  1. It works. Magnesium and composite frames transmit gear noise more than aluminum frames but it can be done. I have 2 Lew's custom lites which are tanso tech composite with aluminum gears. They are smoother now then the day I bought them
  2. So it should be a hair lighter. And it looks better.kvd is 7.2 mp is 7.0
  3. Like everything else it will come down
  4. I've been fishing with my brother in law for a few months on his boat equipped with live scope. His setup is all Garmin with spot lock. Regular sonar and side view and GPS all work together on one network with the live scope. I can see what he sees on his front screen. You can also see under the boat and behind the boat a little ways. I've learned a bit about it and I'll tell you I don't think there is a chance of banning it. You still have to get the fish to bite. I've seen fish turn away from lures a lot of times. Today they were on The bottom in 40 feet. You had to pay attention to see them start to rise.Water temp was 45 degrees. Baitfish were all over but the smallies weren't going hog wild on them . One time Neil's lure was headed down to a group of 3 and as it got close the fish just scattered and disappeared. They wanted nothing to do with his blade bait. Another time he had a dimiki rig on and you could could see the fish go after it . I told him he was gonna get hit and he did. Live scope is a tool to catch fish it's not cheating. It will get cheaper as time goes by. Angler skill is still required maybe even more so. It also teaches you about fish behavior and reaction. The tournament broadcasters should show the catch and then the announcer should show a full screen picture of the anglers screen and explain what's going on. That would make the broadcast more interesting as long as you had a good commentary like maybe Mark Zona.IMHO livescope is here to stay.
  5. I had an mgx. Loved the lightness until it turned into a coffee grinder. I've heard that magnesium and composite frames tend to transfer gear issues more than aluminum. So Lew S came out with the custom lite which is supposed to be a ultra hard frame. So far I've had no issues after 2 seasons. My mgx was first Gen so I can't comment on the newer ones.
  6. If you go with braid get Vicious No Fade Braid. Get 50 lb to start. I think leaders are useless IMHO. If you get green there is no need to recolor ever. I use Palomar knots and crazy glue the tag end. It's worked for 30 years. Spiderwire stealth is a poor braid IMHO. It has to much drag and resistance to letting the bait free fall. I also hate noisy braid and the Vicious is very quiet.
  7. We were fishing a location on Candlewood lake in Connecticut. Last Sunday and catching fish on a spot in 38 feet the size of a car. It has a dropoff from 10 feet close by. Smallies were grabbing bait fish off the bottom. Blade baits were the ticket. You would never know the spot was there unless you found it by accident. It produced 9 smallies in 20 minutes.Guys have to remember they may mark bait alls and fish but still not get bites. When the water is cold the bite is off more than it's on. We had a 20 minute window to work with.

  9. Agree big time
  10. I could see mono but one good backlash and the flourocarbon is garbage. You kink it it's done.
  11. I would never start with flourocarbon on a baitcaster. 50 lb vicious no fade braid.
  12. You wrap it around a wood dowel and either get your lure back or break a hook or pull in a dead body. Either way you lose a lot less stuff.
  13. A nice 200$ rod with a 300$ reel on it is my best way to go. Feels light and balanced. Dobyns rod has lifetime replacement . Lews custom light helps make it balanced and light so it all goes together well. It's like an extension of my arm.
  14. I used to be against composite frames. I have had them break on spinning reels and my buddy has had a few snap at the reel seat. This was all around 2003. I've since bought a couple of Lews custom Lite baitcaster with tanzo tech composite frames. They are supposed to be extremely hard. I've never felt them flex in the 2 seasons I've owned them . So based on that I think people should try the sevin reels if they are looking for a new brand.
  15. Shore fishing ? I'd get a medium casting with a reel to cast light baits and replace your medium heavy with the broken tip.. add a third mh setup
  16. I'm a 6. Wish I was better.
  17. Agree. And use vicious No Fade Braid
  18. That's one fishing trip for me !!!
  19. It means don't use backing. Tie to the spool holes
  20. I would have done the same thing. I agree with the guys saying use a net and cut down the time if possible. Sometimes it happens.
  21. You need a 4.9 oz. Lews custom lite
