  1. just because a guy doesn't spell well or write well doesn't make him stupid.he may be a genius in all other areas.english was my worst subject but i did great in everything else. a number of guys on this forum and others have a shimano/diawa/loomis /st.croix rules and everything else stinks mentality.i hear it all the time because i like pflueger reels.you have to ignore it when you hear it.
  2. i love the reel and hate the rod.i would get a bps johnny morris signature series 6-6 mh.if that doesn't float your boat i would get a american rodsmiths team 6-6 rod with the new golf club material grip.
  3. i prefer the narrow spool.
  4. you almost never see pros using spinning reels under a 3500 size.there is a reason for this.it's called less line issues.if you want a light spinning reel get a pflueger supreme xt.
  5. all casting rods are 9 to 11 inches up when you do that.they are all tip heavy which is why i balance all my rods.the 7 foot MBC70MHF weighs 4.6 oz. , hardly what i'd call heavy. i have the MBC70MF, and the MBC70MHF and without the reel theyre about 22". its by far the most tip heavy rod i have. also, i never stated anything about the weight of the rod, just how the rod balances. if you like them thats fine, but a tip heavy rod to me is annoying. you must have lead in the tip of yours because i tried one at dicks sporting goods today and it was nowhere near 22" . i did not have a ruler but i know it wasn't close to that.i have no real love for st. croix rods.i use bps johnny morris signature series.tip haevy rods are annoying to me also.that is why all my rods are balanced to the center of the reel seats with butt weights.it makes the tip feel weightless.
  6. imho mono = cajun red cast braid = fireline braid flouro = decided i don't like it but think seguar invizx is best.
  7. get rid of the girlfriend!!!
  8. because centrifugal brakes are better than magnets at stopping backlash when you first cast.as the cast goes they back off which is also better for distance.since that reel is for crankbaits which are heavy and usually cast hard a centrifugal brake is far better.

  10. if the patriarch is to much get a president.
  11. the mag brake comes in handy throwing spinnerbaits into a high wind.normally i don't use it but under those conditions it's nice to just dial it in a bit.it can make spinnerbait fishing on a windy day a real pleasure.
  12. they are both great reels and both great values.the patriarch has the titanium deposition finish.it's close to indestructable and will look good far longer than any reel without it.it also has the dual braking system which is fantastic.the president has just centrifugal brakes.the dual system works better than any other made imho.if in any way you can afford it i'd get the patriarch.if you can't then the president is a great choice and a reel to be proud of.
  13. that's easy.a reel set totaly wrong and an uneducated thumb will do it.if you are shore fishing a backlash from snagging a tree without knowing it or just not realizing you are backlashing and not doing anything about it.beginners can make some terrible backlashes that you and i just shake our heads at.
  14. that's why i shop bps or cabela's.hope you get the problem fixed.i wouldn't put up with that.
  15. and since i don't break rods a lot it works out far cheaper for just as good a rod imho!!!
  16. Why is the supreme better suited for freshwater ? Are you saying Pflueger is better than Sahara ? yes he is and i agree.the medalist is a saltwater reel.it will stand up better to corrosion in saltwater use.the supreme is magnesium and cannot be used in saltwater.the supreme is far lighter(magnesium) and is a freshwater reel.the supreme is also smotther.i have owned both reels and they are both nice but for freshwater the supreme takes it.if you could save a few more $ the supreme xt is even nicer imho.
  17. i use johnny morris signature series.imho they compare to any rod made.i've used extremes and my wife has a bionic blade.all good rods at their price points.
  18. bigger spool diameter promotes less line twist and coiling issues.bigger reel is stronger in every way.if you want light buy a pflueger supreme or a supreme xt with a magnesium frame.
  19. tighten the drag down all the way and peel the line off fast.this will squeeze off the oil.if it doesn't work then something else is wrong.it may take a few runs.
  20. you won't be able to tell the difference.there is enough of the two sections contacting each other that the rod is strong and sensitive at the same time.
  21. just tie a palomar and be done with it.a properly wetted and tied palomar will never fail you and it's easy to tie.
