  1. Next time you go out leave everything at home except jigs and fish them, eventually youll figure it out and have confidence with them. I did that with lots of different baits when i was younger to learn(still learning:-) ) how to fish them....
  2. I hardly ever texas rig anymore, i get way more action from any plastic on a wobble head. By action i mean the bait looks more natural....
  3. If they are biting on other baits then i dont throw them much but always have one tied on a rod, if anything for a search bait and they plain Catch fish in most conditions...first rod i grab to start is my spinner or lipless rod.
  4. About 18 inches is what ive found on any crankbait ive fished. Ive always wished they would put line diameter and the diving depth for cranks on the box, a dt22 dives to 22ft, but on what size line???
  5. Why would the lews cast further than the sx?? I have both reels and one will outcast the other with certain baits and vice versa...
  6. I dont understand why guys would use say 65lb braid for bass fishing, do you use the high lb test so you can get close to the diameter of say 15-20lb mono/fluro because anything lighter will not cast well on baitcasters? And why use any non braid line say higher than 14-17lb test? I understand the stronger line enables you to rocket the fish to the boat very fast but to me that takes the fun out of it when the fish have no chance of getting away, i dont wanna lose any fish but i want there to be a fight. Ive never used anything bigger than 17lb test and never had a problem, i use 12-15 on all my baitcasters wether in open water or around thick cover and very rarely have one break me off or get wrapped around cover and not be able to get it out and in the heavy cover situation i can jerk em out with all my might and dont break the line...tourney guys i get cuz theres money on the line but every day joe using it baffles me... must be like everything else, if the pros use it guys think they have to or theyre not using whats best... all these new lines have situations that make using them more ideal but for me i still prefer mono for most of my fishing, worked for over 30 years just fime for me...
  7. Arent the veritas and skeet rods very close in price? Ive got a skeet jig/worm and s glass cranking rod and love them...
  8. And really more bearings has nothing to do with casting performance, every reel ive seen in the last decade have three bearings that touch the spool shaft. Some guys think upgrading to abec 7 or higher bearings help the reel but you will never get the spool spinning fast enough to notice a difference over say abec 5's or ceramics casting wise IMO.. i beleive performance casting wise is in the reels braking system/systems....do more or better bearings make the reel smoother?? Maybe, but for me its all about putting my bait where i want it and not so much about how it feels reeling...ive got a few round rocket cl's i added cog wheel bearings and worm bearings and i cant tell much difference if any in smoothness reeling wise....
  9. Theres only seven actual bearings on the parts list and no theres not one in the knob so thats 8 if you count the IA. Bushings are not bearings..and like the above poster stated i dont really care about bearing count, if i like the reel idc if theres 2 or 20 bearings i just dont get how all these reels claim to have x amount in them when they dont....some have more than they claim also...
  10. I have a trion and and a lews g2. The lews is very smooth and for the money i thinks its a very good reel.. think i paid 50 bucks at wally world but can be had cheaper on ebay and amazon among other sites and it comes with a extra spool for using braid. I like both reels alot and would recommend either one, i like the red and black colors on the lews, it matches the rod i built perfectly...
  11. Not a rant i just dont get how they say there are x amount of bearings and its not true and nobody seems to care...thats all☺
  12. I went up a level and bought 2 tournament pro speed spools and they are great but i gotta say my favorite is my gen 1 revo sx, just something about that big ol reel i like...
  13. Lol ok then no ice out... idk??? Maybe take a aqua veiw type camera if the waters clear enough and try to determine if the fish are still present.. from what u describe i would say the fish population has declined wether it be the bass or maybe a forage species has increased and they are not as hungry as they have been in the past...
  14. Your not seeing it correctly
  15. April?? Wheres your location? Did you fertilize it right after ice out? Possible you had a big winterkill and you dont have as many fish now??? Theres an explanation for it... either ur just not catching as many as usual or there are not as many fish present...
  16. Just checked my abu promax2 and it claims 8 and has 5 actual bearings plus the IA bearing..shows nothing in the knobs on schematic so i pulled one off and theirs 2 bushings in each knob...am i the only one who thinks this is kinda wrong in a way???
  17. I posted a while back about how the bearing count on a few of my lews being wrong, these were baitcasters wich the bearing count on the reel and schematic was actually less then what they really had. I thought id pull out a spinning reel schematic from a lews and check...wow. 10 bearings??? Not seeing it, and i took the reel apart fully and theres not 10 by far... that being said i still love lews reels but dont get why that is the way it is???????
  18. I also like light line, 8-10lb mono on a MH spinning rod. For me the mono works better for pulling fish that wrap around something like a tree out of there and away from it than fluro, the stretch in mono helps i beleive... and i just like mono
  19. How long as it been slow like you describe?
  20. Its hard to tie but the slim beuty knot is the best leader to line knot for braid to mono fluro to mono etc... that i have seen and used, i used to have the same problem and that reduced it best for me. Like above poster stated about his leader never being so long it goes into the guides years ago i realized myleaders only need to be about 18 inches due to the stained to muddy water i fish so i use a uni to uni now but if you fish cleaner water than i do then learn the slim beuty, you will like it.
  21. My favorite reels all time! Have a couple 25yr old abu rounds that still work like they did when i bought them, as solid as they come and most of them can be upgraded with extra bearings for cheap if you go abec5 wich is all the bearing youll ever need in any reel...
  22. Im pretty impressed with real magic. What makes kvd's better? Just silicone spray correct?
  23. When i first started using a baitcaster it felt weird having used left handed spinning gear. After a while though i got used to it and it feels natural to me me now. I do use left handed baitcasters when im crankin, carolina riggin and with a jig because for me i have way better feeling with my right hand vs my left....
  24. I also looked for kvd line conditioner but couldnt find it so i picked up some real magic and sprayed my spools that have fluro and co-poly and sat them overnight, the memory was reduced a lot and it casts a lot better for me now. Im just curious how kvd is different??? Is it not sprayed? Its just silicone too isnt it??
