  1. My name means "ugly face" in French.
  2. I think bass feed on anything they can physically eat given the forage in the body of water. In the spring there tends to be more forage/baitfish...but they are opportunistic and take what meals they can get. If i have the wrong understanding folks, please correct.
  3. As someone who often fishes out of the back of the boat: the boat owner makes the rules. Ive never had any need to cast forward of the middle of the boat because I dont want to take the same angles to spots as the front boater is taking anyway.
  4. I hear you have to let the fish eat it for a second before setting the hook on the larger worms. I heard it explained, if you feel the bite, you say to your self "there he is" or "there is a fish" and by the time youre done saying it, reel down and set the hook. Pausing that little extra bit is what is needed i guess.
  5. Im pretty sure you can catch spots and smallies in the western Tennessee River impoundments... Wilson and Wheeler for sure.
  6. It takes practice. Welcome to the forum!
  7. I really dig worms, and if its a tough day, they will get the job done more times than not. I was really into Senko's in particular, but found that they are not very durable. I have recently switched to the Strike King KVD Ocho. I really dig it. Its much more durable and I think it catches more fish. Im not entirely sure if the caffeine scent has anything to do with it, but I really dig them.
  8. I had this happen fairly recently. My friend was in the front of the boat just crushing fish on a drop shot. So I switched over and couldnt catch them. He gave me the same plastic, hook, sinker, and leader material to try to put me on fish. I still couldnt catch one to save my life, even from the front of the boat, and he was still crushing them. It was actually really amazing to see how maybe just one little difference in our setups, maybe his hook was 1/2inch higher than mine, was causing such a difference.
  9. It varies depending on the club but generally: 1. No. You dont have to fish every tournament if you dont care about where you are in the club point standings. 2. Yes. When inquiring about the club tell them that you are new or inexperienced and let them know that your main priority is to learn from the other guys in the club. If that club isnt about helping or teaching folks, then it may not be the best fit for you. 3. The club that I am in does a booth at a couple fishing events in the local area. We mostly concentrate on fishing though. 4. I am a co-angler as well and all I ever need to bring is my own gear i plan to fish with. My lifejacket. And I generally kick in $20-$30 for gas money to the boater. I generally offer to bring drinks or whatever, but i have always been denied. You should also fill out your profile so we can see where you live. This can also help you connect with locals in your area that may be in clubs that dont heavily advertise. Good luck finding a club. Its a lot of fun.
  10. I was trout fishing in SW Virginia a few years ago, and I had one foot up on a rock slightly higher than the water level and one foot down in the fast moving water. I looked down to see this snake (unk type) just slithering down stream in between my legs. It didnt pay me any mind, but it was unsettling to say the least.
  11. Welcome!
  12. Fished a tournament on saturday out of Mink Creek. Water was very clear and the bite was on. Big sack was 24lb 6oz, with big fish coming in at just over 6lbs.
  13. You should contact Fredrick's Outdoors, or some of the marina's on Wheeler. You may be able to rent a boat, or maybe they have some boats with their logo on them that they could loan you to fish in this fairly high profile tournament. They could get some free publicity and you get a boat. I have no idea if they would do this, but its worth a shot.
  14. I got pretty upset when I shut my 13hour old new rod in the tailgate of my truck.
  15. If you actually hook the fish i couldnt imagine it hitting it again. I would move on. They say that fish have about a 15min memory, so in theory, it could bite again in 15min. But i would move on.
