  1. haha. Thanks for spotting that. Title updated.
  2. Hi all, I posted a similar topic about the Shimano Stella. I bought two C3000XG's and I would say no. They are perfect in every way but are they worth double that of a Daiwa Certate, I don't think so. Let's hope they are like fine wine and appreciate on me in time. I appreciate that Baitcasting is a different and so not wanting to make the same mistake, is the Shimano Calais DC worth the money or is there something that equals it for $300 ? That's in advance for your help. Matthew
  3. I just bought two Stella C3000XG's and whilst I don't have a lot of time on the water with them, are they worth double that of the Daiwa Certate 2510pe-h, I am saying no. Everything has been designed well on the Stella, the smallest detail has been discovered but when it is on the rod, the performance isn't that giant leap I was expecting
  4. Hi all, Being a newbie to fishing, in not sure of the subtle differences between Shakey, Jig Rig or Texas Rig. Any advice as to when you should fish one over the other would be appreciated. Regards Matthew
  5. I fell for the Tackle Tour review where their free spool tests went from 8 seconds of spin on our stock Chronarch 201E7 to 16 seconds
  6. It is, I fish a clear, pretty weed and other nasties free lake so I don't need anything too heavy so I have stuck with spinning gear but for motion baits, I thought I would give casting gear a try
  7. Further to the above, just got an EVERGREEN INSPIRARE TKIC-610MR Super Cougar with a Shimano Aldebaran 51. Hedgehog AIR 3x10x4 SET for Shimano Bearings too.
  8. I've just got some so will give it a go today
  9. Thanks Frank, I am going to give the seemingly huge (6 & 1/2') Zoom Trick worm a go today. One last question, is there any other purpose to the bullet weight when Texas rigging other than to help with casting distance ?
  10. Based on my limited experience, I would say Rod but the new Daiwa Certate I replaced the Shimano Stradic CI4+ on an Avid 7ft MF transformed it. Turned it from an uneasy feeling to a reel pleasure, haha 'reel'. I am coming to turns that there are performance differences the more you pay in either Rod and reel
  11. Not sure about the Stella, I will get one eventually but the Daiwa Certate is a step up from the Stradic CI4+. I will need to get a Shimano Twin Power before I decide what is the best reel for under $300
  12. Thanks. That makes perfect sense. So actually, shooter is a good choice for a Fluro leader to to its abrasion resistance properties while sniper is a bit more manageable so works when used straight. I'm glad I asked before I put shooter on a reel
  13. I get abrasion resistance as a plus but please indulge me and explain why weary is an advantage.
  14. This seems to be a hot topic, some guys like me are using expensive shooter while others don't see the point in paying it for a leader. I couldn't tell you which way to go but I'm very interested to learn more about each perspective. Don't be shy, chip in and let me know. After all, it will help me become a better fisherman
  15. I have 4 St Croix Avids, 2 Megabass and 1 NRX rods, 4 Shimano CI4+ and a Daiwa Certate reels. I have been fishing less than a month. Are you the guy that tried to sell me a used Megabass Rod And had a hissy fit when I suggested your price was too high ? For the records, I got the same Rod new for $125 cheaper delivered.
  16. As a Fluro leader. Sunline is supposed to be the best of the best and if you use a braid with a Fluro leader, why not use the best of the best
  17. I hear the word on the street is that the Evergreen Opus-1 despite its age still outshines even the newest Stella model. Does anyone have any experi nice with this spinning reel to back up these outlandish claims
  18. Hi all, As per the subject, which do you prefer between Sunline Shooter and Sniper? Let me know why as that helps me learn. Cheers Matthew
  19. Weightless wacky style with an 'o' rig. I went through 5 in an hour hooking directly then switched to the 'o' ring and I have used the same one for a while now
  20. KVD Dream Shot or strike king 3x elaztech finesse worm if you want a great floating bait
  21. I was using size 1 but found 1/0 to be optimum for hooking fish and keeping them on. A KVD Dream Shot works nicely
  22. Roboworm 4.5" straight tail. They come in lots of colors and are a good size to help set the hook even when using smaller sized hooks
  23. Coming from course fishing in the UK, a 3/0 is huge. Over the pond, you would use a size 16 on 4lb line to catch fish small to med Large Mouth Bass sized fish. I found yesterday when using a size 1 that it was too small so I'm quickly becoming accustomed to 3/0 being the norm.
