  1. Wrong. Balance point is center Of reel seat under rod. The weight sits on top of pivot. Weight of reel has no effect. I used to add butt weights but since rods have gotten so much lighter I no longer do this. Just get the least tip heavy rod you canand go for the lightest most naturally balanced combo you can. Rod technology has progressed so much that it's actually not that hard or costly.
  2. Deep cranks and rip rap are like peanut butter and jelly .
  3. Well I added another lefty to my aresenal. I bought a serious cranking reel from Lews at Sportsmans Outfitters for 159. Normally 199 elsewhere. It will be a while until I fish it swing as I am recovering from covid with Blood clots in my lungs. The reel has a nice long handle and 6.2 gears. It has a externally adjustable 6 pin brake and a spool that holds 160 /12.I love all my Lews products and I'm sure I'll be having fun with this one as I recover. If covid teachs me one thing it's that I need to go fishing more.
  4. Best fishing is as a front is coming through. After its through you need a few days.
  5. Get the best Dobyns rods you can afford.
  6. I own a rowboat. I would never fish from the bank by choice. Catch rates and pleasure are Definately higher even rowing.
  7. IMHO the boat angler has the advantage. Especially with stuck lures. The boat angler can f ish spots and still get his lures back. Laydowns and ripwrap are 2 examples of this.
  8. Braid is the easiest to get a backlash out of. I never have to pick it.
  9. Yeah I fought it for years but that's what's happening.
  10. I bought one by accident. I didn't return it because a lot of guys who are righty pitch with a lefty. I tried it and at first it was awkward. Now I'm in the process of converting all of my reels. Right now the lefties are for pitching and bottom contact baits and worms.
  11. These days anything goes. Pink reel and matching panties and your all set.
  12. Lews Pro slp 169.99 @ sportsmans Outfitters
  13. Ok here's my trick.clean reel then spray ptfe on all parts that need lube then let dry and oil and grease as usual.ive gotten rid of noises I couldn't figure out that way.
  14. I agree 100 percent.
  15. My main reasons for not using it is I don't think it gets me any more bites and even though I don't backlash much I can't afford when one good backlash destroys a spool of flouro. My bait spends far more time in the water with braid on it . more tie in the water is more fish caught. And contrary to what some say it is far easier to remove backlash from braid than any other line.
  16. Sufix 832 50 lb for everything . I only use casting gear.fish neds on it also.yellow braid with last 6 feet markered black. No need for leaders IMHO. I've tried all different lines and keep coming back to this.
  17. 50 lb Sufix 832. Ditch the leader.
  18. Send it back and get a perfect one.
  19. Same exact one I have .Definately buying more.
  20. Dobyns Sierra Micro or regular series.serious rods at that price.
