  1. Skeete reese crankbait rod, and or abu 5600 ultra mag revo winch...think im good..
  2. The old johnson/erude small outboards(under40hp) from 50 something to about 1990 were and still are the best most durable reliable small outboards on the planet!! Your 78 with minimal maintnance and care will probably outlive you. I have a 80 25hp johnson and it is a beast! Been using or around it since it was new and has never let me down..
  3. X2!!! Having the right prop is key to getting the best from your outboard..
  4. Shoulda read this before my post...in 89 they were champions listed in the owners manuals for johnnyrudes...
  5. Johnson/evinrudes used to engineer their outboards around a certain plug(champions back then not sure now) and what i was told by an old omc guy is thats all youw anna run to get the best possible performance but any plug brand will work. I put ngk's in mine once and i lost about 2mph and i had to adjust my idle and sync my throttle just with different plugs...switched em out a month later..
  6. Ive never really fished out of a actual bass boat(lowrider haha) but a few times and i prefer a deep/mod v. Even if i didnt fish multi species and only bass i would still have a v, sits to low for my liking and like said above i liket o fish in the boat not on it thats what rafts are for haha
  7. Do any of you guys keep logs? My grandpa started keeping one in 1968 and when i was about ten i started adding to his when i fished without him wich wasnt often up until he went to the big lake in the sky at wich i took his over... kinda cool to go back and read some old ones he and i wrote.. useful to sometimes..
  8. Crappies here have eggs in them from spring and ive seen them with eggs at thanksgiving with water temps in high30's to low 40's Havent seen any since our stupid(imo) regs since i refuse to keep one thats big enough.
  9. Yep, we fished out of one of the resorts boats(nothing special just a aluminum mod v).. had a guide the first day and we fished alone the second and third day..that was my second time and there is nothing to worry about whatsoever.. beleive me when i tell you the last thing the cartels want is for americans being killed, kidnapped or whatever..they dont want the attention of our goverment at all, were more of a threat than their own.. and yeah i know theirs been americans killed down near the border but rareley happens, your just as safe there as you are fishing at home odds wise... we were gonna try to go this spring but we had a huge job in oklahoma and wont have time this year so summer it is..
  10. X2 green and white works good. I use to use these white worms a long time ago and sometimes they would eat em all day, cant remember the brand and havent seen them in oe r ten years
  11. Was thinkin 8-10XD or rapala DT metal 20 after a quick look..
  12. Knew i wasnt the only one. Grandpa did that on his for as long as i can remember..
  13. Thanks for all the replies guys.. now i ask this, what cranks will go 20+?
  14. Knew i wasnt the only one. Grandpa did that on his for as long as i can remember..
  15. Some walmarts have team kvd combos that were made just for walmart, anywho its a antix an100H reel wich retail is 100 bucks and the rod im not sure if theres a model to match. Pretty good rod, micro guides 6'10" mh fast. Reel was about the nicest i e ever owned till i got some lews recently.. 99 bucks for the combo..
  16. X2 too much grease is bad lime stated above and all that grease will trap/collect any dirt that gets in there..
  17. It does have a wire on the eye it does a 90° back through the bait. DD14 i assume is dives down 14ft? Reason im curious is because i found a pile of christmas trees in 19 ft of water with a bunch of something suspended right above it and twice i tried everything to get a bite and nothing, i mean everything. All my cranks wont go that deep so i pulled my g'pas out and found those two and one i know is a rapala to try on the pile. Heres the rapala, any ideas on model or depth? Looks lime a huge shad rap i think...
  18. Ive caught more fish on them than a senko or any other "senko style" bait...im sure cost is the main factor, fish them more....
  19. Looks bigger, sweet man!!
  20. I e fished el salto in summer wich wasnt the right time, nothing over 9 1/4lbs but we caught so many between that and seven i thought i was dreaming.... Catching numbers will never get old for me,never! I lo e fishing to much for any aspect of it to get old.. I do have 1 lake and one pond with bass over 8lbs and when i fish them bodies i do go after the big ones with certain big bass baits i like but if i end up catching numbers i am in no wAy disappointed, if i get skunked i am not disappointed...
  21. First thing you need to do is get it spooled then pull off 40-50 yds oft he spool and put a lil peice of electrical or masking tape over the line on ir spool, this will prevent backlashes from getting deep in tje spool, when u get one lock, your drag down and put ir thumb on the spool with enough pressure so when you turn the handle its kinda hard to turn but will slide o er your thumb, give a few turns them disengage the reel with ur thumb on the spool and pull the line out until the backlash comes out, if it dont come all the wAy out repeat until it does. I dont use tape anymore but i can get bad backlashes out in less than a minute easily, most in a flash.. this your first baitcaster?
  22. Does the sound get louder the faster you reel? Id be willing to net a new shiny penny if i had one that the drive gear needs some grease. Every reel i buy gwts broke down and cleaned and lubed. Sometimes theyre almost dry and sometimes they have so much grease its comical....pull handle side cover off and have a looksee...
  23. For the life of me i cannot remember who these were made by, two different brands but wich? Trying to find running depth on them also...norman and bomber come to mind but my brain has gas apparently haha
