  1. that would depend on how you look at it.let's say you spend $300 on a reel it lasts 10 years = $30 a year cost.let's say you spend $99 on a reel and it lasts 5 years = $20 a year.lets say you buy a rick clunn on sale for $69 and it last 5 years = $13.8 a year.i have 3 trion round reels that are 5 years old and have only had normal lube jobs.they cost $89 each and are as good as new.
  2. i don't think the red will be as easy to see as the yellow.iwouldjust color the end of your yellow with a red permanent marker.
  3. out of curiousity what is the big deal with sending them to bps for service.either guys do it themselves or send them somewhere so what difference does it make where you send them as long as they are done right?
  4. 15 feet is where red turns grey/black totally.the line doesn't dissapear.it turns greyish black thus camoflaging the line in all but the clearest water.some people think red attracts bites in shallow water.this is where your red hook theory comes in.red hooks on a deep crank do nothing but turn grey/black.i am coloring the faded ends of my sufix braid red with a permanent marker next year to try it out.
  5. i would put the johnny morris rod up there with any of them.
  6. you mean exspensive.besides i've gone 5 trips without having to retie my snap to the braid.it saves a lot of line.it makes it easier to change lures which is a plus when you can only have 6 rods on a rowboat.
  7. the only berkley bait i use is a powerworm.zoom znd yum for most plastics.
  8. nope,just smallies.
  9. go on ebay and check out all the antique shakespeare and pflueger reels they have on there site.
  10. this was caught hopping a 1 oz. krocodile silver spoon on the bottom in 50 feet of water.
  11. bps rods are great.i have a rick clunn baitcaster but i haven't owned it long enough to give a review.i will tell you i did order another one.the johnny morris and rick clunn reels are both made by pflueger and i love pflueger.
  12. i use berkley cross lock snaps size 3 which are 60 lb test.you aren't breaking these snaps.i use them on everything.iuse sufix braid and don't want to be cutting it off.using snaps makes braid last forever.i have found no decrease in catch rates due to use of braid and snaps.the fish could care less. to texas rigg i use a jobee pro hook. to shakey head i clip on a shakey head jig
  13. true as can be.i would never buy a graphite frame reel.get a medalist or the new supreme magnesium frame (you should not let salt get on magnesium frames) when it comes out. http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/products.php?p=9
  14. rapala dt16 and a rattlin rapala 1/2 oz. both in shad pattern.
  15. it's more likely to get busted in the trunk where you forget about it.get a 1 piece and just be carefull with it,i drive a hyundai accent and fit rods up to 6-10 in it with no problem.
  16. on a deep diver i clip to the split ring.if you don't have a split ring clipping it with a big lip can be a pain.on a lipless crank or jerkbait/crankbait with a small lip i remove the split ring.
  17. if i could only have 2 rods it would be a 6-6 mh johnny morris signature series and a 7-6 johnny morris flipping stick with pflueger summit reels on each both spooled with 65 lb suffix braid.my top 5 lures would be as follows. 1)10 inch power worm 2)1/2 oz. booyah black/red jig and trailer 3)1/2 oz.rattlin rapala in shad pattern 4)3/8 booyah white spinnerbait with double willow blades 5)5 inch senko
  18. pflueger summit. or supreme
  19. he obviously had no clue how to set up a reel.any good salesman who is trying to sell a newbie a baitcaster would set it up right so it wouldn't backlash at all.
  20. sometimes the ones that run with it aren't bass.they are pannies and don't get the hook in their mouth.
  21. first of all buy sufix braid in at least 50 lb test.this will keep digging in a non existant event.it will only dig if you force your thumb on the spool and pull against a locked drag.get a wood dowel for when you get stuck and wrap the line around it and pull.most of the time you will get your lure back.secondly it's not like mono has no issues either.third tip wrap is the worst issue but you will learn to keep that to a minimum.here's the good news.you will feel things you have never felt before.you will catch fish you have never caught before because you never knew they were biting your lure.you will feel a fish inhale a crankbait and shut his mouth on it.you will feel a double willow spinnerbait blade turn every turn at even the longest casts.you will feel the fish inhale the spinnerbait and his mouth shut then you hammer him.you will feel the slightest take on a jig or a worm.backlashes are less frequent and easier to remove from braid.you can loosen up your brake settings and thus cast furthur than with mono or flouro.you can color the line any color you want with a permanent marker.you could buy hi vis yellow and color it green, black or red if you want.i am going with red next season.drag settings with treble hooks should be looser so the fish can pull drag instead of ripping hooks out.you will be able to set a hook at any distance with just a flick of your wrist due to the lack of stretch in braid.braid takes some getting used to but to me it's the best.
  22. which leads me to this question.did you send it in for repair?if not why not?it has a 1 year warranty.if you did then how has it been since then?i work on $40000 jeeps all day.even they come back sometimes broken within a week.does that mean the product stinks?we fix them under warranty and they go back out.all manufacturers have issues.it's only fair to give them a chance to correct a problem.
  23. i use sufix braid with berkley cross lock size 3 snaps for everything. these snaps will never fail!!!
  24. i have to dissagree.i've fished my buddie's glx rods and they are no better than a johnny morris rod.in fact they are not as sensitive.he blew out the guides on his numerous times and had them replaced by loomis.johnny morris uses fuji titanium framed sic guides (the best guides made) which will not be hurt by braid.why a $300 dollar rod has guide issues with braid is beyond me.also i've used the light and tough rods.they are nice but i wouldn't put them above a johnny morris.i would rate them higher than a glx.another friend i know uses nothing but light and toughs with power pro and has no guide issue either.and the light and tough uses ordinary fuji aluminum oxide guides.if i was going to shell out a lot of $ on a high end rod i would consider a st.croix or a kistler.
