  1. Honey Hole is a good show. Bill Wilcox is a good host and good stick. He does fish a new lake every week and one day to shoot. Some shows he catches dinks, but you feel better about yourself, lol. The episodes are on YouTube and the channel is All Outdoors Media, I think.
  2. I would try and contact Denny through BASS or maybe he has a web site. I would think a request as unique as this would get his attention and he would be glad to help.
  3. These are good examples. Where I live is not bad. Cookeville, Tn is an hour and half from Chickamauga, four hours from Guntersville, and three hours from Kentucky Lake. Three famous Tn river impoundments are within a reasonable drive. Old Hickory and Percy Priest are an hour away and three other Cumberland River lakes are very close. Dale Hollow has produced around 12 of the biggest 25 smallmouth on record while Center Hill and Cordell are consistently above average lakes that can produce eight pound and larger fish. Really, If you live anywhere in the mid south, Bass fishing opportunities and variety abound.
  4. Welcome to the forums!
  5. Thanks small jaw. Only been chasing bass for a year and so far just have a Duckett Ghost, Shimano Crucial, and a couple of inexpensive Wright and Mcgill rods. I absolutely love the Crucial and the Ghost. I wanna try some different brands and this rod just looks fantastic. Your info was very helpful.
  6. Was looking at different bass rods and found this rod and thought it was one of the better looking rods I have seen. The Winn grips set it off. Anyone have one of these and what is your opinion?
  7. If I were going to Knoxville area I would have to drive to Dayton to fish chickamauga. I would hit a marina and ask about some good bank access from the locals. Dayton boat dock is owned by FLW pro Micheal Neal. It is known as a ledge lake but there are docks and fish to be had shallow as well. It is a fickle lake but you have a decent chance of catching some six pound plus fish there. Another thing is go to a local tackle store and ask around. Folks there will be glad to help, as u know they love bass fishing in that area. Good luck!
  8. I think this says it well.
  9. I saw a Mark Zona show on Great Lakes smallmouth and he spoke about the fact that many anglers believed that released smallmouth "spook" the school and he was apt to believe them. He was fishing with Van Dam or maybe the CEO of Strike King, and they were keeping their smallmouth until they moved locations.
  10. At Outdoor Junction in Cookeville, Tennessee. Great little store with an awesome rod selection. I think I paid 109 for my Med Heavy 7 2, but he had several at 99. The guy over the fishing department is Rick if you wanna call them. Just google outdoor junction in cookeville. They would probably ship the od to you as well, not sure.
  11. Shimano has been in the fishing business a long time and you don't make it that long without being quality.
  12. I looked hard at them but found a Shimano Crucial for 99 bucks with limited lifetime warranty so I went that route. I don't think he would endorse, and especially fish, with a rod he didn't like. The guy is famous for attention to detail. If he goes through 100 hooks and picks five to use, then he is not gonna put up with a rod that is not perfect for him. One huge factor for me is that he left Megabass for Enigma, and had one of the best years ever. I need a couple more rods to complete my arsenal and I think the Enigma is gonna be one of them. If the color scheme was better I think these rods would be flying off the shelves.
  13. Most challenging is finding fish. Sometimes it is even choosing the right place to fish. I have zeroed or caught very little at times while friends have done well at other lakes using similar techniques. Outside of catching a good fish, the most exciting for me is the preparation for a day of fishing. Buying a new bait or two to try, making a plan and rigging your rods, getting boat ready, the coffee at four thirty in the morning, and the quiet and scenic drive to the lake. Can't wait for the morning!
  14. The place on my list would be Ray Scott's lakes near Montgomery Alabama. It is pricey but I have read nothing but great reviews. Roland Martin called The Presidents Lake the best lake in America. Rick Clunn caught his PB there of 14 lbs. They also have a lake stocked with only female bass so they can manage numbers for maximum growth. I would think the weather would be fairly warm that far south in December. According to reviews, you will definitely catch bass. The chance of catching some over five pounds will also be pretty good. Not to mention that the food is chef prepared and the lodging looks first class. I am definitely saving for a trip.
  15. I just have one square bill and love it. Plan to buy more Jackall baits.
  16. I just started bass fishing seriously this summer. Here in Tennessee I should be able to continue fishing through December before it gets crazy cold. Even then, I should be able to squeeze in a few days in Jan and Feb. I know one thing. I have never looked forward to a spring more than this one since I was a youngster crazy about baseball. Can't wait for the spring frenzy!
  17. Know a guy who fishes lots of tournaments and he raved about his Falcon when I ask him about his favorite rods. He also owns rods from GLoomis, St Croix, AllPro, and Shimano- so I trust he knows a good rod.
  18. According to Bassmaster article, they are keeping location secret because they are concerned for the fish having too much pressure. They are only revealing it was a northern california reservoir. Surely the location has to be named in the documentation for the record? I would think that info would be public if you wanted to know. Anyway, Newman had hooked up with an eight pounder and while he was dealing withhisfish Bailey threw to same spot and hookedthe 11.4. The cool thing is their friend Shea McIntee filmed it all for his show Stoked on Fishing. It will air in Feb.
  19. I like the red label and I have a friend who swears by Invis-x. However, I recently purchased some Stren flourocarbon and it seems to have less coil ups than Seagaur and is slightly less expensive. I haven't fished it long enough to judge it completely, but so far I really like it.
  20. Bass Pro in Nashville seems to do more business in hunting than fishing. They have as good a bait selection as you can ask for, but their rod and reel selection is below average to me. In fact, my local tackle store has a much better rod and reel selection. As far as pricing, I see little difference between them, Wal Mart, or my local store- Outdoor Junction. My local place is a bit higher on accessories, but as far as crank baits, plastics, terminal tackle, and rods, they are very competitive with the big boys. In addition, they have staff with knowledge of fishing and can answer questions, which is huge for me.
  21. It happened about sixty miles from where I live. I will try and keep up with it and post any new info. Like you, I am angered as well as saddened by this senseless cowardly act.
  22. If I lived in south Texas I would definitely try and fish through the winter. Living in Tennessee and it being my first year of boat fishing for bass, I plan to be on the lake plenty during the winter. I may not be on the water at daylight, or when temps are below freezing, but if we are gonna get to 40 degrees I plan on fishing. I won't run the lake like in the summer though. I will try to use ramps close to the areas I want to fish and cut down on the need to run full throttle. I hope you land a couple of big toads this winter!
  23. Im thinking number seven. Lol. Seriously I think I would go with three. He believed his buddy was in danger and he wasn't gonna take the time to find out what he was fleeing. The distance he leapt seems to me to indicate it was fear induced. It could have been hunger but I have never seen panfish that aggresive.
  24. Peacock bassin in Amazon would be awesome. Saw the video of Casey Ashleys trip after the Classic and it was great. They went to some remote pockets of the river and caught some nice fish
  25. Great story. I will defnitely consider St Croix because of this. It is a bit disappointing that companies like St Croix are a rarity, and not the norm, in business these days.
