  1. Well I'm an college student and unfortunately its not a college that has a bass team lol. So I do what I can with what I got and what I don't have I save up for it. lol. Hard work pays off!
  2. Yes sir, as I've been lookin up different units I've noticed different brands have trade names like you just mentioned. I just wanted to be sure about the structure scan.. Anyways , I haven't giving much thought on a Humminbird, What little research I have done on them the reviews haven't been all great. But I know every person has their own opinion. Ive researched some more and I think I may wait a little longer to save up a little more and i think I'm gonna try and go with the Garmin Echomap 73sv. I really appreciate all the info and suggestions, and gonna try and look into em!!
  3. Stupid question but is structure scan and side scan the same thing? What I have read, side scan covers more water so that is something I should want right? I know need a unit with gps, I want a unit to mark points, but I guess the real question is should I get a unit with downscan, sidescan, or both? Far as my price range goes I was hoping to get a good unit with these options in the 600-800 range. If possible
  4. Hey guys, before I got into tournament fishing I traded a racecar awhile back for a champion 191 bass boat.. I'm getting it up and running this year to run as a boater next season in my club. I'm used to pond hopping so I'm not knowledgeable with electronics.. Anyways, I know this a question that has been asked a million times, but what should I be looking for in electronics?? And what do you guys think would be the best unit for your money? I was looking at the garmin echomap 73dv , or lowrance elite 7 chirp.. Just looking for any suggestions that may get me pointed in the right direction! And yes I know there is an electronics page , I posted in the general to hopefully get some more replys ha. Thanks!!!
  5. Listen to these guys! They all have great answers. I joined a great local club earlier this month and was nervous about joining for the same reasons you are. I am used to fishing local ponds so that is all I know other than the basics. Be respectful to all the members and I am sure they'll help you and give all the knowledge and experience they can. I'm fishing as a co angler for now and what I do before each tournament is call and talk to the guy I am fishing with, meet him the day before to help get his boat ready and whatever else you can do to be respectful since he is your ride lol. I also don't hound my boaters about where I think we should fish and where not to. Just be a long for the ride, have fun fishing and ask a lot of questions to gain knowledge. Pay attention to what they're using and what they're doing. Be observant. Most of all just be respectful and have fun a long the way ! My first tournament I was fishin with the club president nervous as crap, he helped me all he could and we're good friends. I also got lucky and finished 2nd in my first tournament lol. Good luck!!
  6. Appreciate all the info guys! I'll probably go with a rod that i can at least get a feel for at my local bass pro. Really don't wanna order a rod through tackle warehouse and don't like the feel. Lol

  8. Hey guys, I'm lookin for good rod for deep diving crankbaits. I was hoping to find a good one in the $100 range. I don't much about fishing deep crankbaits mainly bc I'm used to fishin ponds. I've researched and found the rod you basically want is a 7'6 medium heavy and moderate action (everyone has their own opinions and setups though). I was looking at the Bass Pro carbonlite rods. Any suggestions???
  9. Lews laser MG speed spool would be my suggestion for a starter baitcast reel. Retail on tackle warehouse for $80. They are very great reels for the price and really smooth for long casts. As far as rods go, I would go with a 7'0 medium heavy. Longer rod for your distance, and a medium heavy is a good all around rod for different techniques. Good luck! Once you learn to use em and get comfortable with them you'll love baitcasters
  10. Thanks for the info guys! They are small hairline cracks, and didn't think it was anything major but I wanted a little input from some other people! I appreciate it. Hopefully by the end of the week I can get it to a marine service center and have everything front to back gone through. Last thing I need is issues on the water , especially in tournaments, haha. Thanks!!
  11. Hey guys, I have a 96 Champion 191 Boat. The boat is in pretty good condition for its age (in my opinion), but the hull does have some minor hairline stress cracks. I have not had the boat for a while, I got it through a trade. I'm not real familiar with fiberglass boats. Is this typical? Is it a major concern? Is there any way to fix it with products, etc.?? Any knowledge/experience with this issue would help, thanks!!
  12. Squarebills are fun to fish, for me anyways. Prespawn and fall mainly when i use em. There are two lakes around here where i live, one lake ill catch them all day on a squarebill and the other lake i wont get a bite all day, but can wear em out on a 7.5" texas rigged culprit worm. I assume the fish in that lake are lazy and wont chase nothin outside 1ft to bite. Haha. With that being said , the fish are different in every lake. You just have to take the time to learn the fish and what they like. Keep practicing on them squarebills, deflecting them off cover , youll learn the fish and what to do. Every cast you can learn somethin. I caught this 5lber on a SK squarebill yesterday in the rain . Good luck
  13. Fished it twice . Big waste of time. Barely got bites and few fish we did catch we're horribly small. But that was quite awhile ago. Talked to some friends recently and said fishin still ain't even decent. I wouldnt reccomend your time or gas to fish it but that's just me. If anyone else on here has had better experiences let me know!
  14. I understand and support that. I don't guess I worded that the best way. I was just wondering if anyone has been able to fish any golf courses around here, legally. my mistake
