  1. Living with Toledo Bend Reservoir (2 1/2 hr drive), Lake Fork (1hr drive), Lake O' the Pines (1hr drive), Lake Texoma (1 1/2hr drive), Caddo Lake (2 1/2 hr drive), and many other awesome lakes I can be at in a relatively short time I really never saw a need for a bucket list. Besides by making a list you may forget one leaving it off and then what... I could spend 30 days at any lake near by and have a blast not wasting precious fishing time driving.
  2. I also have the same setup. It's a very nice light weight and sensitive enough for Bass fishing all day. I have a Lew's MB on a new M/F Aetos as well as one on the previous Aetos model MH/F. The Lew's reels I have and I have several are far from temperamental. Mine actually perform as well as the Daiwa, BPQ, and the numerous Shimano and Abus I allow in my boat. .I won't get into what ones are better as everyone has their motivation and reasons for what they like. As for sales this link might help.
  3. Ages 10-39 $846.75 Available to residents of California. Lifetime fishing licensees receive an annual sport fishing license each year for life. https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Licensing/Lifetime#773645-license-fees-and-application If it was me at age 16 yes I would. It's not like California does not have a heck of a fishery. If you can't find a nice place to fish there well look harder. That is one of a few select states that I would say yes to this question especially at your age. That is roughly 18 of the one year passes ($47) which makes you what 34 yrs old ($47/$847=18 years) and then the rest of your days will be free fishing.
  4. I think it may be ever so slightly over full based on the picture only. But I agree with WRB if you let it out and get a nice smooth fresh reinstal it will probably be perfect. Again based on the picture. It may be fine just as it is if I was standing there holding it. Or better yet just ship it to me and I will test it for you.
  5. Sure anything is possible. However the effectiveness and longevity if effective may suffer. A simple bloodknot (what I use) or any of the common leader knots are easy to learn with videos you can watch, stop, restart, pause, slomow, etc. till you understand it.
  6. Same here ^^^
  7. I tie off to the holes in the spool so the only way my line slips is if it rips a chunk out of the spool. I still would not use a cotton string/twine it just is too easy to fill the spool with whatever line you're using or use a fishing line of suitable proven characteristics. Big Game mono is dirt cheap along with Stren and available just about anywhere if you have to have a cheap backing.
  8. Well besides 6" that can be "huge" to some ... All kidding aside the general consensus is all other aspects being equal a longer rod can give you more distance on your casts. But many variables have been mentioned in these forums as to why some feel a few inches is a issue. Some bank fisherman/women say that the couple inches shorter rods keep them for hitting bushes and trees etc. when casting. Also I have heard the shorter rod is prefered from the kayak folks. Some prefer a under 7' rod for skipping too. I have even read a person's height influenced them to pick a shorter rod. A rod in the 7 ft range works great for me for bank fishing as I want to cast where others can't reach. And the longer rod might help flip/pitch a bait under some cover as well. I also fish from a 18' boat where I have room and sometimes want all the distance I can get to run a crankbait. So some of this choice can depend on what you plan to fish from, and the bait you plan to present, along with the places you plan to fish. For some good reading on this subject the forum has this thread to help. Good luck.
  9. Its technically not 7 years old yet. I have some red laminate senkos. i picked them up just a few weeks ago. Haven't used a one yet though. Now a red shad ribbontail worm is a good worm for bass.
  10. 17-pound Bass Caught in Georgia April 2015 http://www.gon.com/news/17-lb-9-6-oz-giant-from-coweta-county http://www.wideopenspaces.com/georgia-angler-catches-giant-17lb-9oz-largemouth-bass-pics/ http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/field-notes/georgia-angler-catches-17-pound-bass-fourth-biggest-in-state-history
  11. I can't seem to order from their site. Every time I click Add to Cart I get Ah for some reason Chrome didn't like their website. All good now Mozilla liked it. .
  12. Seems 130 is the more popular size. I have read some say the 90 can be a little touchy to get it to perform the plopper part regularly. But I also have read others say they had no problems with the 90. I bought the 130 because I like fishing for largemouth and I am in a nice fishing place in Texas. So for them to hit the 130 they shouldn't have any issues. Maybe somewhere else the 90 may be a better fit I don't know. I know you didn't ask but usually people contemplating buying one also want to know what colors are popular. I bought the Loon as many claim the Loon(black) or the Bone (off white) are top color picks. The Bone was sold out at BP the day I was there so I took the Loon. I am sure other WP pros will chime in with more info. I will tell you it has some really nice extra stout treble hooks. I have only fished the one I have a few times before going back to my frog. I have no doubt it will get strikes. I actually had a very small bass, seriously the same size as the WP I was using try and eat it. But no fish of any size has attempted to hit mine in the brief time I have thrown it. Should be fun when I fish it and get hit.
