  1. On a quick Walmart trip picked up 3 lipless in my new favorite color. Excited to toss the spots as I have never thrown one before, RES is my current #1 lipless bait.
  2. Personally I need more plastics to fall apart to make room for all the baits the bait monkey makes me buy over the winter! What I have done instead of repairing lures is to use the broken bits for a different presentation. For example when a swim senko tears up I end up with a ned rig bait, and have used bits of finesse worms in the same way. Making up some crazy color combos or some different styles of baits could be fun though.
  3. The only areas I have fished mine are on sand flats with reeds. I have found that structure/cover to be a big fish magnet for all species. It is also overlooked by many. You could hook up with a PB Bass, Pike, or Musky tossing one of these.
  4. I did a little experiment once with Liquid Mayhem and panfish. I had a crappie slider rigged and tossed it over the side without moving it and watched gills come up and inspect it but not hit it. I then put the scent on and just let it sit and pretty much as soon as they saw it, smelled it the gills began to attack the bait. That changed my opinion on scents and I am guessing that the same behavior would be seen with megastrike. I had always held the belief that scents gave me an extra bit to set the hook, this told me it could also trigger a strike. This also happened to be the trip where we had a triple cold front and July am temps in the 30s. I found that probably 90% of my softbait bass came when there was visible scent on the bait, it was really tough to get a bite with an unscented bait. One thing that I have found is oily baits don't hold the gel scents as well as a drier plastic. That you are finding worn plastics hold it better makes me think that might be happening to you. When I get a batch of really oily plastics I rinse it off and let them dry and put them in a different bag or straight into a plano.
  5. It's awesome stuff, watched my father in law go fish less while I was catching them in the north woods for an hour this summer till I convinced him to try some, five minutes later fish on.
  6. Does anyone know what the jig skirt websites BF deal usually is? I have about 90 bucks worth of material I am thinking about getting.
  7. I have tossed slider crappie baits in a similar situation and done really well. The size and profile matches the forage pretty well.
  8. I actually rinse the overly oily baits in the sink and dry them. After that I store them in plano boxes laying them in neatly so they don't take a funky bend if they sit in there for years. I actually like plastics that aren't as oily because they hold scent longer when it is applied. I have many plastics stored this way that have to be over 15 years old and they are like new.
  9. For a decent spinning setup I have been using the same ugly stick for years, is it perfect, no, does it catch a lot of fish heck yes. I usually pair it with a 30ish dollar range Shakespeare 3-5 bearing spinning reel. I have a couple of excursions and a catera that I have used pretty hard for at least 7 years with 0 issues. I have also had a couple of mid range Daiwas that have failed within a couple of years during that time. Can't really help on the crankbaits, Bandits used to be cheap, but not any more. What I do is watch cabelas, I have picked up a lot of baits real cheap there over the years, they appear to randomly clear out certain colors and you just have to keep looking or get lucky and find the deals.
  10. Not that I have found, I regularly leave it on cranks and soft plastics after a trip. I do have a scatter rap crank that does have a red tint to it now, but other than that have seen no issues. Curious how it exploded? did it get crushed or some other way. For getting it off baits I have just run it under warm water. The only down side to that with the tools is that you should reoil them after they are cleaned up. The simple green to get what the water rinse didn't sounds like a good idea. For the bag I would handwash it in a sink, that stuff is seriously strong and I wouldn't want it going through the washer even without clothes. Hopefully you were able to salvage some, it is really good stuff.
  11. Anglers Choice Wart Hawg cut in half and rigged Ned style, thinner profile and of course a 1/2 Zinkerz. Anglers Choice Killshot on a slider jig or finesse swim jig. Of course a tube crushed it yet again, sometimes the tried and true is still #1.
  12. I am hoping to do my first order from the site tonight, have some baits I have been looking for and some common baits I use at dirt cheap prices. Are they pretty quick on turning around orders?
  13. I fish some sand flats with pockets of reeds on them. When moving between reed beds I always toss either a square bill, shallow swim bait, or of course the lipless. While not a high percentage play because most of the fish stay in contact with the reeds, I have caught enough bass and hooked up with enough Musky to make it worthwhile. One thing to think of too, is that since you are moving relatively quick to cover water, most softbaits and jerkbaits don't work well for this. While not a crank spinnerbaits would do well for this too.
