  1. MasterBaitr - Thanks for this and to the rest for their valued input. Nice writeups.
  2. From October 7th - 2016 - Michigan DNR Fishing Report and todays water surface temp: Lake St. Clair: Yellow perch were caught with emerald shiners on perch rigs near Buoy 27. Perch and catfish were caught by those still-fishing or drifting in the same area. Walleye were caught by those jigging in 25 to 30 feet near the mouth of the South Channel. Muskie were caught near the spillway and smallmouth bass were taken in 8 feet near the mouth of the Middle Channel. On the north end, smallmouth bass were caught in 8 feet near Selfridge when casting crank baits. Those moving around had better luck. Largemouth and pike were caught in less than 10 feet in Bouvier Bay when casting crank baits or spinners. Walleye and drum were caught when jigging or trolling a crawler harness around Grassy Island. Surface Temperature on Lake St. Clair as of October 12-2016 is 57F. Large temperature drop as of this past week. see this link: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=45147
  3. very nice catch. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Bass fishing Michigan = Year Round. No can keep till May 28-Dec 31 for 2016 and May 27 to Dec 31 for 2017. And more see below:
  5. I am updating my original post on this: Original: After motor is in position, I squeeze bulb 2-4 times (bulb is firm but not rock hard). Primer is by turning key (then it beeps) push key forward to prime, hold for 2-4 seconds and turn key to start. I do have the throttle and sometimes use it on first start in the water. If I use throttle, I just raise it a little to increase RPM's after starting motor, then I move it back down all the way after a few seconds, wait a few more seconds for engine to return to idle speed then engage forward or reverse. I have had the low idle stall problem and have just returned it to my mechanic (he just did some work for me on the head that I could not do) for him to adjust. Hoping it is just a carburetor adjustment as I did not have the low idle stall issue beforehand. My gas is fresh with an ethanol additive. Note: I let the engine warm up before going into gear. Usually a minute or two. Corrections: Squeeze bulb till very firm. Turn key (get beep) push in key 2-3 times to prime by "squirting". Turn key. If it does not start - turn key and "crank over" motor. Once started, I raise throttle lever to increase RPM's and leave it there for a few minutes to warm up engine. I do not raise throttle arm all the way up and have the engine at very high RPM's during warm up. Lower throttle arm to home position. Wait for idle speed and then put in gear. My mechanic adjusted each of the two carbs with a 1/8 turn to get it running a little richer by rotating each carb screw counterclockwise. I realized after above post that I did not correctly state what I did during starting. Regards.
  6. nice catch and congratulations.
  7. new boat. or newer used. underwater camera. side imaging. catch more fish!
  8. Surface temp of local water is around 70F this past weekend. Moving into bays and shore somewhat. Some still out deep of course. Moving around alot.
  9. always like your vids Glenn.
  10. I have a 2 stroke, 4 cylinder, oil injected 40hp Mercury that is a 1991. After motor is in position, I squeeze bulb 2-4 times (bulb is firm but not rock hard). You can get the original Mercury owners manual online somewhere. I forget where I got mine. It has the recommended startup procedures along with recommended maintenance etc. Not bad to have as the WORD from Mercury.
  11. Hamma Hatch - Nice writing. I couldn't agree with you more. Especially what fall does to the senses and the pleasure craft are gone. It'slike spring fishing except it's fall!
  12. Look at lake st clair network and Michigan dnr fishing reports which come out on Thursdays. Yesterdays report stated the following: Lake St. Clair: Fishing was considerably slower for all species with limited success for bass, muskie, and walleye. Anglers found perch in front of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in 17 feet and near Buoy 17 when using golden shiners on perch rigs. The better perch fishing was out near Buoy 31 in 17 to 19 feet with emerald shiners on perch rigs. A few channel cats were caught in 12 to 15 feet off 9-Mile Road when drifting crawlers on the bottom. Most of the action on the north end was in the New Baltimore area, the channel straight out from the Brandenburg launch and around Grassy Island. Anglers caught pike in the New Baltimore Channel in 11 feet with blue and silver lures. Yellow perch and a few walleye were caught on jigs. Anglers drifting crawlers took smallmouth bass and perch near Grassy Island. Water temp is at 72F. Good luck.
  13. Good story. Chuckling.
  14. Nice Nitrofreak.
  15. MotorGuide Xi3 cable steer. Does take up room on the deck. But if alone, I can stretch the foot pedal back to the Captains chair. Do wish I could afford the remote (iPilot) and Spot Lock technology. The MotorGuide does repond well, can turn fast especially on high speeds; stows and deploys easily. Good Luck.
  16. Not very wide. I would believe very unstable for standing - especially with an added casting deck.
  17. Mostly wacky. Some T or Carolina rigs. Also Shaky Head.
  18. Thanks Glenn.
  19. fun to watch. Thanks for sharing these.
  20. Here in Michigan, I usually only use them in the fall in a fast, cold moving river area of the Pere Marquette for salmon. I use chest high breathables with felt soles. I usually wear jeans underneath and sometimes thermal underwear under the jeans with one or two layers of socks. Coat etc is as required. I like the breathables better than the rubber kind. Also, the felt soles are better should I step on any moss covered rocks as they are not as slippery as the rubber soled boots. Once in awhile I have to glue the sole back on. No big deal. Good luck.
  21. Try biminitopusa.com or nationalbiminitop.com Good luck
  22. Glenn has a good short video tip on this site about making sure your bunks are wet.
  23. Living in Southeastern Michigan the summer bitr has been tough. We fished yesterday (9-18-16) in Cass Lake in Oakland County. Tough day there too, but we had only 3 hours to fish. We tried topwater, crawlers, cranks, jigs, spinners, poppers, frogs, (no live shad though). My suggestion is like above, find the bait. Could be shallow, moving upwards from deep or secondary points OR could be deep or suspended. Cass Lake has massive 3 foot flats and pockets of 45-123 feet! Water temp was 75F. Still warm. Our best luck was shallow near reeds and grass line in late evening before sundown which is at 8pm now. Fish were in 3-4 feet of water there. Night crawlers and spinners gave us something. Best of luck.