  13. I have been charging mine with the cover on and off with the compartment closed for about a year with no issues.
  14. All my standard wire or heavier wire hooks I have my drag set pretty tight. Once the hookset is done I flick the wheel a few rounds back unless I'm on braid with a frog or something similar. Those heavy heavy cases its full drag like flipping/pitching. All my crankin rods using trebels not so much roughly 3/4 of the drag is on probably. I don't take it to a science, I just use what feels good to me based on the line I am using and how strong the drag is on a particular reel.
  15. He sells skirts and he sells just the naked jigs. Here is the page http://siebertoutdoors.com/Tackle-Making_c32.htm Personally I get the wire tied completed jigs unless I am adding rattles. They have been holding up extremely well and I have thrown them everywhere. That wire tie Mike does is outstanding at holding the skirts. Just the fact I don't have to touch them before fishing makes it worth the few cents extra to me.
  16. Sometimes I feel like there are posters here who would use solid gold bricks as the sole material they'd employ in rebuilding society after an extinction level event. It swings both ways around here. Some feel they want to spend way more than necessary as they feel it is a part of the fun to them from what I gather. I could care less if someone bought a Koenigsegg to drive to work or a Ford truck. Many people chose to do it their way no matter how ludicrous it may seem to others. To me I enjoy the fishing and catching the fish somewhat consistently. Not dumping all my spare cash off at the tackle shop. Big Game offers a readily available proven product that doesn't waste money so I use it.
  17. I am very close if not the same. Texas Rigged worm is guaranteed A Dredge Brush Jig from http://siebertoutdoors.com Either a Peppers Custom Spinnerbait or a Crankbait rod with a Mann's Baby 1-Minus or a rattling KVD 1.5
  18. Although they work well from what I read I refuse to pay $10 to cut my line. I have a razor knife I use and a pair of snap ring pliers I got a while back for like $4.99 that has cutters in them. They both work well.
  19. I actually like the Coastal Brown color and apparently the fish do too as I get plenty of bites. But yeah the 12# is on both my crankbait rods and 15# on a few other rods. That guy does land some serious fish and I noticed he always uses that same 17# Stren. I have used Original Stren as well and it works fine too.
  20. ^^^ This Mike is about as cheap as I have found for a jig that has any quality. The price he sells them for along with the quality components and the obvious deliberate care taken when making them make Mike's a very hard value to beat. Sure you can find cheaper jigs and catch fish with them but you also get what you pay for. The materials are subpar especially the hooks not being near the quality. As for fishing the rivers I have nothing to offer as a suggestion I don't fish rivers. But lots of reeds, weed flats, and sand I have fished plenty and the Dredge Brush Jig has worked well for all around use.
  21. Similar here. Black or white bottom non popping version are my colors. I use frogs more for the vegetation and less in open water except for edges of vegetation. I was doing OK with the Lunker version in Croaker color I had. But a leg got bit off last time out and after emailing Lunker I find that you can't get replacement legs. I did just get, as a gift, a River2sea Dahlberg Diver Frog. I took it out once so far and fished it just a little bit. Its different, not so sure its my cup of tea but it might be a good change one day.
  22. Just skimming through all the responses I didn't see anyone mention that crankbait rods are what keep a crankbait fish hooked. This is why the crankbait rod is quite a bit different action than most any other bass rods. A sweeping hookset is all that is necessary as the finer points of the smaller hooks generally don't need a swinging for the fence set. But what they do need is constant but forgiving pressure. I prefer mono line on mine as its been more than up to the task. I'm sure braid with a leader if that is what you prefer will give you more sensitivity and will work as long as the rod has that crankbait build in it.
  23. That is how they are described exactly on Berkeley's website.
  24. Most likely it's a brand variance. Almost all brands, makes, and models have different tendencies. This is why you hear some speak of this brand or that brand leaning one way or another as that is how that particular line of rods was designed based on whoever was behind the design. If they lean heavy most of their rods will probably lean heavy and vise verse. Also the only Lightning Rod Shock listed as Moderate Fast on Berkley site is the MODEL # SHC661M .
  25. Other than the finish not doing so good they produce quite well. I haven't fished the 3 I bought in a while as I got four of the H2O Suspending baits along with other lures like 5 KVD 1.5 rattling squarebills, and a couple new Bomber Square A's. Along with some other new soft plastics just has be having to pick and choose what toys to play with.
