  1. I was trying to reply to a thread thinking I was logged in, and there was one of those smart capture, put the puzzle together, in the same wire frame as the submit button. It was weird because it also let me multi quote too. When I did the puzzle and tried to submit, it of course failed and I realized I was logged out. What gives? this was a tad confusing, because it actually looks like you are logged in. I posting as a guest isn't allowed would have expected the submit button and quote features to be greyed out or the create an account or sign in message to be listed at the bottom of a thread. I saw this both on PC and iPad.
  2. Deleted and added below Because this lure style has been around for so long, hard to believe there would be any patents remaining around the design. I did break down and get 2 Choppos to try, but the is well short of the 4 110s and 6 75s whopper ploppers I picked up. Excited to get the 75s on the water, reviews have been great.
  3. Since I use slider heads or similar styled heads I keep them on the hooks and store them in open containers on the boat deck to stay dry. This works well and saves me time rigging up baits when I am on the water. Since I am budget minded I don’t waste any baits either this way. If I had to waste a bait to change colors or styles I would be less likely to change it out.
  4. The one thing we shouldn’t forget is that the standard brands that are in the 6 to 10 buck range have some great lures in there. The Bandit 100 for example has caught me more fish than all other cranks combined. They are consistent too, never had one not catch fish. Spending more obviously doesn’t mean catching more. That said I stay away from the ultra cheap store brand cranks, they have always had issues with running straight and catching fish.
  5. River fishing, toothy critters, and a medium sized budget keep me from jumping into the high cost lure market. Right now now I tend to go with brands like Bandit, Norman, Strike King, Rapala, and then dabble with other brands to see if they make the rotation. These lures catch a lot of fish for me. That said while I don’t agree with some about the quality of SK baits, their lineup has some duds for me. The 1.5 and 2.5 square bills just don’t catch fish for me. The RES however is a Magic bait for me. I do have a nice collection of whopper ploppers but also got them on sale, so not that big of hit to the budget. Jerkbaits get carried away by Musky so no Vision 110s for me. Some jerkbaits don’t even last a handful of casts.
  6. Lurenet has some war eagle spinner baits for 2.29 and 2.99 and I also picked up s Lindy rod tote to carry my combos down to the boat when on vacation. Free shipping is at 25
  7. Thanks for this, was able to fill out my easter basket with some power pro, trokar hooks, and some ploppers in the 75 size that seem to be really popular. Thought about the XT, but I already have a spool of 10 lb big game for my backing line, so 2000 yards more wasn't going ot get used anytime soon, great deal, but thankfully I kept myself from adding it to the cart.
  8. I fish them on a slider spider head mostly so that I can fish them in snaggy water. To the OP I have been using Kalins grub for many years and have tried others, but they can't match the slow retrieve tail action of a Kalins. They also hold up really well too.
  9. Then for crank I go with the trusty Bandit 100 and I think I have the hat trick;) although looks like the op is just looking for plastics.
  10. For me it would be a 1/4 ounce slider pro spider head and a 3.5" Water Red Tube. Close second would be the same slider head and a 5" Kalins Ron's craw grub. Both baits and colors catch em in all water colors I have encountered.
  11. I have way to many ploppers for my lack of topwater skills. I just never know when is a good time to toss them and give up too quickly to go back to what I know. Once I figure it out I want to check out some of the smaller Musky options, there are some pretty cool but pricey designs out there.
  12. Did well with the lurenet sale and picked up a years supply of Bandit 100s.
  13. I got the Lunkers love nightcrawlers, it is a great read. That and the slider fishin book are my favorites. The infisherman series are ok, but don't touch those two books.
  14. Really like the cabelas advanced angler bags. Have the super ridiculously giant one, 3600, and 3500 ones too. Always liked the BPS tender tubes, super soft, but last time I looked they were no longer a good deal compared to other tubes. For me that is probably about it for the house brand stuff.
  15. I got free shipping, but missed out on the code. It is a great color, and with as many as I go through great price. Lurenet raising the price has had me scrambling for deals like this. I grabbed a spinning rod so I won’t have to bring my ugly sticks in the boat anymore. The ugly sticks just stay in the truck now for shore fishing opportunities.
  16. The new ones are just ok, a bit heavier than I like, have the 3500 size for terminal tackle, but the old style ones I have are so much better. I don’t understand the strap on the top, I will never use it. The one thing for me that is a must is the waterproof bottom, nothing is worse than a soggy bottomed bag that helps promote rust in all your gear. I also fish at sun up when there is a lot of moisture on deck.
  17. I thank you, my wife not so much lol. I now have 14 Bandit 100s in Mad Cow ordered. Sad to see my favorite color being discontinued, but for under 28 bucks this is an awesome deal.
  18. Pretty soon I will have a Dobyns Sierra 692 in hand. Really looking forward to this and it should pair nicely with the slider heads I toss all the time. Also ordered a couple of Berkley Warpigs to try out along with a couple of bags of ugly otters and a bag of cane thumpers that I had removed from my cart the last 3 years, figured it was time lol.
  19. It was interesting while unspooling my 2 accurists. One with 50 lb power pro only had 35 yards on it, it now has 60 of 30 lb 832. The second had 65 yds of 30 lb 832 which I ended up flipping since it had a fair bit of use. Still have one other reel to check out. If it has at least 50 yards of 30 lb 832 on it I will flip it and call it good or it gets new line and backing.
  20. I could have done the math but would have needed to use the line counter wth the big game, but this method was easy enough and honestly being the off season here gives me something to do and still think about being on the water next year.
  21. To clarify the line used was 30 lb suffix 832 for 2 reels and 30 lb suffix performance braid for the 3rd. For me 60 yards is more than any of my other baitcasters and I have never had a reel get to the backing. When I flip the braid on my other reels I might post the numbers of what is actually left on there. My Lews crush had 50 yards of 50 lb power pro on it. Definetly a winter topic, that I never expected such a debate on. @Delaware Valley Tackle Definitely made me feel better about my line length choice. Tom I would hazard a guess that you do a lot of deep water fishing? I rarely target bass deeper than 13 to 20 feet depending on the weed edge. Walleye trolling is where I put out the most line.
  22. You would cringe at my deep 3700 box of cranks I take for a weeks vacation. In some compartments I will have over 20 baits in it. The rubber bands do make it really easy to get a bait out of that mess. How about the Lure Lock boxes or the retro kits they sell? Plano used to sell a cds box, but one only came with 12 angled and 24 straight dividers. Found this on amazon, but not planos website so they may have been discontinued.
  23. Really don't want to argue this, but would you agree that 10lb XT is noticeably thinner than 20 lb xt? There is only 4 thousandths of an inch difference, but at least to me it is noticeable.
  24. So am I reading this correctly that you carry a 3700 box of just topwater baiit, etc? Is the box tightly packed with baits or do you have it one bait per section. If it is one bait per section using rubber bands to hold the trebles together as someone else suggested would allow you to easily store multiple pairs per section. To me that sounds like a lot of baits for a day trip, perhaps 1/2 box topwaters, 1/2 box of lipless, etc. Also I would think about what is packed now and when was the last time you used it? You might find that you never use some baits. If you don’t want to cut back, at some point your only option is a bigger bag. Do take a look at the plano 4700 double decker box, might work for you.
  25. No but it is interesting that small of a difference in diameter is an extra 3lbs in breaking strength. A wanna be engineer, I test the stuff they make, but my instincts are pretty good as to guessing/suggesting what the design changes should be. If I could do life over I would study to be an engineer.
