Getting back into the sport after not fishing for about 5 years.
Headed to BPS to renew my license and grab a basic setup, immediately caught a ~3lb’er at Loch Lomond in Santa Cruz.
Hopefully I’ll be a bit more active here again!
I've had a Veritas (first gen, no holes in the bottom of the grip) for 2 years now, not a single complaint. 7-Med. Medium is more of a medium heavy. EXTREMELY sensitive.
edit: I baby my stuff, bank fish, and have never talked with customer service. So if you have an issue, who knows how it'll go.
For $200, the arguably best setup you can get is:
Daiwa Tatula CT 6.3:1, $98 paired with a Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 7' Medium Fast (Model VRTCM70-5) for $68. (The rod is more of a medium-heavy). I have used both products listed here.
prices listed here are found on the auction site.
Hint: site name starts with an E.
Total is $166 after shipping. and that is a VERY nice combo, and will last you a while. You might even have some cash left over for baits/line!
Go with the Daiwa Fuego. The Caenan seems cheap feeling to me. Meanwhile the Fuego has an aluminum frame. (The Fuego is basically a Tatula CT without t-wing)
As for a rod, an Abu Garcia Veritas is a nice rod. Can be found relatively cheap when on sale. If you can't get that, I'd check Craigslist for a used rod.
