  1. Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. If you can fish the whole pond. Top water gets good for me in the spring late in the day after the sun has warmed the water a bit.
  2. Maby fish a jig on the bottom or slowroll a chatter bait. Then try the frog late in the day where the sun warmed the water the most ie west side of the pond.
  3. Remember to manually close your spool after casting instead of letting the reel do it for you. And spool the line the way WRB described.
  4. 2 80lb trolling motors? Where are you going to put 4 batteries in that boat? how will it effect the boat? How wll you steer two trolling motors? It just seems more trouble than its worth and not too practical. I have a 16" tracker and a 80lb ulterra and i get 3mph out of it.
  5. For me in minnesota a big bass is 5lb+. I usually catch them punchimg with skirts and jigs 3/4 to 1-1/2oz. They seem not to school and inhabit the best cover in places other people don't fish.
  6. A big bobber and the biggest sucker minnow you can find. Main line to a steel leader to a #5 straight shank hook connect a 4" steel leader to a #5 or 6 trebble hook. Hook the strait shank through the nose on the bait and stick one barb of the trebble into the upper back of the bait behind the dorsal fin.
  7. Im right handed but only fish left handed retrieve spinning and casting works for me and no hand switching.
  8. Open them up an give them a cleaning then re grease them take pictures as you disassemble them to help you put them back together. You probally have gunk in your worm gear. Im an abu guy but diwa is probally the most recommended reel manufacturer on bass resource.
  9. Whats wrong with your abu's?
  10. I like a rage tail menace grub
  11. We shouldn't overlook that you need a sharp hook and the right hook set with a parabolic or moderate rod also at least floro c line to drive the hook in. I also sometimes fish a swim jig on my parabolic rod, the rod i speak of is a 7'6 mh duckett ghost. It took a lot of lost bass to learn how to land fish with single hook baits on that rod. And still would rather not fish swim jigs on it. My next rod purchase will be a shorter rod 6'10" to 7" with a more moderate action for chatter baits spinners ect. In other words it's going to take some time to figure out how to hook up fish with a traditional cranking type rod on chatterbaits.
  12. I've had great luck fishing a chatter bait with a rod that has a parabolic action.
  13. Looks cool too me as well. Never really finished a reservoir or an impoundment before. Looks tailor-made for some pre-spawn fishing with all the creek channels and flooded timber
  14. I definitely don't count to 3 or anything like that it's just a feeling gained from fishing frogs alot. I had the same problem with punching 1oz weights with strait shank hooks. I seem to do better if i give it a moment before i set. I think maby the fish dosent have its weight on the bait at the moment of the strike. If that make any sense.
  15. Pad crasher all day every day and twice on sunday. I think hook up ratio with frogs has far more to do with timing of the Hooksett than it does with rods. I do use the traditional 7 ft 3 in heavy fast action rod I see no reason why a heavier rod wouldn't work just as well especially in heavy slop or padfields.
  16. I don't think South Dakota will happen this year for me ice wont be out by apirl 26th. Im thinking about going to Iowa a lake called Brushy Creek lake. Has anyone heard of it?
  17. Love this tip. I watched a Gary Klein seminar on bass U and it really resonated with me. Find your oun fish don't listen to dock talk do your own work. Thats the way i have fished an i really think it has helped me become a better fisherman.
  18. Thanks guys i just fot comfortable with a BB last year and need some new ones because pike tear them up.
  19. I need some recommendations on a good buzz bait. Needs to cast good and have durability.
  20. It's ez to blame the bait or weather or the fish. It's hard to evaluate bad days on the water and realize it was lack of focus not working hard enough or not being willing to look for fish or patterns one may not be comfortable with. Thats why i have some tough outings.
  21. The whole high speed reel thing is kinda fishermen bait IMO
  22. I use the vmc weedless wacky 3/0 for dock skipping keeps me fron getting caught on chains and ropes ect under docks. Not good for heavy grass fishing
  23. Maps are the most important asset on my helix 7. I would much rather shell out 120 bucks for the lakemaster chip than mess around with my phone all day. Seems penny cheap pound foolish.
  24. Im a fan of lower gear ratio reels as well. I haven't noticed any benefits with reels faster than 7.1:1. But reel ratio is very preference based.
