  1. The Menace grub worked for me on a slider head. Only issue I had was it tore much easier than other baits where the hook went through the body. Caught a bunch of fish, just wish the body, non action part of the bait, was more durable.
  2. Hadn't heard that Pure Fishing was sold off, but in my opinion, Berkley was very far down on the list before I would by one of there products. Not because they are bad, I just see others as better options for my fishing, except when it comes to line.
  3. Anybody else not finding a reason to order from the 25 days sale or am I the only one? Too bad that the last day of extra percent off wouldn't count against the stuff they marked down for this sale;) This is a first for me though, maybe something on the remaining days will do it.
  4. My grandpa got me started on pickled herring, awesome stuff, then I got married and my wife can't stand it. Once in a great while I will buy a jar and keep it in the fridge at work to get my fix.
  5. I like your idea, as it allows you to multi task with the box. Another option I have used when the boxes were taking up too much space was to use some old Tackle Logic bags to carry them in. I went without the rings to hold the bags in, but on a yak I would use the rings. I also used the standard bags not the spinnerbait specific, because I can carry more this way without flexing the frames. In the off season they are stored in the gigantic hydro flo box. Only downside similar to a box is they need to be put away dry in the bags.
  6. Lucky Craft Sammy, when I used to frequent a forum on River Smallie fishing, this was the one bait you must have, to this day I have yet to splurge and purchase one.
  7. I had forgotten that I picked these out for my wife to put in my Xmas stocking. No clue if they are good bad or other, it was just that the two paint schemes were similar to the RESs that worked for me last year.
  8. Lots of SK and Gambler baits with the extra bit off. Some new Zman colors and baits. Red cranks were a theme for me after success with them last year. Lots of skirt material to make up some Clearwater swim jigs. Also got some traps and a couple of Echos to round it out. The arishi vibe does look interesting. Now need to wait and see if a good enough reason to order pops on the 25 days sale.
  9. I have a couple of the elites and now longer use them, nice but can't fit as many cranks in as the pro latch. I just rubber band the trebles together and they are easy to get out of the box. The only reason for the elite style box is if you have cranks where you are concerned about the paint getting jacked up from trebles rubbing against them.
  10. T-minus 6 hours to get my Black Friday order.
  11. If I use a new wacky tool and o rings, will the O ring and the Zinkerz react? I know the Zinkerz are tough as nails, but think the O ring rig would make them last longer especially since I have seen the hook point area rip s bit on the Ned rig.
  12. I have been using 10# fireline on my spinning reels for years with light baits with very few issues. The line handles well and casts well with all kinds of baits. I do fish the Ned rig on fireline a lot. I also don't use a leader, I have never seen a scenario where it got me more bites so I stopped wasting my time tying one on. Honestly I haven't seen a line that handles heavy wind well with a lighter bait. Only options I have found is to deal with it or fish heavier baits. One note on fireline, it might be a bit stiff initially, but it will soften quickly with use. Also don't worry when it changes color, it doesn't impact the line negatively.
  13. Not sure, but I have always thought theirs were the nastiest smelling baits out there, but I'm not a fish so my opinion doesn't count for much.
  14. For bank fishing I agree there is really no best way, because we all fish differently. For me I go with a 3500 size bag and carry a small box of 5 cranks, a second box with rigged plastics, and a third box with rigged Zman baits. Also in there is my scent, pliers, hook cutter, extra snaps, a cutter and lip gripper. That is it for me. If you need more gear a backpack should work and you can still be very mobile.
  15. For Christmas my wife got me a TW hoodie and hat to go with the gift card she got me. She really surprised me though with some mudbug big TRDs, after I had made a comment that it was supposed to be the hot color. I never would have bought the big TRDs myself, but now that I see them I really like the looks of them. I did great with a 1/2 Zinkerz slider combo on docks last year, the big TRD looks to be the perfect size for this and should have killer action with the extra length past the hook.
  16. Gotta be a tube, have caught them deep, shallow, docks, cold, warm, you get the idea since I started bass fishing. Other baits have come and gone for me, but the tube is always there. A very close second is a 3 to 5" grub, preferably a kalins, pretty much same deal as the tube maybe a touch less versatile.
  17. Thanks for the ideas. I actually think I have the pure fishing leader you are speaking of. In the picture is that leader, a silver 21 strand 100 lb test leader with 50 lb power pro in the middle. The shadow rap shad is in the picture to give an idea of the snap size. The 21 strand leader will be for Musky baits and RESs as long as the snap doesn't mess with the action. The pure fishing leader might be a winner. I do do wish the pure fishing leader was a bit longer, musky, like smallies, know they are bad**** and run you under the boat, jump, change directions, and are just plain nuts. Beyond the initial bite the will saw you off depending on how they took the bait. Lt. of fun though, I do better bass fishing for them than tossing musky lures.
  18. I think the biggest problem with a lot of leaders is the size of snaps, it isn't easy to find a quality leader with a smaller snap. That is the draw to the fastech one posted above, the snap looks to be about the same size I normally use.
  19. I am going to give big game a try next year, but do have to say that 50 lb power pro, 832, and fireline have been very economical for me over the years. They are tough as nails and seem to last forever without degrading. It just stinks if you have to toss new line out do to operator error;)
  20. This happened to be fireline so I was pretty safe, but had it been mono or flouro, it would have been dumped. That is a hard one to answer, if I think about it that way, time spent value, probably not worth it. The big but here is that my wife keeps the books and the new spool of fireline would come out of my tackle budget, so now I see more gear in my future so all is good. Unfortunately my earning power goes to negative numbers when I walk in the door at home;) If the line were older I would pitch it, knowing that this was basically new line did help to make it worth it, the base layers still had the stiffness that unbroken in fireline has.
  21. I had a reel that was very low on line to the point I was casting into the backing. Well since I have 2 of the same reel, I unfortunately unspooled the wrong one onto the floor into a big tangled mess. 1-2 hours later it is untangled, partially by wrapping it onto another spool. A. should I have just cut my losses and cut off this mess or did I do the right thing, the line was new this year. B. The spool I wrapped this onto, was from a reel that is junked, has the old pink fireline on it that is white where it was used the most, but pretty pink;) underneath so I am now thinking of respooling the other reel with this line. Am I being overly cheap or just smart?
  22. I like that, wonder if they are still available now that Mustad is selling the clips? I do have some lighter wire, not titanium leaders I may try close to the boat and see what difference it truly makes in the bait. I just don't believe in heavy flourocarbon leaders. Growing up fishing a gin clear lake and catching pressured fish on good old trilene solar XT line, incredible stuff in its day, taught me that line color is pretty much all hype. Further testing with fireline and braid on other clear lakes with and without a flouro leader is enough evidence for me.
  23. Man I have bit to the point that I have a 90, 130, and 190 and I have yet to land a bass or musky on one. I had one hit on the 90 at the start of a retrieve as it was surfacing, but that is it. Next year maybe, topwater has never been my thing.
  24. My guess is you have fished the area;) pm me if truly interested. And Delavan over Geneva? I grew up down there and remember when they completely drained Delavan. Just wish I had fished more when I was a kid with Geneva 3 minutes from my house.
  25. Fish it a lot in current allowing it to be swept downstream slowly realing it in to keep the line tight so they don't swallow it. Also have fished a 1/2 zinker on a slider head around docks and did really well.
