  1. why would youthrow cranks on a spinning rod?the retrieve rate is to high.
  2. fishing with jim fanning -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- fished with fanninja last night with an interruption from a thunderstorm.we thought the night was going to get rained out but it stopped from 6:15 to 9 pm before lightning was visible again so we did get a night of fishing in.as usual once the front came through the fishing got slow.we boated 5 fish for the night.all my fish were caught on 3 different lures. the first was a wacky rig senko.the second hammered a spinnerbait so we thought spinnerbaits would be the ticket but that turned out to be false.the third weighed 5 lbs even and crushed my bandit crankbait after seriously cranking a rocky area.i think both of jim's fish were caught on soft jerkbaits. jin now owes me a trip on kensico which i will definately take him up on.i've never fished kensico with somebody who knows it well enough to put me on fish.i hardly ever get to catch smallies so that should be fun.
  3. hate the foam.looks like an ugly stick!!! ;D
  4. i've done a few of those!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
  5. no foregrip/split grips are a marketing thing to sell rods.the blank amplifies the strike and you feel it through the handle.hold your line and hold myour rod with a 1/2 oz jig on the floor pop the line tight.you will feel the vibration amplified in the rod handle far more than you feel it in the line.
  6. They do offer there blanks to the custom rod builders. The whole split grip design isn't about looking cool it is for better senceitvity. If your rod feels to tip heavy you just need to balance your rod by putting some weight in the back of the blank. I guarantee you the same rod with split grip and non split grip in your hands you cant tell the difference in sensitivity don't fool your self buddy :-X : Well I own both split grip and full grip rods and there is a difference its not a huge difference. So don't fool yourself buddy. So do I and rod builders have clamied it makes no difference they use split grip to save on cork cost, and because customers fell it's m0ore comfortable. In fact a full grip balances the rod better which a balanced rod will feel more sensitive Bud, i agree with that last comment %100!!!
  7. more on baitcasters because the spool is thinner.some spinning reels do it but most do not.
  8. the brake is centrifugal not magnetic.
  9. 6-6 mh spin for worms and soft plastics. 6-6 mh baitcast with a soft tip for cranks and spinnerbaits and topwaters. 7-6 flipping stick
  10. i've hand my hand go stupid and have thrown 2 nice combos into the lake and never got them back.things happen!!!
  11. i like full grips.i think these new designs are just a fad.not having cork behind the reel makes it slightly more tip heavy which is a negative in my book.
  12. no,braided line takes forever to deteiorate.
  13. first of all on a baitcaster you need to go with thicker line to help prevent digging in.the thinnest i have gotten away with is 6/20.most of the time i use 12/50.junk the spiderwire and get some powerpro or sufix.
  14. pp red works fine shallow or deep.
  15. all my pfluegers max at 9 lbs measured on a digital scale.
  16. i fish ny city water supply reservirs for the most part.they are from 600 to 1600 acres for the most part.i still love fishing small ponds but that's only when my time is limited.
  17. cutting the barb off is the best thing to do and then back it out.don't yank it's eyeball out.the more damage you do the greater the chance of infection.there are plenty of huge 1 eyed bass.
  18. also, dark colored wacky rigged senkos work well at night sometimes.
  19. use braid at least 50 lb test.
  20. baitcaster for all the same reasons already stated.
  21. nice picture dude!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
  22. i had the pleasure of meeting lp at 5 am today to fish titicus reservoir.the day started of with thick fog and what seem ed like perfect topwater conditions.lp was throwing a pop - r and i was tossing a chugbug.on my second cast i got a blowup on the chugbug but missed him.a little while later i nailed one on the chug bug.that was it for the topwater bite.we switched to different topwaters but nothing was doing. having read the latest reservior reports we figured there would be a t-rig bite going.well, try again!!!no type of t-rig caught anything.we tried cranks, spinnerbaits , lipless cranks, shakey heads, sliders, lizards and a few others i can't remember.we finally gave up and started throwing wacky rigged senkos.wouldn't you know it we put 15 fish in the boat that way!!!sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and throw it.best fish was 3 lbs even.the fish wer also scattered all over the place.the only pattern was it had to be a senko.by 2 pm we were dead and called it quits. here's leigh with a few. and me with one.
  23. i define skunked as on a fishing trip of 5 hours or more.any less time than that and you may just be fishing when they are inactive.i have seen days where i fish 7 hours biteless and the 8th hour a switch is hit and i catch fish left and right.now that it is summer if most of your fishing is from 2 pm to 5 pm you're gonna be skunked a lot.summertime fish bite early or in the dark.it's all a matter of location and timing.that said i haven't been skunked since last year.
  24. i would buy the new redisigned medalist coming out which is all aluminum body and rotor.i hate graphite reels as i have snapped the necks on a few.i have a medalist and it is a fantastic reel.from tackle tour "Pflueger Medalist Spinning Reel: The Medalist isn't a new model but this year the spinning reel gets an upgrade. Because many anglers would use the reel for both freshwater and saltwater applications, Pflueger knew they would have to make this reel more rugged and they did so by introducing a redesigned Medalist with an all aluminum construction. You will see very little plastics used on this reel as it is built to be tough." http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast08reelspfluegershakes.html
  25. the new president baitcaster is coming out.tackle tour showed it on their icast articles.
