  1. I actually use that same Fenwick HMG GT72M-F-CB Crankbait Casting Rod 7'2" Medium rod power, fast rod action. It am really happy with it. That is the exact rod I just landed this 6 1/4 lber with. So yeah its tested and worked flawless. I just hated seeing the made in China sticker on it.
  2. stkbassn don't bring reason and any sort of common sense to this topic or world. Your going to totally screw up this twisted way that has become such a standard to appease. Next thing you know they will blame the Wilson glove company for the pitchers arm getting messed up. Its about that crazy now. Indeed it was sad about Dave but it is sad about the how ever many it was before him as well. R.I.P. Hopefully technology can make better helmets better equipment but until then as always there are risks when doing things that beat on your body. Don't like it don't play that simple. But if you elect to participate don't start crying after the fact. Everyone that cares to know, knows now the potential consequences. So its game on! or go play chess and cry about that.
  3. After many years being out of heavy fishing when I came back I tried a few brands and found Lews to be a great fit for me. Tournament MB is a great reel for the $ . Also I believe that since its in your hands all day and everyone has different hands 50% of the choice is personal. I mean if you hate the way it feels, weighs, or even looks you arent going to be happy even if it performs. All that aside your top 3 or 4 manufacturers all produce quality reels in the $100 to $120 range and that from my experience is really where the decent reels start generally speaking. And no I am not bashing anyone that has reels they love for less than $100 I have a few myself and they work but when I pick up a better reel its obvious.
  4. I have fished both t-rigged and, as has been said, are dependent on what the fish are looking for. The profile for one is not the same as the other so the reaction from fish wont be the same on any given day. Either bait can be equally killer in the right setting from my experience.
  5. Welcome to the deep end.
  6. See how loud they can rattle.
  7. Notice I said "I was going to give him crap about the no pic thing"
  8. I've had decent success with the Pepper Custom brand. I really like the hardware used. The swivel is smooth as silk, they have the nice stout hooks and I really really like the bait holder barb for trailers. Not to mention the skirts are really good at flaring on pause in water. My only dislike is the open line tie. I do not like the R bend as it's a cheap way to make a bait. Give me a closed line tie everytime please. The age and number of fish caught on the old school Mepp's ones I have is testament as to their ability. They are tough as nails and I can feel the thump on them all day. Spinnerbaits are a lot like crankbaits as each style has its goals in mind of what it is supposed to accomplish attracting strikes. Those with really light wire will bend but generally the ultra light wire was used to get maximum thump. Maybe the blades used didn't give much thump but wanted that specific pattern of flash so it was a compromise. This can also be compared to senko use. To get that specific senko wobble on the fall the bait is not very durable either. But we see that discussion a million times.
  9. Same here I just meant in a fun joking way giving him a hard time about it.
  10. I feel your pain I just went through the entire system on my boat. It was a mess as far as how the system was on mine. Someone had decided to disconnect the front livewell to make a cooler out of it. The aerator motor on mine was locked up so they hooked the fill hose to the aerator nozzle and set the timer to work the fill pump to recirculate. I had to remove the entire front and rear decks to repair it all correctly. But I know what I have under there now. So it was good since my redneck work is better than the redneck that did the mess before.
  11. I was going to give him crap about the no pic thing. Glad you got him on it. You what they say,"pics or it didn't happen" I agree on the phone but since I've started boating out on lakes I take it for emergency reasons. But it stays muted so it doesn't interrupt a master at work
  12. Not sure I ever been in 200 but rattle snakes, and cottonmouths are the two I see most. They in most cases as has been said usually do not want anything to do with humans. The rattle snake does more of a hold its ground type defense using its rattle to say leave me alone. And unless I am bored I do. The cottonmouth is a quiet glad to go away snake unless you surprise it like stepping on it. We have enough of them that unless one catches me by surprise they are no big deal. I've lived here all my life so nothing new dealing with them. I just respect them for their dangers and do my thing.
  13. Awesome! To bad about that rain but that was still a great day and I am sure your aunt will never forget that day.
  14. 6.25 lbs is my PB I'm claiming as I have caught bigger fish elsewhere with no scales to weigh. I caught one evening about a week ago. Was fishing a RAW08-271 from http://www.rawoutdoorsinc.com/ Actually got this lure in my LTB. Found her inside a point just across the lake from the Sanders Cove boat ramp at Pat Mayse Lake.
  15. Pit Boss or Paca Craw usually I have these left over from other uses I can salvage for trailer material.
  16. I have several colors I like to use but they basically work around three principals. A dark, a light, and a medium color. Dark would be like a black or black with any color. Light colors would be obviously any white or clear or see through variations. And then the middle ground medium colors would be your Watermelon, Summer Craw, Chartreuse etc.
  17. I have some slightly stained and some muddy here and like the Coastal Brown. I never really gave a crud what color because I really think the bait presentation is what the fish key in on but hey if your buying might not hurt to pick a color you can see if you need to line watch, or a color that will blend into the water if you think fish really have a habit of line watching.
  18. I would say get the detailed specs from each manufacturer and compare. I honestly dont know either company.
  19. Guess it didn't scare off all the fish. Personally I don't think it matters if it shined or was painted black the fish is looking at the bait imho. Congrats on the fish. Yeah I agree. I have watched several YouTube videos of guys polishing up old aluminum boats and they look awesome.
  20. My go to Craw baits Baby Paca 3-3/4" Regular Paca 5" Strike King Rage Tail Craw 4" Pit Boss if you consider it as a craw style some consider it a creature style. I use all them in various situations and rigged from a strait T- Rigged style to using as a trailer for jigs, spinnerbaits, punching etc.
  21. Purchased a Lews Tournament MB from a member here. It was loaded with Coastal Brown 12lb Trilene Big Game. I had no problem catching the 6.25 lber the other day with it on a 4.5" hard swimbait. I actually used Trilene Big Game for many years off and on as it was always available locally for a reasonable price. I never knew they had Coastal Brown color though no one here seems to stock that color.
  22. ^^^ I have the same recommendation. Possibly on a very light test say 15lb or less but 25lb braid and up its no contest for me braid is way easier to straighten out. ^^^ We must have had the same experience I agree 100%
  23. 6.8:1 (28 IPT) is more versatile.
  24. Alaska maybe?
