  1. I have the following baitcasting setups: Black Max with 6'9" MH Vengeance (my starter setup) Revo S with 7'0" Winch Veritas 2.0 (what I throw most of the time, which is crankbaits) Revo SX with 7'3" MH Veracity (I placed top bid at a charity event) And also a Spinning Cardinal STX on a 7' M Vengeance I bass fish for large and smallmouth. The problem I have is that the Veracity and Vengeance rods are so stiff they are really hard for me to cast consistently without backlashing. I'm still new to baitcasters; I got my first one about six months ago. My first question is how does the stiffness of the Veracity compare to it's rating? My second question is what abu garcia rod should I buy to replace the Veracity and fill out my selection of rods? Should I get a M fast 7' Veracity or Veritas 2.0? It would be decent all round and for topwater wouldn't it? I'm tempted to spend the extra for the Veracity just due to it matching so nicely with the Revo SX. If not for that, I would just get the Veritas 2.0. I plan to use my current Veracity as a worming, jig, frog rod with the black max until I upgrade the reel. I don't really do much of these types of fishing anyway. Thanks for any help.
  2. I saw all of the recommendations in other posts for big game and tried it. It works great and is really cheap. I use #15 but I'll try 12# next.
  3. I'll be taking my first trip to Guntersville next week for five days. We'll be staying in the honeycomb campground and plan to fish around there and also around Guntersville. Can anyone let me know any specific areas to target and what kind of baits the bass are hitting on? How clear is the water? I've been reading of a lot of people fishing weed lines with Rat-l-traps. Thanks for any information.
  4. I've searched but I can't find an answer to this. I know you can buy hooks with an integrated swivel but I'd like to use the roboworm rebarb hook and put a swivel somewhere above it. This would accomplish less line twisting and the ability to keep the rig already tied and I would just have to tie onto the swivel. Has anyone tried this? Any reason not to do it? Thanks
  5. I'm in Madison. We fish at Cedar Creek Lake. Now I'm starting to think about getting a 7'6" heavy for worming and flipping.
  6. Here in Kentucky we have a lot of weedy lakes with submerged timber. I'm a beginner with bass fishing so I'll be trying a lot of things out. With the weeds I like fishing a spinning bait just above them. I also figure I'll be using worms a lot in the weeds and submerged tree cover. Jigs and smaller swimbaits too. Maybe I'm wrong but crankbaits in weedy lakes would seem not to work as well as clear rocky bottoms.
  7. I fished as a kid a lot but not as an adult. I have a buddy at work who recently started taking me bass fishing on his boat and I have the bug. So far, this is what I have: an Abu Garcia Black Max on a MH 61/2' rod and a Cardinal STX20 on a M 61/2' rod. I just bought a Revo S reel and I'm trying to figure out what size and strength Veritas 2.0 rod to get that would complement what I have. I've leaned most towards a 7' MH since it seems to be a good all around but I somewhat have that covered with my Black Max. I want to use my Revo S as my main reel so I could get the MH and then change out the Black Max's rod later on to maybe a cranking rod or flipping rod. What would you get? Thanks for any replies.
