  1. And sometimes it's too d**n hot to catch fish. LOL. I went this morning and caught a dink bass and two crappies (I was bass fishing) after paddling all over a 35 acre reservoir. I had to resort to casting a Cordell Spot toward the deepest areas, letting it sink to the bottom and reeling as slowly as possible to catch those. But I've been on lockdown because my wife's 90 yr old dad has been with us for 3 1/2 weeks and he's a full-time job. 1 1/2 more weeks to go.
  2. It looks like Savage gear has come out with yet another lure I could use for 2 straight summers without single a bite. On the other hand, I didn't think the SPRO Rat would work for me and it has. I feel like the Rat will do everything this snake does. It's a critter that ash the unmitigated audacity to swim right through the bass's domain. That won't be long tolerated.
  3. One of my favorite baits is a craw on a plain weedless Arky head. it flat out gets bites and the bait lasts a lot longer than it will on a T rig.
  4. There are probably craws there. I fished a lake down here and didn't see a craw for 30 years until I saw a claw protruding from a bass's "posterior". Come to think of it, I don't see craws anywhere I fish. I use craws everywhere I fish and bass bite 'em. For that matter, I don't see worms swimming anywhere either.
  5. Well, he caught fish after fish on them. I'm sure they're fine. I like Zoom and Mann's Hardnose. But I feel certain I could catch bass on the Shadee Shad.
  6. The more things change, the more they never seem the same.
  7. Would depend on which I was in the market for.
  8. Second the Mann's Hardnose. The nose is tough as nails and one will last a long time.
  9. CC Spots? That's my favorite lipless. But to be really old school, you'd have to pull out the Bayou Boogie. It's still being made. https://www.heddonlures.com/product/bayou-boogie-3/
  10. I've been fishing almost 40 years. Every time I think I'm good at fishing and I've figured something out, they show me otherwise. As @EGbassing said, the T rig is just the ticket for gaining confidence. For the longest time, it's all I ever fished on my Zebco 33. And I still can tie it on and expect some action even when bass are sulking.
  11. @cadman @Munkin Thanks guys.
  12. If you have a favorite spinnerbait (War Eagle Gold-Gold Shiner) and you wanted to replace the smooth gold blades with hammered ones, how would you know you were buying the exact same size? And from whom would you order them? Thanks in advance.
  13. Great quality brand. I don't have that particular model, but my favorite SB is their double willow leaf, 3/8 oz. in gold shiner pattern.
  14. Unless you're in a high level tournament, there really is no "pressure" to catch fish. I enjoy looking for a way to break the skunk. I'll try some technique that I haven't before. It really builds confidence if you ****** victory from the jaws of defeat with a method you haven't used.
  15. A Ned rig and a Rooster Tail should tell you pretty quickly.
  16. If you caught some near 3 lbs or the average is anywhere near 2 lbs., that, to me, wouldn't indicate they're stunted for a pond. Even so, the recommendation by experts is that someone else harvests a minimum of 20 lbs. of bass per acre per year. So, if it's a 3 acre pond, you need to harvest a minimum of 60 lbs. of bass a year. Ideally, those would be the dinks, leaving some larger fish to grow and hopefully become trophy size. So, basically, you should probably keep all the fish under 2 lbs. that you catch there, unbless you can't for some reason. I fish several ponds, but I only practice this at one pond because it's my buddy's and the bass are severely stunted. And my friend tells me to put EVERYTHING I catch in his basket. He either eats them or gives them away. I'll take a mess of them from time to time.
  17. There may not be anything new that you can see about them on the site. But they went on sale at the end of the year. Some of them were sold out. They came off the site and now there they are, regular price. Either way, they're good rods. My 7'3" frog rod is the lightest rod I own. Granted, I don't own any $200 rods. The Falcon LowRider is still better a better rod though.
  18. That's the other $100 rod I have and it's good. Mine could probably be better, but I have the frog model. It could double as a pool cue. I think they updated the models because they had them $20 off for a while before they went MIA.
  19. Falcon Lowrider. I own a couple $100+ rods. The Falcon is far superior to the other.
  20. I all but cinch it. I use a Lew's Tournament MB Speed Spool LFS reel and a Cabela's Frog model Tournament ZX rod. I haven't found the fish I can't pull out yet. Just use common sense about how much weight a rod can lift. I lean on my rod pretty hard because it's a frog model. You expect to be able to abuse it a bit. But I doubt I've ever put 10 lbs. of load on it.
  21. To those who think there's no use for a trailer hook, try one. Every fish you catch on the trailer you would not have caught without it and I've caught a lot on the trailer. Needless to say, I always use one on SB's and buzzbaits.
  22. Almost equally because they have different uses. It depends on what the fish want. But I own 4 BC combos and 2 spinning combos for bass.
  23. Shoes, purses, toenails, fingernails, eyebrows waxed, $50 haircuts, $80 dye jobs, etc., etc. Mine never says a word about fishing. I mean, I don't have or even want an expensive bassboat. I'll probably drop $1000 on a good replacement kayak one of these days. Other than that, i'm set for rods and reels for a while.
  24. And bubble gum...trust me
