  1. Yeah I have an email in with shimano, I just figured I would check if anyone found anything as well since it seemed like there was more than a few people experiencing this. TX- no, I only opened it once when I got it to make sure two brakes were on already.
  2. Sorry to necro this thread but I'm having near identical issues with my Curado 70. Just got it in February and it worked great the first few times I used it (didn't really have it out until recently since weather want very cooperative) but now it is producing that Same sound. I tried doing a basic clean and lube since I did fish in rain a few days but it did not resolve the issue. DVT, were you able to find anything with the reels you had by chance?
  3. Cabelas last year around this time I think actually. Found a brand new Abu Garcia Beast. 180 I think it was. 2 years ago, got a shimano curado 200Ge6 for 70 or 75 bucks new. My first baitcaster actually.
  4. Being a bank fisherman, I have most issues when it comes to boaters who decide they "HAVE TO" fish where I am fishing or run the boat right in front of where I am clearly casting. The worst offenders being bow fisherman, who don't seem to care that I am knee deep or hip deep in the water and decide they need to buzz full bore as close as they can get to me and spotlight the entire area. Yes, there are more to these stories naturally. I apologize if there's any bow fisherman here, but all the bow fisherman I've met in the last year do not put a good reputation out for you. The two most infuriating stories I have: Buddy and I came to the local lake and decided to fish a common spot. Just a pier that juts partly into the lake with a lot of deep water access and rocks. I'm casting a plopper and on the third retrieve a Muskie surfaces and you can see its coming after my lure. Naturally, right as it surfaces, a red kayak rounds the fishing pier as close to the bank line as possible right in front of me. Not only do I have real quick get my lure back in, but the muskie surfaces again and you can see it clear as day about face and swim back out deep. Kayak dude looks at me, laughs, and keeps following the bank line of the pier. Story two: Buddy and I seek out pretty remote areas, or so we think. We are out fishing and in a spot where we've had good success in the past where we've not seen any other people fishing in the past. So we just get there and decide to wade the water knee deep and start hearing pops of fish around us. You can see bright lights a small distance away but we think nothing of it. 3 casts in, 4 spot lights round the far corner maybe 300 yards down coming straight to us. Being late at night, we both hit our headlamps to let them know "hey there's fisherman out here." The boat keeps coming toward us, firing into the water as they inch ever closer. Finally at about 100 yards away, I get my flashlight out and just spotlight the boat. They curse me out for spotting them, never mind the fact they've blinded us for the last 10 minutes, and proceed to get as close as they can to us (I swear we could have touched the boat) and max throttle back to the other end of the lake.
  5. Are you fishing into the night, or do you leave as nightfall starts? A lot of the time, any bite there is or was can shutdown as the sun sets until the sky turns completely dark, and in the dog days of summer the night bite can be better than the day bite all together. You mention that there is a lot of vegetation in the water, does this extend straight to the top of the water? I know you've tossed buzzbaits, spinners, etc. Have you running a hollow body frog around the lake? Also, have you gone finesse style on the lake or used over sized worms? Also, if you are fishing a well cleared, common, everybody fishes spot that can hurt your chances of a bite too and you need to find different angles or different spot. Even if that means something as simple as walking in the water a few feet to open up new angles of retrieve.
  6. Is this the reel you dunked in the water? If so, replace the tension cap and give it a good cleaning and lubing and it should be good to go. Smokes not a bad reel by any means, and a dunk in the water will not ruin it unless perhaps its salt water.
  7. 1x Bone 130 Plopper 1x Powder 130 Plopper 1x Jackall Pompadour Bone 1x Jackall Mikey SR Aurora Black 1x Persuader Baby Duck Possibly more to come in the future yet. Month to go till week of vacation means a month to order more lures to toss into lake come day 1 of vacation.
  8. With everything that's been said regarding rods being the important part of casting, I'd be very interested in seeing what sub 100 or sub 150 rods would cast better with the typical reel most enthusiasts like us would use. Curado e and I, daiwa zillion, t3, the BB1's for instance paired with sub 100 or 150 rods like the croix premier, ugly sticks, Fenwick and dobyn rods, and whatever other common rods fit that bill. I don't think I've seen any reviews where different rods that weren't in the 300 dollar and up range had been put to use with various reels that were filled with the exact same type of line.
  9. I own a 7 ft black broomstick that I use for casting muskie plugs and my sonar phone. Also caught a carp on it (different story). I also own 2 of the newer blues I got for 20 a rod. 1 caster, one spinning. I love these rods, for 20 bucks I wasn't expecting much but I gotta say, they are quite sensitive and work well for what I use them for. The spinning rod is med x fast and I use it for worming and finesse fishing. The casting rod is mh and that works good for top water.
  10. I have a Houston rod that my revo beast once was paired to. Now I have a 200g curado mated to it. Love the rod, very sensitive and stiff. They really are an excellent deal vs what you can get for the same modulus bps rods. I highly recommend them.
  11. Another option would be to use the braid as backing and tie on mono. This depends on the total size of the spool capacity actually, plus using braid backing can lighten the spool as well compared to all mono. Easiest fix imo, and results in no lost line until the mono is trash and you decide whether you want to maintain the braid as backing.
  12. I'm a young'en and noob to this compared to WRB and several others I'm sure, but I'm 100% in agreement with what WRB called on this one (I've noticed he tends to be pretty spot on on many things here) and would have to say your thumb technique is hurting you here. While you can completely lock down the centrifugal and magnetic breaks, I imagine that lightweight spool may very well be too light weight to really be affected and if you have everything turned down like you would normally the spool will free spin too easilly. The guy who I regularly fish with got me started on baitcasters just last year, and for practice he told me to take 15-20 minutes and sit in my room with the tension knob turned up at first, and practice thumb control by letting the bait drop and use my thumb to stop it as it touched ground and not backlash (something I still do, with little tension knob on my new favorite caster the beast). I highly recommend doing this, and using a heavier weighted clipped jig head if possible before giving up on the xtreme.
  13. Ymmv, however i haven't had much luck with a spinner bait on green lane Personally. Always attributed that to the abundance of people fishing them there. My 2 best baits have been chatterbaits and rubber worm actually, but I also dont do any boat fishing. I only ever bank fish. What part of green lane do you fish? Above, or below the dam? If you are above the dam (behind the high school or off hill road boat launch) theres a lot dynamite places where you should be able to get fish. Just look for the points and what appear to be natural cliffs (across from hill road theres a run of cliff that leads to a point). From what I've seen right now though (last week or so), it looks like there still playing it close to the banks so keep that in mind when you're fishing the cove. A number places you could probably cast onto the bank and pull it into the water and get some good hits. Take all this with a grain or salt, or sand, though. I'm no pro and hopefully didn't come across that way. I just live maybe 10 mins away from the lake and spend a lot of time there lol
