  1. TW gift card, some hats, and a Dewalt tackle box for swimbaits. Oh, and a 3 month subscription to MTB.
  2. Big C

    Swimbaits

    The purple ones are sick.
  3. Very good, sums it up nicely. I like how you said don't throw everything else out the window, just to start fishing jigs it's another tactic not THE tactic.
  4. WOW! They seriously know what they are doing. Probably won't do quite that much, but it gave me some good ideas to do it myself. Thanks for the recommendation.
  5. I like Big Hammer Swimtails (especially for trailers) and Berkeley Havoc Sick Fish. Those are the two I use most often.
  6. I'm always open to suggestions, that boat is going to be a work in progress for a little while.
  7. I wasn't a huge fan at first, but after spending a little more time with it I like the changes.
  8. Yup, two different rods. For the frog rod I would go 7'-7 1/2' MH-H Fast action 50lb braid, this could also double for some medium sized swimbaits, like the Mattlures U2 Bluegill. The other would be a 7' M fast action rod with 12lb. mono. this could be used for most topwater lures. I would always suggest a fast action or tapered rod for topwaters, the fast action will give you better control when you are snapping the rod tip for "walk the dog" techniques.
  9. A 12lb. bass would be a good second to a pot of gold!
  10. I don't have one of those "spaceship jon boats"...yet. I am going to re-do the deck with carpeted ply-wood, get another trolling motor for the front, and hopefully get some Bluewater LED's for the front deck. Putting in more money in accessories than the original price of the boat is half the fun.
  11. I learned how to use a bait caster with an ancient Abu Garcia, it was a black low-profile reel so it was probably 80's or 90's. I actually put it on a spinning rod my brother snagged out of the Apalachicola Bay. But, the salt water locked it up. I wish I still had it, if I did I would use it...on a proper rod though.
  12. Merry Christmas! Did you check that dock for a Leprechaun with a pot of gold?
  13. All right, honestly I was not a fan of the changes at first. But, after spending some time figuring it all out, the changes are awesome. I especially like the new way to see the first and last post of a thread, where you let the cursor hover over the topic header and you can take a peek at the content. And the new way to get to the first unread post in a thread by clicking on the green dot or star next to the topic. Nice job Glenn, you made some great improvements.
  14. His family photo album?
  15. It's a fairly local trail, it's called the "Dixie Jonboat Anglers". I think their "homebase" is in Athens. So it's all an hours drive form there.
  16. You should look for Jon Boat only tournaments. You might be able to find one. There's one around here that is "electric only jon boats". Can't wait for it to start next year!
  17. I am all for it. But...if it is to be deemed the "Outhouse" you are no longer the moderating team. You are Janitors.
  18. Yeah you can use it to make lures with. Is it ideal? No, it will make things harder. My dad made a couple with scrap 2X4's. You can use just about any type of wood the biggest thing that will change is the tools you use. For balsa sand paper will do a ton of the work for you. With 2X4's you'll probably need some rasps. I would suggest balsa, but if 2X4's is what you have go for it. As for sealing it once you have your blank with the weight in and wire or screw eyes in and ready for paint, put a coat of 30 min. 2 part epoxy on, paint, then seal that with a finish coat of epoxy. The first coat seals the wood and gives a base for the paint, the second coat protects the paint.
  19. Check out REI Outlet. Sometimes they have some serious closeouts. Tractor Supply Co. has 20% off all leather boots right now, at least in my local store they may have some online deals going too. DSG has $20 College hoodies.
  20. There's this stretch of lily pads I fish everytime I go to this particular lake during the summer. There's always some logs floating in it, usually I cast over them, reel the frog on it, and let the frog "jump" in the water. Well, this particular trip there was a new log about 5' off the bank, for some reason I didn't fish it or around it. When I got near it it wasn't a log, it was some weird dead animal. So I took my brother to it (we were in kayaks), he poked it with his paddle to get a better look at it. I don't know what that sucker was but it wasn't a dog, or cat. It was about 3' long, with a fat body, it had short kinda sparse black hair, and the creepiest face/ eyes I've ever seen. It looked kinda like a pig, dog, chubacabra mix. A couple days later we went to check it out, and it was gone.
  21. Especially with that mace duct taped to his hand.
  22. Just about the only thing that will get stuck on a Scum Frog is a bass.
  23. I am a big Daiwa reel guy too, I think you would have to go far to beat their quality for the money IMO. I also like me some Carrot Stix, it's hard to beat the Carrot Stix Daiwa combo, I have three combos of those brands, and they match up really nice. 1st set-up I would go for would be a Daiwa Fuego (I love the 8.1:1) on a 7' Medium Carrot Stix. This would be a good "All Around" combo. It could handle a pretty wide array of lures topwater, moving baits, jigs, ect. 2nd combo would be the Daiwa Lexa 6.3:1 gear ratio on a 7' 6" Heavy rod. Since you're in New Orleans, you should really look into a frog/swimbait rod. You are probably in an area with bigger fish and excess vegetation. So, I would suggest something you can throw frogs on, and medium swimbaits on (Hudd 68's/S-wavers).
  24. You know what the worst part about "that guy" is? He can throw his rod/reel in the truck, leave it in an ice storm get three inches of ice on it, drop it in the dirt leave it for a week, and have nothing break or get ruined. Those are real instances of what my brother has done, he crosses the line of unorganized to abuse. If I left my rods outside or dropped them as much as he does, my reels would be locked up and half my rods would be snapped in half.
