use braid.feel the bite reel down and set the hook fairly hard.use 4.0 ewg hooks for most baits.if you fell machine gun taps it's not a bass it's sunfish.
always use the same diameter in braid as you would in mono.this prevents digging into the spool.i would not use anything less than 50 lb test on a baitcaster.
if fish hit an umbrella ig there is no way you will convince me they even remotely care about line.i've outfished guys with flouro a bunch of times and had them outfish me.what it comes down to is who put the bait in front of a willing fish.i use braid for everything.
start with a quality 8 strand braid like powerepro super slick.leaders are not needed.bass are not line shy.i've caught trout on straight braid and they are way more skittish than a bass.other good braids are fireline braid, diawa, and sufix 832.
first of all unless you are fishing deep in clear water you should be using 15 or 20 lb test.2nd,why fish spinnerbaits on flouro?it's a reaction bait so they aren't paying one bit of attention to your line.
i use braid on recoils and it makes no noise.use a smooth 8 strand braid and most of the noise goes away.right now i use powerpro super slick. imho most of the noise is from the line guide.
tape the braid to the spool and get rid of the leader.now you have one line.color the first 5 feet black and your ready to go.i've outfished flouro guys on my boat using this setup and catch plenty of fish all year.
powerpro super slick in 50 lb test.it has a 12 lb diameter.you want your braid to be the same diameter as mono to prevent digging.super slick in this diameter doesn't dig and casts wonderfull.
spool tension is a constant parasitic drain on distance.so are magnetic brakes.centrifugal brakes work on the start up of the spool and back off as the spool slows.keeping your spool tension low and using centrifugal brakes and your thumb will give you the best distance.so will buying an abugarcia mgx.
i have to dissagree.i do think they cast a little bit furthur.they are also lighter.they also keep braid from wrapping as much as a regular guide.i have yet to tip wrap with micro guides.
kent, don't increase the spool tension.use the centrifugal brake.the brake comes off as the spool slows.the tension is constant.who cares how maany pins you use as long as you get distance.if you really want to cast get a abu garcia mgx.you'll never go shimano again.the externally adjustable centrifugal brake is awesome.
