They open at 6am if anyone else was interested. Didnt have a whole lot of luck yesterday, ended up with two small largemouths and a pickerel for the day. Didnt get my hook set on another that wrapped around some reeds (or whatever the heck it is that litters the shoreline there) prior to his escape and had a couple others that went after a sexy frog but didnt get hooked. Fun day as always though. Beds all over the place that have been vacated.
Was using 15lb Power Pro braid today and had a heck of time with the San Diego for the first few tries. I use this not pretty much exclusively on flurocarbon and mono but it took a few tries to get used to it on braid. Easier to do a uni for me.
Are there boat rentals at Briery? I havent been able to find anything about it so I'm leaning towards no. Was really hoping to head down tomorrow but wont do it without a boat
Hit Hunting Run with a buddy today and fished for about eight hours without catching any bass. Buddy caught a pickerel but I didnt get a darn thing. Was pretty windy and we had a really tough time keeping the rental boat in an area that we could fish.Gonna try to hit Briery tomorrow morning; hopefully it goes better.
Edit: forgot to mention that the water was quite clear today. Visibility was about five feet.
Recently moved to VA and was planning on hitting Hunting Run on Friday with a buddy of mine. I've never been and was curious about where I should head and what to expect? Looks like a cool area.
I just picked up my first baitcaster (Lew's Tournament SK which is similar to the Tournament from what I understand) and have been pretty happy. I've been able to get it dialed in and only had a single backlash. I have no way to compare it apples to apples to another caster but it has been newbie friendly for sure. It is quite smooth but with that said, everything is plastic so reliability down the road may be an issue. Has been well worth the $100ish so far.
Why 30-40lb braid when 15-17lb mono is sufficient? Is this just a matter of diameter and the ability to spool more braid vice something that is actually easier to cast/use? Honest question, I'm new.
I dont think only white is nice, I do however believe the original post was asking for a quality piece in white, not various other items. If you can find a quality item in a color you prefer, why wouldnt you purchase that?
I have a 20, 25, and 30 series President and I've been very happy with all of them. I think they're impossible to beat for the money. I've never used an HMG but have a HMX that I use for trout and I really like the rod. I cant imagine you'd be disappointed with the HMG/President combination for the relatively small investment you'd be making.
I want to find something that has a lot of pockets for my plastics bags so I dont have to fish through them to find what I want. Was thinking about having my wife make some sort of caddy for the plastics with embroidered labels on velcro so I could easily identify them without pulling them out of the pockets.
I have a Spiderwire backpack and it's a love hate relationship. The straps and back of the pack make it nice and comfy to wear and holds a fair amount of stuff. My biggest complaint is that it doesnt stand up well when not being worn. Not too bad if all the boxes are in it. The "cooler" portion of it is useless for keeping food/drink items so I just stuffed more gear in there. It has served me well for trout but doesnt seem to work as well for my bass gear.
