  1. I need to find and get me a "Ned". I could have tried it yesterday at Melvern. I didn't get so much as a bite. I probably don't have the lures that many of you do. Mine are some older lures/baits. I tried about everything except some spinners. Tried deep, as my locator was showing them around 20 ft and deeper, and a little in shallows. However I will say I didn't venture back to the western part of the lake. While fishing in shallow water (around 5-7 ft ), had a fair sized Carp clear the water just 3 ft off the side of the boat. Just the quick glimpse I got, he looked to be around 10-15 lbs. Waaaay back when I was a teenager, a buddy of mine and I would ride our bicycles to the river and fish. When the Drum and Cats weren't biting, would fish for Carp. We also made up dough-balls (carp) for this reason. We would then haul out some huge Carp. We started marking them just to see if we were catching the same one(s) over and over. It turned out I had landed a 25 lb Carp, the same one twice. Anyway back to the original story... I didn't stay that long, only about 3 hrs. The play-time boaters, jetskiers, skiers were rather heavy. They kept coming real close to my boat. If I had not been hanging on, I would have thrown over-board with one such wave. Really started p***ing me off. So I decided enough of this crap, the lake is theirs...
  2. Thank you all for the warm welcomes. Bluebasser I'll be sure to check out the Kansas fishing reports, thanks!
  3. Thanks Darren and Whitwolf.
  4. As the title states, I'm a lifelong resident of Kansas, more specific SE Kansas. I just stumbled upon this forum, and after reading a few posts decided I should join. I'm not new to fishin' though. I've been fishing since I was about 6 yrs old. I'm well over the proverbial hump. My dad taught me how to fish for catfish, using stink bait, shad sides, beef melt and blood. Learned the proper way to bridge fish for them, as well as sitting on a river bank well into the night. I dropped fishing for a while, since life got in the way. However I just picked up a used bassboat so I can get back into the habit/hobby. I had step-dad for a short while, and he taught me how to fish for bass, walleye, and crappie. I've learned to really like fishing for large-mouth bass. Well was going to put the boat in this weekend at Melvern, however an aquaintence warned about all the big logs and crap floating around, and said he wouldn't put his boat back in until it settles down. I also have Coffey Co Lake (Wolf Creek), John Redmond, and Pamona closeby. Last report at John Redmond, boat ramp closed, and I believe it. Water is still everywhere. So was going to launch at Coffey Co lake, but our dear Ms Daisy (pup) got sick, and had to take her to the vet. Was not going to leave her home alone, so cancelled that. Well I think the lake has a very low wind restriction anyway. Maybe tomorrow. I only have weekends, since I'm a truck driver, and am gone M-F. I love the wealth of info on these forums, and will be "trolling" them to make myself smarter..