  14. I would go a different color completely thinking they short striked the other color for a reason with soft baits and a different crank type if tossing them. For example when fishing tubes or grubs I will have other color options tied on another stick. With square bills I might have a lipless tied on another rod, and the reverse applies too. I might even have different SBs that push more or less water, like an Xcalibur and a Bandit for example. For me color is less important on cranks because they are reaction baits and why I lean to a different style. With soft plastics color is a bigger deal because they are generally worked slower. We see the throwback lure come into play a lot with Muskies, this summer my FIL had a follow on a scatter crank, and I tossed a RES to the area it went when it turned away and hooked up and landed the fish.
  15. Mine were tearing up where the hook point comes out, one did rip on the first fish, but got a bunch more, the next few I wasn't as lucky, I wish they had torn at the head. I think if they were used on a swim jig I wouldn't see the issue, texas rigging can be hard on baits.
  16. Has anyone tried any loctite around the area where the hook goes through to strengthen it? The only disappointment with the bait was the body tore up pretty quickly when T rigged, I had thought the flappers with fail first or get yanked of buy hungry panfish.
  17. They are such a blast to land, there is no quit in them, thought I had one tired out and put the net under her and she just about jumped in the boat trying to jump out of the net. This summer I had a pike and a Muskie jump out of the water boat side attempting to eat my RES. Personally I go all braid on my jig, crank, and jerkbait rods. I know fish all my jerkbaits with steel leaders after losing 2 scatter raps to nice musky. I have caught numerous pike and and a big musky on jigs only breaking off a few. I think where braid comes in handy, is with the hookset, I have lost a lot of fish because the slider jig would just not set in their mouth, have had better hooking percentage with swim jigs. Well I guess to the OPs original question slider jigs don't land a lot of pike so that would be one way to avoid at least some them. I like others enjoy catching the occasional toothy predator.
  18. Last summer I was using some Swing Oil J tubes and getting over 10 fish a tube, but they are a small website and I don't know of any stores that carry them. Other then that I used some Yum tubes I picked up on vacation last year and they held up real nice, I think you can sometimes even find random colors in the wally world Yum discount boxes.
  19. I fished them on a slider spider classic head which has a 3/0 light wire hook and had no issues. Would agree with the PP, and you could try some gel scent on the nose of the bait to the hookpoint to see if you could get the fish to target the head of the bait instead of the tail.
  20. Go with Firetiger, and ignore the clear water must use natural Shad colored bait talk. If you have pumpkinseed or perch swimming in your waters, than Firetiger is a natural colored bait for your body of water. I grew up on a lake that clear and fish another clear lake 1 week a year and Firetiger is my #1 crank color especially with deep divers. Also with cranks it is the illusion of color since they move reasonably quick, I like a green back chartreuse belly DT series crank and Chartreuse sexy colored cranks because they give off a similar pumpkinseed perch color pattern when retrieved.
  21. I am tempted to try it with a cheap 5 weight I had set up for a small creek, but realistically anything above 15" will probably just break off. Doesn't hurt to try lol.
  22. I did see that they have the rapala weedless shad, that is very tempting to pick up one or ten of.
  23. So I went with the fact that the site showed up as *** as a bad sign and will forever be on the lookout for table rock red finesse worms:)
  24. That's not always true, I was given a bit of a hard time when I asked about 2 online retailers, one did happen to be a ***, but I wanted to know why because they were the only retailer that I could find that still had a specific NetBait finesse worm color in stock and if other than spamming that they filled orders in a timely manner. I am sure my name is dirt with one of the mods;) I almost left the boards because of it, in fact if that mod ever reads my reply where I asked for my account to be closed I could be gone just like that poof;)
  25. I am with you, I have fished pretty much every technique with a spinning reel in my time. I have found that a baitcaster is easier to use with cranks due to gear ratios and the handle reels fast easier, but that doesn't stop me from only using a spinning reel/rod when bank fishing tossing everything from plastics to cranks on the same spinning stick and catch a mess of fish while I am at it. I may miss a few because the rod is not perfect for the lure, but since I am out there to just have fun, it is much easier to carry one stick vs 4 especially if I wade in.
