  1. Beautiful winter fish, I’d guess in the 3-4lb range. Nice fish no matter what ??
  2. @A-Jay and @12poundbass thanks for posting this. I know I’m a long ways west from a-jay and not to sure about 12lb but I’m saving this and will continue to read. As I work through it I might have some questions that deal with a highland reservoir. Thanks again guys
  3. Some good ideas posted above. I would select 1-2 techniques dependent upon the time of year and focus on those. That way your not slinging a topwater when a jerkbait would be more effective.
  4. Both guys seem to be spot on with it. Like @Bluebasser86 stated talk with your local game and fish Officer. Those guys want to educate rather than write tickets.
  5. I’m going to say you will be on the water no later than April 2nd, El Niño and all this winter. Should be “warmer than average” for you all. But if you wanna experience some early season fishing your welcome to pay NM a visit!!! I’ll be wetting a line all winter
  6. Besides the soft plastics I’d throw a spinner bait around slow rolling it and a square bill to. I’m always quick to start with those then slow down if needed. If there is decent flow coming in I would try around those areas, try to find the drop off and a good ambush spot.
  7. Plastics: Yamamoto and strike king lil bps cranks: strike king topwater: river2sea and rebel
  8. Cold water here would be around 42. So deff not cold as our friends from the north.
  9. Best crank I have had success with in cold water is lucky strike freak. Not a flat sided bait by any means but has produced. The only flat I have is the KVD 1.5, and it has produced better in the summer go figure.
  10. What about the Guadalupe bass?
  11. When I was in high school I somehow managed to catch a mallard on a in-line spinner. The darn thing tried to fly off. Luckily I was able to get it to shore unhook it and the mallard flew off.
  12. My dream would be a multi day saltwater trip. To Australia fishing for marlin and whatever else is biting. I’ve been lucky to fish across the us on family trips and during work. So I want to do something exotic. My wife and I are trying to plan a 10 year anniversary to South America on the coast packed with snook, tarpon, red fish and whatever else may give the line a tug.
  13. My best largemouth so far on a drop shot is close to 4lbs. I don’t think up sizing the bait to a 10 in worm would buy you larger bites. I think it’s boiled down to find the right size of fish your targeting and then presenting it to them the way they want it. I’ve watched other guys catch larger fish with 3-4in baits. Just got to get it in front of the right one.
  14. With the trade tariffs and such going on is the price of these weights increasing specifically with om fishing? Just wondering trying to hold out till the new year before I look to order.
  15. Welcome to a fellow SW angler, some time you’ll have to get Dow to Patagonia lake and let us now how they are biting down there
  16. Fishin a crankbait along a bluff wall, all of a sudden my rod loaded up, the weight was more than I’ve ever felt then it just snapped. A couple of mins later my crank floated up with a large portion of a fin on it. Still have no clue what hit me that day.
  17. I know through work we in the Southwest az/nm/SoCal are looking at a greater than average chance for an El Niño year, chances of more precip while having a more mild winter. That’s just a chance though. The tree kills in Cali can be associated with drought/insect infestation/ and lack of natural fire return intervals.
  18. Congrats on the new pb! Beautiful fish
  19. I remember being on the st lawarance as a kid in high school. I was up there in late May early June. I could not believe how clear the water was. Could see bottom in around 20’. My home lake here you can see bottom in around 10-15’ in March-April until our spring winds start. cool photo none the less.
  20. I enjoy fishing in the winter as well. It’s usually slower than the summer for me, but we are pretty far south in the southwest and get a lot of migratory birds so if the fishing sucks there is plenty of wildlife to watch with little for disturbance
  21. I would love to see this design, I’ve heard about it from guys in AZ, just hav never seen one.
  22. I will fish a deep diving square bill slow in the winter, few bites but they have been the better largemouth I’ve caught. Also I tend to go straight to the dropshot and use gulp minnows and a Shad shaped worm from Yamamoto.
  23. Dredger here as well, 22’ 10lb yozuri hybred on a 7’6” graphite rod, 6.4:1 reel. The setup will launch them a country mile for me.
  24. If you can walk those points out to the end. That should put you close to deeper water. I think Rick clun said points point out the fish..
