  1. are you sure you spooled it on in the right direction?also when spooling any flouro or mono it is advantageous to put the line in hot water and spool it on under tension .this get's rid of memory.also kvd line spray helps.
  2. as i've said a million times on this forum, powerpro is outdated.it was once the best braid but is no more.there are 2 braids that far outshine the others at this point and they would be diawa samurai braid and fireline's new 8 strand braid.both are excellent but i prefer the fireline because it has more body which = less tip wraps.
  3. no baitcaster is rated for 12 lb. line.all those ratings are is the line capacity of the spool with 12 lb line.you could put 65 lb braid on it if you wanted to.
  4. did you try oiling the brake blocks?
  5. it has some big bass in it but it's really hard to fish at times.sometimes the fish get really lockjawed.i hardly ever get skunked but it's not a place for massive numbers of fish.the best i ever did was 13 fish in one day but then again they were all between 5 and 6 lbs.
  6. 4-10-10 with 20 mph winds and whitecaps leigh and i took on titicus yesterday at 2 pm after i got off work.we caught a total of 2 fish so at least we didn't get skunked.after a 30 degree drop in temps from earlier in the week and bluebird skys with high pressure we were hoping for the best.somehow my picture of his 3 lber got erased so i only have my 2-4.it was fat and fought well.it was caught on a lipless crank in 58 degree water.leigh caught his on that keitech bait that all you guys are in love with.even with the anchor we were still drifting around .we were marking hardly any fish deep or shallow and the total lack of weeds is very alarming.what happened to this lake?i have a feeling most of the fish are in the back end but with no boat control in a rowboat i wasn't venturing back there in 20 mph winds with whitecaps.
  7. Yes, most rod are tip heavy to an extent, some more than others, because not all rods balance perfectly at the reel seat. Most seem to balance around the middle of the foregrip where the anglers index finger sits. For those, since the foregrip is the balance point and not the reel seat, the reel's weight acts as a counter balance, and has very much to do with the balance and feel of the combo. Try swapping a 200 sized reel with a 300 size, and you'll see what I mean. i beg to differ.most fishermen do not hold the rod by the foregrip.most (not all) palm the reel.this makes the fulcrum point the center of the reel seat meaning reel weight has nothing to do with balance.i've never seen a rod that balances itself at the foregrip and neither has tackle tour.the rods they test all balance 9 to 11 inches up from the reel seat.now if you like a tip heavy rod or a rod that balances at the foregrip then you are right about the reel having an effect.but for most of us who hold the rod by palming the reel or hold a spinning rod with the neck coming out the center of the 4 main fingers the correct balnce point is the center of the reel seat.
  8. all rods are tip heavy.balance has nothing to do with reel weight.kistler makes some very nice rods.i do have to wonder why they only made them one year.
  9. pflueger trion narrow spool and a extreme rod are hard to beat.st. croix mojo would be nice also.
  10. you don't pick it out.you push your thumb against the spool with the drag tight and reel against it.this reverses the loops.you then push the cast button and pull the line of until it binds again.you repeat until it comes out.braid is far easier to get a backlash out of using this method.i haven't had to cut one out in years.
  11. powerpro is outdated and no longer one of the top braids.fireline braid and diawa samurai are the 2 best braids made imho.i prefer the fireline to the diawa because it has more body to it. this year i am not fishing any braid because i'm doing an experiment.don't ask because i won't tell.
  12. looks like a good day of early spring fishing to me.
  13. nice smallies you guys have there.
  14. fished titicus today 3-28-10 with andy fender from 8 am to 2 pm.this 4-1 was the only fish we caught.it was freakin cold and windy.andy and i still had fun anyway.air temp was 43 max.water was 45.6 to 46.1.no weeds yet except for some rare spots.i can't wait until it gets warmer.summer can't come fast enough.
  15. AllStar is not what they were at one time. You are not going to get a "good" rod for under 80 beans. St Croix Triumph Series might possibly be under 80 depending on what length, but its not a "GOOD" rod,,it's an ok rod.Good rods will have good conponents,FUJI reel seats& guides,,Alconites, not Hardloys.Of course,my opinion on whats good,is of course,my opinion. That being said,I use St. Croix Avids, and Daiwa Zillions. They are definitely "GOOD" rods, probably very good. do we know that alconites are only slightly harder than hardloys?their is nothing wrong with hardloys for most apllications.i've used them with braid and had no problems.
  16. and drop the powerpro and get some fireline braid.
  17. fireline braid.powerpro is a 4 strand and sufix is a 6 fireline is an 8 strand and is much smoother.diawa is even smotther but is to limp imho causing to many wind knots.
  18. that would be a smart thing to do.
  19. $500 for a shimano rod.not me.if i had the money i would get an american rodsmiths titanioum ultra. http://www.americanrodsmiths.com/Products/H3Titanium/H3TitaniumUltra/tabid/137/Default.aspx
  20. powerpro is outdated.diawa or fireline braids are the best .i prefer
  21. there is only one braid.
  22. No, I mean like a brake cleaner for a vehicle...I have never heard of anyone using break cleaner to clean reels???? Maybe it leaked from a shelf, maybe he was cleaning a rotor or something. Maybe it was gasoline, I don't know, but it looks like the stuff on the reel is built up to me, not pitting it. That is why I thought it might be something that was spilled, leaked, or sprayed on it on a accident. Maybe his wife got mad at him and poured acid on it, I wouldn't put that past a scorned women!
  23. they may be the only ones who actually have blanks made here.
  24. to many guys breaking rods when it not falcons fault so they cut down the warranty.
