  1. @FishingMN Ok so here's my thoughts on this time of year. I totally ignore cruising bass and bass on beds, in not intrested is catching buck bass or wasting time on bedding fish. I believe its better to look for lost spawn females or late spawners. What I do is look for shallow cover like reeds, cattails, pads, laydowns right on the bank, I think big females will get into the cover before and after spawning and bite pretty good. I generally target these fish with a jig, chatterbait and a Keitech swing impact fat the bigger the better imo. You wanna get the bait into the cover as much as you can and cover water, with this pattern you wanna be right on the bank. The next place I look is weed beds in 5' to10' of water depending on water clarity. You want to look for edges or areas where the weed beds are clumped and have clean space between, lily pads are also very good if they have at least 3' of water underneath. I fish these areas with the same baits, it is also important to always have a hollow body frog at the ready and seed if they will eat it. I've caught some of the biggest bass of my like fishing a frog this time of year, you fish it in the same areas I talked about. I generally fish this pattern until late June, the higher the water level or dirtier the water the longer this pattern will last. After this pattern slows I'll start targeting deeper mats, main lake points and hard bottom locations. Hope this helps Sully
  2. Yeah I was working on Calhoun last Thursday and females were on beds with bucks all over the lake.
  3. So I was out today at Lake Calhoun installing Beach ropes at the beaches and as any good fisherman I spent a good amount of time looking for fish. I saw a lot of thick females on inside weed edges sitting around beds looking for males. But I didn't actually see any males on beds yet. It look like try dogs May 18th spawning prediction it's going to be correct. Looks like there may be an opportunity to catch some big females if you can Brave the rainy weather this weekend.
  4. Yea just bolt some boards to the bow. Make sure it's nice and sturdy then mount the tm on the boards.
  5. I haven't even got to fish yet. Season dosen't open until sat.
  6. Go on YouTube and watch zona live with kvd. Watch how he fishes his jerk bait its amazing and you will learn from the master. Great episode anyway.
  7. If you have the cash get a lithium battery that will take the same amount of space of a 24v lead acid system would require.
  8. @TOXIC I couldn't agree with you more on the issue of spraying vegetation in lakes. I'm lucky enough to live in a state that frowns on spraying aquatic vegetation but it's still happens now and then. Sooner or later fishermen will have to take the lead on this issue and advocate for healthy lakes across the U.S and stop needless spraying of vegetation for purely aesthetic reasons. The harvesting of millfoil is a big thing in many of the lakes I fish and even that has a massive effect on fish.( milfoil harvest is the cutting and collection of aquatic vegetation from the surface down to 4') harvesting stops the grass from topping out and makes the problem worse IMO. For now all we can do is keep out lakes clean and make sure we don't leave plastics or line in the lake.
  9. Bass fishing is getting popular up here in Minnesota, in the summer deep weed edges are pretty good. It's common for anglers to pull up 25' yards ahead of me and start fishing the edge. When this happens I know that too many people are fishing only the edges and it's a good time to fish shallow cover or look for deep structures. This has paid off big time not only for finding less pressured fish but also keeps me in a good mind set for fishing which is the most important aspect of my fishing. Fishing needs to be fun first and foremost, no need to let inconsiderate people get in your head.
  10. Has there been an flw tournament on lake minnetonka.
  11. Find areas with deep water near the banks as summer approaches.
  12. I just don't get the clarity that I see on the box or on other units in demo or in videos.
  13. I use a Texas rig when fishing areas with lots of vegetation and a shaky head for hard bottom areas or dock skipping.
  14. I just use transom plugs they should fit
  15. Buy a couple of these shear pins and keep then on the boat. The pins on the 12v tm's break easily.
  16. I've had my helix 7 for 2 years now and I don't think I am getting the si imagining quality I should. I would appreciate and suggestions any one has. I'm using the transducer that came with the unit, I'm am powering the unit from my starting motor trough the circuit board under the console.
  17. Let's be honest most people select fishing gear based on cost and confidence. I like abu reels, Duckett rods, and strike king baits and rapala cranks. I would have no problem using googan baits or favorite rods ect. Very rarely have I seen a specific soft plastic out fish another. I mean is a Rodent going out fish a sweet beaver? The insight I value from bass resource users generally pertains to consumer service and value for the money assessments. Fish what you have confidence in and what you can afford the rest is just marketing and styling Imo.
  18. I have the ulterra, I use the foot pedal most of the time but the fob comes in handy all the time. I can steer with the foot and control speed with the fob. I can also launch and deploy the tm and spot lock it with the fob as well. I find both cable and electronic systems easy to use and don't mind either.
  19. The mega is a huge improvement
  20. There's a difference between bashing and honest reviews, I have no issues with reviews based on personal experience with a product. I do take issue bashing someone's gear because it's not expensive or a specific brand. I also find it strange that so many people go out of their way to sell high end products on this site and they don't even get paid for it. It's great you like x brand and you opinion is valuable, at some point I feel like it can stop new bass fishermen from sticking with the sport because they feel like they need high end stuff to catch fish or avoid ridicule.
  21. That price will get you what your looking for. Install is a breeze and transducer comes with any unit. Just make sure you have a sd card slot so you can save chart data.
  22. Yeah you're right that sucker's expensive
  23. The network capably on the g3n you should be able to find that hummingbird cheaper that $1500
  24. Helix 10 mega wait if you have to and save for it.
  25. Duckett green ghost or the Silverado that's all I use and love them
