3/0 and bigger hooks work as far as going on the clips but what to do after that is another problem.
  24. I just tested it putting another order in and it wants to charge me $5.99 again.
