  1. Some newer plastic cranks have glitter in their color schemes with or without holographic prizm finishes..with glitter i kinda lean towards less is more...
  2. Any color you can imagine will catch fish, but will it catch fish on a regular basis or at times when another bait will not work. Id say any sparkly or flashy color will catch fish..experiment and see. Every color has its time and place and figuring that out is the fun for me..
  3. You heard correct, lews are very mice reels IMO. Get a bb1 or bb2 inshore for the same price or ten more than the two team lews you mentioned. You said you dont like the inshore reels because of weight? Ones two ounces more and onesa little o er an ounce more, to me that would be pretty hard to notice such a slight weight difference..remember too that even with a little heavier reel that matched with the right rod makes any reel feel lighter, i never let weight determine what reel i buy, for me rod and reel balance is most important...most places if you take your rod with you will let you mount reels on it so you can see how they feel together..
  4. If mot already mentioned those are chinese made baits off ebay, you can get deals like 36 cranks for 19 bucks (an example cant remember prices but they were crazy cheap) but if 10 of them ran true you would be lucky. The problem aint so much the eye you tie to its the molds they use im guessing because i tried and tried to get some to run true by bending the eye but there was no adjustment by bending tjem that would make them run true..cheap junk, at least the ones i bought. The one good thing that came out of the deal for me was each bait had the hook protectors on each treble wich i like because grabbing a crank and 17 of them come out along with the one i want sucks ha ha ha
  5. X2 on the sharpie. If you ever try to put clear gloss on them to keep the colors it will only make it bleed, but you can do a detail at a time and just one very quick blast of clear and it will bleed alot less and will give some colors a holographic look. I learned from lots and lots of trial and error to get that look so i dont recommend it because its not easy and you will mess ur bait up unless you clean it off wich is a pain in the dairy air...
  6. Theres other brands of senko style worms that are more durable but not as supple so they have a little different action and work verg well but sometimes the fish want a true "senko" action and sometimes not...i keep several different brands and uss whatever works that day...
  7. Never heard of them...
  8. Way i see it you can do it to show the fish better or to make a fish look bigger. The one who do the latter and hide their hands to make it look bigger and brag should realize that yeah ur hands arent showing but you can see individual scales etc... on the fish. Idc either way....
  9. Lilly pads, weeds and grass. Theres also two siltation dams about 75 yds south of the bridge on the far north end, one on the west bank going east and one o, the east bank going west and they both meet in the middle but theyre not aligned so water and a boat can get through. Theyre basicly very narrow rock levees with the tops just below the surface at normal pool, shallow as heck up there but tons of cover..
  10. The bug has 4 flappers and the z has two. If i remember right the structure bug is a little softer and a lil more durable...
  11. Thanks guys, it is a zoom product. I lo e the action from them on chatterbaits, way better than the rage tail it came with..
  12. I like to fish the road with cranks or lipess cranks...
  13. Nice and nice!!! Think i got mine about 82 so i was about 7.. grandpa took me to a sporting goods store and i remember seeing that yellow rod with a eagle on it and it was all over but crying ha ha ha.
  14. In shallow water 2-5ft deep im going weightless in anything under 15mph wind, the tubes i fish are very very thick/dense and heavy for a tube, a guy back home used to pour them for himself and a guide service to fish smallmouths and gave me a bunch of them, but run of the mill tubes i would go weightless whenever possible but usually 1/8 to 3/8 depending on wind and depth. I like grape, white, greens and browns and once in a while fire tiger...
  15. I love hair jigs for smallies..
  16. I modify lots of my baits usually by adding some different color/colors but ive added eyes to spinnerbait blades, put blades on any lure that you can probably think of. Ive took sandpaper and scuffed up baits so they are not so shiny and bright(i do this alot).. cant give ya no secret on how to make them catch more except to fish with what you come up with and see what happens, ive found a few of my mods work better than the original for me and some may or may not catch more than the original.
  17. I was fishing a chatterbait the other day and the rage tail that came on it came off and i forgot to bring my bag of trailers so i found two of these on spinnerbaits so i put one on and started catching fish after throwing it with the rage tail all morning with a couple followers but no bites. Well i lost that one after a few fish so now i have only this one left that i cut about a half inch off. The action on this trailer and my chatterbait is crazy and it made the fish attack so i want more but cant remember what kind they are?
  18. Winter- lipless crank Spring- blk/blue jig Summer- lipless crank Fall- lipless crank
  19. Im not trying to argue with you im just saying what our biologist has said many times on a local forum about thermoclines in our waters.. whats dermesal prey??? Does palegic mean schooling or roaming???
  20. I clean mine with a magic eraser and spray gloss clear from a can, ive also stained the cork and clear glossed it. I like the gloss finish because it helps keep little chunks from breaking off...
  21. If youve always used shimanos then why change brands? You know what the shimanos will do for you? The tourney lites are sweet reels though
  22. Its kinda funny to me when i hear "tune the tension and brakes" the only way i could cast when i learned was to have the spool loose enough to wear it would slide side to side 1/8 inch and the brakes all the way off. I still cast with a super loose spool but my brakes i set at 2 or 3, its all in the thumb for me bug thats how i taught myself.. did you look under the spool tension cap and check if the little copper or friction washer wasnt left out at the factory??? All my lews casted great right out of the box..or check the brakes to make sure nothings missing or broke...
  23. Ive bought half my reels on ebay and always found great deals and never had any problems...like said above, check ratings and you should be ok..
  24. The first rod that was all mine and not one of my grandpas was a wright and mcgill #MNBSC-60 6FT casting rod with "mini ferrules" lol! And the reel was an abumatic, cant remember the model i'll pull it out later..lots of good memories come to mind looking at this old girl....
