  1. While most of their baits are more than I would normally pay for plastics, the Helgripede looks intriguing. It does look fragile though. How do you rig it and will it hold up to multiple fish?
  2. If you can still find one of these on the shelf, walleye trolling guys swore by these, even pulling planer boards. I got one before they were discontinued. Ugly Stik CAL 1100 or 1102(depends on handle) 7'er in medium action
  3. I generally by mid level brands, Rapala, Bandit, Strike King, and Norman cranks and really haven't found a reason to swap out the hooks. If I tourney fished I might on the baits that would be in the boat, but not on all due to the cost of switching. About the only hooks I change out are when you get a bait with the cheap silver hooks that just look dull, but I buy very few cranks that have those anymore.
  4. I pre tie my stuff, c rigs, DS, walleye spins, etc and put them in small ziploc style bags for medicine that can be found at Walgreens near the pill boxes. I then store these in fly fishing leader wallets, I really like the Orvis ones.
  5. This is where preference comes in, I got a good deal on a couple of the Clunn rods and love the square bill model. The action works well for casting and has enough give to limit my hard snags fishing rocky stretches on rivers. It has been my go to stick. The 8 foot model doesn't get a lot of use, because I haven't been fishing deep divers very much.
  6. I have never seen a plastic other than gulp dry out. I actually will rinse off the stock scent and salt on some baits that have way too much out of the bag. The reason I do this is so that the and oil don't trash the box and most importantly, the gel scent I use then sticks to the bait better. I have also had Zoom baits come out of the package totally dry and dripping in oil, there doesn't seem to be a pattern with them. Seen similar issues with Yum baits too, especially with salt in the bag. I do the same, because bulk storage in planos can tackle up a lot of space, but for on the water they work out awesome for carrying lots of styles and colors. I store the reserves in gallon bags like others and put them in a drawer. Next house will have a tackle room:)
  7. My wife picked up some for me, I wouldn't have, but I am looking forward to trying them next year. I tried 1/2 a Zinkerz on a Charlie Brewer slider head around docks last year and did really well. The only downside was that there wasn't a lot of bait behind the hook. I think the big TRD will be the ticket for this next year.
  8. I too have had some plastics in planos for at least 10 years without issue. The bonus of the boxes versus the bags is that you can make sure the plastics don't get a semi permanent bend like they sometimes do in the bags. Yes it takes time to set them nicely in the box, but it is worth the little bit of extra time in the long run.
  9. I will chime in as a mostly lower end gear user. My best combo is a Daiwa Viento paired with a Cabela's prodigy rod. My best spinning rod set up is a St. Croix premier with an older Daiwa Regal Z (now retired) or a St. Croix Eyecon. What are my workhorse setups, older Quantam Accurists for BC with either one of those ugly blue Rick Clunn SB, 20 year old lightning rod, or a 20 year old Pinnacle rod. I do have 2 other prodigys but don't use them much. With the BC setups I really don't feel that I lose anything, especially cranking, as the glass rod may actually help me out there. Maybe jig fishing a higher end rod might get me a bit more feel, but I don't feel handicapped by my setups here. Spinning rod rod workhorse is a 2 piece 6'6" ugly stick with a 10plus year old Shakespeare Excursion reel. As for the reel, it works, drag is adequate for bass and the occasional toothy critter. Here I will say the St. Croix rods do give me more feel, and it is debatable on whether I lose fish due to this or not as I catch a bunch on both rigs. I will admit I may miss a light bite or two from time to time with the ugly. The key for me is using braid on the BCs and Fireline on the spinning rods. That makes up for a less sensitive rod to a point. Will be be curious on others opinions, I have always thought that for bass fishing the gains in the higher end aren't worth the cost. If you want to talk fly rods, that is where a better stick makes a huge difference, but that is because the rod does all the work casting. Typing on an iPad is glacial lol, a bunch of you guys snuck in while I was typing lol
  10. Looks like none of the 25 days stuff that was in the sale list got marked off anymore. Will do a minimum order to get free shipping, but still not a lot jumped out for me other than some terminal tackle. Not sure if it is me being picky, or if it is the items being offered. This is year it felt like they put more slow moving product out vs other years they had some favorites, especially they Berkley stuff.
  11. Those are really nice as well. I ended up staying away from them because I use the Plano guide series 4700 double decker boxes to store my baits which wouldn't fit. I also have a very tolerant wife that let me put a bookshelf in our master bedroom closet to store my tackle on:) I do like the look of that, it would look nice in a tackle room, their logo actually adds a coolness to it.
  12. Anglers choice is out of Canada, but TW carries their baits. Ordering direct is a good deal though with the exchange rate right now, site lists prices in Canadian funds. They also have more color options. The sliders I use are the Charlie Brewer classic spider heads.
  13. We were doing some after Christmas sale shopping at Menards and I picked this up for 25 bucks. Seems to work pretty good and beats the system I was using to store them before I picked this up. Not sure if this was a local deal or if all their stores have them.
  14. Yes and I love them. I haven't used them as a drop shot bait though. I mostly fish the 4" killshot on a slider head and really like the action. I also used them on the back of a Santone finesse swim jig, has a decent sized hook, with good results to. The body design with the ribs really holds gel scents well. They are pretty durable too. I know guys thay swear by them with a DS, that just isn't a technique I use too often.
  15. Got a few anglers choice soft plastics, Stuttersteps (really excited to try these), RESs, and another 90 sized plopper. Then I went to DSG with my 20 buck reward and picked up the goofy duck, wouldn't pay cash for it but no loss this way, and a squarebill in DB Craw which I like, hope the fish do. If anything I am going to practice the flip and rip with the duck to simulate a duck landing to scare the crap out of my boat mates as they are reeling in. A couple times of that will make it worth it, fish will be a bonus. Is that an Evilution?
  16. Just read on the TW forum that GY discontinued bulk packs.
  17. Anglers Choice out of Canada has 25 packs in most baits and 100 packs in at least 1 bait. Prices on the site are in Canadian so you actually end up paying less.
  18. Before I say gimmick, I want to give them a toss. They definately thought outside of the box and came up with something different. I am guessing that the first offset worm hooks were seen as a gimmick too. To me different doesn't mean gimmick, could be, but could also be innovation. I signed up for the freebie as well and will pick up a pack to try when I do my next TW order.
  19. For me I start by changing colors due to the limited light and the chop breaking up the light even more. I may have to shy away from finesse presentations due to the wind making the line unmanageable. I did find a workaround for this if you allow the boat to drift, you can cast finesse presentations with the drift and the line is manageable since it is blowing straight and with the way you are fishing. This of course only works if you can drift and still cover the area you want. I don't generally change the type of lure I use on that body of water wind or no wind they seem to whack the same baits. I have fished a drop shot in 6 fow in 20 mph winds. So basically change colors and up the weight of the lures if the line becomes unmanageable in the wind.
  20. Lipless baits. Easy to chuck and wind and just about any fish in the lake will grab them.
  21. Sweet, not a lot got me interested this year, but if a couple of items make it to Sunday I may just have to place an order.
  22. So do you guys know how that extra 25% off on the last day works? Some of the 25 days items are on the sale page, but most aren't. Is the expectation that those on the sale page will drop 25% more?
  23. The now out of production Netbait slim shake, that thing was tough as nails and caught a lot of fish.
  24. Does anyone have the latest 5$ off code for TW? I have seen it floating around, just not sure where to look.
  25. Who knows maybe Pradco will continue its buying spree. Feel bad for the pros if this is true, could really shake up FLW and the Elites. Hopefully this his train gets back on track, sorry for aiding in the derailment;)
