I would say yes on the damage, it sounds like you are tightening the knot to soon, slow down and get the loops as close the the eye before cinching down.

10 or 15 will work just fine, you could even go lower if you wanted to. We use 4lb braid ice fishing and pull out large trout and bass without problems... I've also never had a problem with braid to leader knot, FG knot is the best I have used.

Fiberglass (depending on which class of fiberglass is used) has a moderate action also, its softer and will flex easy which helps keep fish pinned IMO, it also is pretty sensitive, glass rods have improved a lot compared to 10 years ago. The bend of the rod is butter smooth and I don't believe you can get that with graphite. Its also super tough, you can see how it bends in this video...

Glass if my preferred rod for crankbaits and St Croix makes a awesome glass rod. I have the Legend Tournament Glass and its the best crankbait rod I have used.

I would take the Conquest 842. But out of what you have listed the 852 would do all those fine. What weight will you be using for the ned rigs? I've used my Conquest 842s for ned rigs and it worked fine with 1/8oz, it loads up better when casting vs the 852. I now use the Megabass Flyssa for all my ned rigs.

I run 10lb powerpro V2 .006" and sunline Xplasma 16lb .0082" on two of my Metanium's, never have had any dig in problems. The thing is most of diameters posted on braided line are wrong, they are actually thicker then what they say. The Sunline 16lb actually feels thinner then the 10 Powerpro.

I use glass for crankbaits, but you can use them for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and topwater if you like... I use a St-Croix Legend Tournament Glass rod and its very light and sensitive for being glass, no its not as light or as sensitive as graphite but its got that butter smooth bend when using cranks that I love

I like 1000 for ice fishing, but you can use a 1000 for bass without any problems. I prefer 2500 shimano and 3000 daiwa.

My dad got me into fishing at around 10 I think, we fished rivers the most at first targeting trout with panther martins, after a few years he purchased a boat for trolling, are gear was mostly ugly sticks and mitchell 300's. Now he uses a Fenwich HMG with a Daiwa capricorn spinning reel that he has had for maybe 14 years now. He is the best man I know.

I use backing and braid with leader, once the braid wears out a bit I just reverse it or spool it onto another reel.

Everyone of my rods has braid to flourocarbon leaders, I use Seaguar invisX the most using a FG knot.. Never have had a problem....knock on wood

I have a Kistler Helium Medium light 7' that is amazingly sensitive, the guides are okay but I don't care for the reel seat. This is what I would get for Dropshot. Also take a look at the Megabass Orochi XX whipsnake, that is a awesome rod for the price.
