  1. I got to demo a 14 pa. You lucky dog!! It was awesome and stable I was amazed. I was standing up throwing deep cranks and never felt nervous. I’m waiting for the right time to get one I had a blast enjoy!!
  2. Not that I can easily pass off, but she’s supposed to warm us up into the mid 60s here today.
  3. No worries the no keep is from game and fish due to high pesticides in the fish. But I have heard it’s gotten really good lake filled back up about 3 years ago and has really turned on. The Butte is coming back slowly and we have caught some nice fish in our club. As for the northern lakes not much info on them for you, I might be fishing one later this year though
  4. Your welcome man, also another lake I would throw on my radar is Brantley. Water warms much sooner there and the past 3-4 years they have been catching good bass there. Only thing is you can’t keep them. That lake is on the east side of the state between artesia and Carlsbad.
  5. E.b. Is my home lake. Nmg&f has been doing some stockings the past couple years. The largemouth fishing is getting better and the smallmouth fishing is decent. Personally caught a 4.5 lb smallie last summer. March sh can be hit or miss given the strong cold fronts that time of year really warm prefrontal days fallowed by a decent warm day with a little wind the 2-5 days of 35 mph+, then bluebird and cold. Can be really tough if you can’t pick the better days to be out. April can be lights out if we have gotten out of the wind pattern and have more stable weather. Feel free to pm me if you want more info.
  6. I have thrown both. Early in the year rattling works great but for me by mid-late summer and fall a silent produces better for me. Seems weird but at that time I’ll have rising water, less vis, and pressure on my home water but switching to the silent bait produces much better.
  7. @Smbass19 yes I try and bang it off the rocks as much as possible, I’ve broken the lips in some. But if I loose contact where it drops off I’ll fish it erratically with stops and jerks thrown in. But usually when I loose that contact there is a fish waiting at that drop to eat
  8. I’ve had success with the KVD 1.0, 1.5, & 2.0. I have also had good success with the “freak” from luck-e-strike, series 1&2 tasty Shad and pale brown craw. I work the parallel to main lake shores, and every possible angle over points. I do real well with them prespawn and again in the fall. Another bait not a squarebill though is the KVD Flatside crank. That has produced in the summer-late fall for me. My lake is almost all rock especially late in the year as they draw it down for irrigation so cover is limited. Hope this helps.
  9. In again this year fun to have a group of people to battle with, people at work look at me like I’m crazy when I try to explain this and that’s from fantasy football guys
  10. I believe my boater used g juice in his live well. Again @J Francho explained better then I could how they worked. His fish looked just fine when weighed in.
  11. I read on another forum that they speared a wave, knocking the co angler out. Then the boater tried to turn back to get him and when he did it swamped the boat.. couldn’t restart the motor and tried to use the trolling motor but then he to was knocked over board. Some how he manage to tie himself to the trolling motor. This is just second hand info from another forum... don’t want to call it the truth though. sad day for fishing in general. I have fished one extremely rough day in a tourney out of a 18’ as a co. It scared the ***** out of me. I learned from that day on if I’m not good with the conditions I’ll donate my money to the pot and go to work, I have enough uncontrolled risk related with my job I don’t need to increase it with something I do for fun. Prayers and thoughts for the co anglers family as this will be a tough time moving forward, and prayers to the boater I can only imagine what he must be dealing with god bless both and their family’s.
  12. A boater I fished with was using something called a glory bag or money bag. Basically it was mesh with Velcro and you put the fish in it. They worked excellent for him. I believe our federation has them signed up as a sponsor. His fish were fine at weigh in too.
  13. Just watched deepwater horizon. Really good movie.
  14. Another thing is it is a technique that you don’t have to impart much action to. Large rod, weight, and lb test line can kill that action. I do believe there is a time when fish are on beds that pitching a dropshot on baitcasting equipment is ideal. Outside of that I stay with my spinning set up.
  15. @jason41987 I know you want to plan on eating elk that you hunt a kill. I’m out west and just wondering where your moving that you’ll be able to get an elk tag each year? If you also plan on being in country like that I would be looking to eat a lot of rainbow/brown/Brooke trout. I feel that nothing beats fresh trout. Plenty of places out west here where you could make that happen.
  16. @DINK WHISPERER that’s a good idea, or maybe there is a decent kayak out there in your price range to get him back on the water.. not sure maybe somebody will chime in with one
  17. Give them a call I’m pretty sure they will help you through the steps to get it corrected. They want your business
  18. Thanks for the input but I’m not wanting such a long rod. I understand the trade offs with this but I’m much more comfortable with a shorter rod for this technique
  19. @Dorado I fish it nose hooked on an owner mosquito hook, or I will thread it on to a roboworm rebarb hook so that the hook point comes out of the back about the mid point. In the spring around the spawn I fish it on a short leader 8-14” in the summer I will mess with length till I get a bite. I will fish it down or up a point, pitch to isolated rock or wood anything I think is holding fish. I don’t video game fish when I ds so some people would say use a Carolina rig but my waters have way to much rock for that. Line is 10lb spiderwire to 10lb yozuri hybrid and I’m using the abu Ike series ds rod. hope this helps. if I can ask what are your water temps, clarity, and species you are fishing for, and what part of the country are you in?
  20. Yamamoto shad shaped worm or a luck-e-strike freak series 1. Those two baits are money from late feb to dec for me. But if I’m trying to get a big bit 4 or 5 in senko green pumpkin magic t-rigged or wacky or o a flick shake.
  21. I have two bass pro original pro qualifiers. They weigh a little more than some other reals but have held up excellent for me. They used to sell for right around 100. Might be able to find them cheaper on eBay now. I can’t really chime in on a rod to keep you under two bills though I’ve payed around just that for my rods. Look at tw the have a bunch of rods on sell and think you might even get free shipping on it right now too. Good luck, and tight lines.
  22. What I’ve seen here is pretty much inline with @Turkey sandwich. I have never found them in the backs of long creeks spawning. Mostly in small cuts or even on the main lake where it is sheltered. From 15-3’ deep. If fish a reservoir that’s about 90’ deep, with clear water in the spring.
  23. @Angry JohnSo those look real interesting. How much do they dampen or increase sensitivity? Should I look at a full grip or a split? I do fish in cold weather so warming up is nice. How are they in extreme heat (100-110)?
  24. Thanks for the input and info much appreciated
  25. So I’m looking at building my second rod. I’m looking to build on the 6’8” St. Croix 5X68MHF S.C.-V blank. First question is is there a benifit for a spilt grip on a rod like this or is it for weight reduction. second I would like a reel seat that leaves the blank exposed, any recommendations on what to look at??
