  1. Those look great
  2. If you are useing spinning gear i recommended 10-20lb braid to a 8lb floro leader. Make sure you put 10 to 20 yards of mono backing on your spinning reel.
  3. Jerkbait Fluke Hair jig Every year i pick some baits or techniques to get confidence in thats what im doing this year.
  4. I like to get the boat over some structure i know is in the lake and just fine tune the setting from there. I might be wrong about muddy water but I've never noticed or head of any issues with sonar and muddy water. I guess if there was a lot of suspended particulate in the water you may have to turn the sensitivity dawn to block out that stuff.
  5. Wow I would have never thought you could see fish in a pad field on sonar. Maby i should have went with Garmin instead of hummingbird thats impressive. I just fish pads visually looking for the deepest pads the thickest pads or hard bottom or mixes grass.
  6. Water clarity has no effect on the performance of electronics.
  7. Sorry i didn't mean to get on your case. My grandfather used to do that, he was a butcher, it drove me nuts.
  8. Yes and no, let me unpack this a bit. Once you have quality gear IMO for reels its around 150 bucks give or take and rods 100 bucks i think you can fish at any level. Go below that and you start to have problems that goofball your results. I think its really important to start with cheap stuff and work your way up to better equipment. That way you'll have a lot better idea of what improvements in your equipment you would like to make to have better results on the water. I catch way more fish having 5 setups I can afford then if I just had one set up that was top dollar.
  9. To each his own, reel speed is way overrated Imo but if you like fast reels great if you like slower reals great. I do feel like some of the advice on here fails to take in account what other people actually need. Honestly you could fish every technique with a 6:4.1 reel. I don't want people to feel like they have to have this fast reel or this rod or that lure to have fun and catch fish. Everywhere you look in this sport someone is trying to sell us the next big thing, from the oil in the boat motor to the rod in your hand. I hope on bass resource we can stay away from that and encourage people to have fun and dont worry so much. Lets stop trying to sell product to each other and get back to learning how to become better anglers. It dosent matter how fast the reel or the power of the rod if you can't break down a pad field or pattern a bite. Way too much whats the best lure, rod, reel, line talk and not enough in-depth discussion about patterning fish by day weather ect.
  10. Bryan thrift has a great you tube video on dock skipping really helped me improve thay skill.
  11. Be safe out there the goal is to make it home at the end of the day.
  12. Just get the weedless wedge 2 and a couple shear pins. You probably wont need the prop but the pins are key.
  13. Yes you can also tap the trim up bitton and it will stop there.
  14. I don't have power poles yet but they are on my list. I can think of hundreds on times on the water when they would help. Sight fishing, skipping docks, flipping grass in the wind, i think stealth is really important when fishing shallow and the ability to drift silently and pp down and fish an area with out being on the tm all the time will put more fish in the boat. Yea there expensive and look cool but they definitely have a purpose.
  15. Go with the cover dont be that guy with a ragged tarp. Its a boat not firewood.
  16. Don't go you there and try to KVD cast right away. Thats a good way to waste a spool of line. Start with short smooth casts and work your way up.
  17. I wouldn't fish floro if you are worried about the price. In my experience if you don't want to pay 20 bucks for 200yards dont use fc.
  18. I would rather not destroy all the teeth in a pikes mouth lipping them with a butchers glove.
  19. Sniper and shooter for me lasts long and gets the job done.
  20. I think its a personal preference that people develope over time. Personally i only use leaders on spinning tackle. I am considering useing short mono leaders for top water trebble hook baits.
  21. #6 ewg or a owner beast i think its called.
  22. You didn't read like a hothead to me. That stuff gets really annoying sometimes and it's hard to keep one's cool and keef fishing. I think lots of people just don't get it and don't know better. You did the right thing.
  23. Maby the musky in Washington aren't like the ones in Minnesota, but if I was going on a trip to catch a musky and i wanted to have the best shot from the bank id use live bait and a leader. You can land them without but why risk it. That fish gets a tooth on that line and it's over. You get bit by the right fish you wanna land it.
  24. I religiously use an improved clinch knot for mono and fluorocarbon line. I would suggest you use a couple more wraps and leave a little extra tag end
