  1. Or a more expensive reel;) There is a huge difference in cast control between a Lews crush, and the 60 buck Lews Mark rose model I got on sale. The Crush is very difficult to backlash, almost have to try, where as the cheaper model actually takes some skill not to backlash even with heavier lures. Daiwa also has great spool control and are fairly easy to cast, even in some of their cheaper models.
  2. Not sure where your accuracy issue lies, but for distance control I keep my free hand near the spool and feather the line with my hand to slow the cast down and then put my hand down to stop it, similar to using your thumb with a baitcaster. As far as the timing of when to cut the line loose on the casting motion, not sure how that is learned. When I was a kid I used a lot of spincast reels and then spinning reels. Baitcasters weren't until later in life when I really got back into fishing. Their is a timing aspect with baitcasters, but it seems a different beast than spinning reels.
  3. Unfortunately the pic came in upside down, but I thought I ordered the 1x 2x short mustard hooks you suggested, but looking at them, they are only slightly shorter than the gamakatsu standards. Did they send me the wrong ones? Just checked the part numbers on the mustads and they match the site at least. That Jackall perch pattern is amazing. They have just the right amount of orange, most companies overdue the orange.
  4. Well I got my 25 days order and thanks to @A-Jay advice I got some more trebles. Unfortunately the Gamakatsu ones he suggested were sold out so I got some standard EWG trebles to try. as for the jerkbaits, since I became proficient with them last year, I picked up a bunch of the shadow rap series on an earlier sale, and took advantage of the 25 days sale to add some higher ticket jerks. How come when we become proficient at a tactic do we need to add like 30 more baits to our boxes???
  5. I have every size, 3500 up to the super ridiculous which ended up being too much. Getting it into the boat when it was on the trailer was a two person job. The magnum is my vacation bag now, 3500 is the river bag, and the 3600 has pvc pipes in it to make a hanging bait bag. A deep 3600 box sits on top of the pipes to hold more tackle. They are great bags and seem to hold up really well. Only complaint is the 3500 bag doesn’t have the waterproof bottom for boat trips with wet carpet. They also go on sale fairly often as well.
  6. I haven’t but should do that some time. Started throwing pulse jrs on the smaller swim jigs and one of the smaller rage swimmers, about the same size as the pulse jr. I do have a medium heavy spin rod as well I could use. Surprised/not surprised that spinning rods always get thought of as finesse only. For years they have been my workhorse plastic / crank bait river rods and easily hold up to big toothy critters and smallies. I just like how you can drop lighter plastics more vertical with a spinning reel vs a BC, I fish a lot of vertical cover. I use a BC a lot but have been finding I like spinning rods for more and more presentations.
  7. I just went and watched some gopro footage I had from vacation to see how I set the hook with with an egg beater. Turns out I do the cross body lean with both styles. Guessing I rarely high stick a fish. As for the baitcaster, I have some reels that can likely handle that light of jig, but pitching a 1/4 ounce jig on a MH moderate setup 20 to 30 feet gives me some concerns for a nasty backlash or 3 and being able to drop the jig on a dime. Fan casting a flat would be fine though. I do throw a variety of swim jig brands but the Santone Rayburn is my favorite. The ones I was tossing last year had a less beefy hook than the Santone. I will likely toy around with both next year and see how it works out and whether the spinning rod can get a good hookset. I think on flats I will stick with the baitcaster, the target fishing is where the experimenting will happen. I like this time of year, because you can think back and figure out what did and didn't work and then plan for next seasons fishing.
  8. For most of my soft plastic fishing where I use 3/16 and 1/4 ounce sliders and 1/4 ounce to 1/2 ounce swing jigs I use a medium or medium light spinning rod and have had great success. Last year I grabbed a 1/4 ounce swim jig and decided to rig it up on the spinning rod to save some time rigging it up and figured it would pitch with a little better accuracy than with a BC. To my surprise this worked out well for me. Is there any downside to fishing 3/16 - 5/16 ounce swim jigs on medium action spinning gear?
  9. I now have one on backorder too. My thoughts are as long as I have it by the season opener in May all is good. But would love to have it sooner to be able to arrange and rearrange the jigs multiple times before said opener;)
  10. You could look at a float tube and waders to stay dry. A lot of fly fishers use them out west.
  11. In case anyone has orders left to place, this code is active and working.
  12. Kind of excited about my TW order, will post pics when I get it. Ordered 5 Ima Flits, 3 Jackall Reranges, 2 6th sense provoke 106x jerks, some trebles and the Edge jig box which is back ordered. Trying to step up my jerkbait game a bit.
  13. Watch the lurenet specials page. Have gotten some good deals on there, like 2 bucks for Mad cow bandit 100s (assume color went away) and some war eagle spinnerbaits. Perhaps these baits will make it on the sale page as well soon.
  14. I always have a few, I just never ended up pulling them out much last year. I got like 200 Producto tourney grubs for christmas, caught a few fish on them on a ned head and then went the Menace ugly otter route never tossing them again. The menace was amazing, I was even catching brown trout on them this year. I just need to remember to be more versatile and not key in on one or two soft baits when I have many I have confidence in.
  15. Ned rig! This started last year and will continue this year. In the past few years I threw it so much that I forgot to toss baits that could have caught them better. Now I will start with the other baits and only if I have to will I go to the ultra finesse ned. Last year it rarely happened.
  16. I will go with the stout hooks, the lake I will jerkbait fish the most has a healthy population of plus size brown bass that I really want to tap into next year. The bummer is they are post spawn when we get to the vacation lake for a week so I need to figure out where they go. I mainly fish reed beds for largemouth on this lake but get a few nice smallies each year. Jerkbaits work really well around reeds.
  17. Thank you for the awesome answer! One question on the jerkbait hooks, do I really need the nano finesse or just stick with the hooks you listed. Hoping my next TW order will get me some jerks in between a shadow rap and Megabass price wise.
  18. Need opinions on which are better, round or ewg, for trebles on cranks, mostly square bills and lipless? Looking to stock up because I never buy terminal tackle instead of gear which means I have some baits that need new hooks. Getting some Nano finesse trebles for jerkbaits.
  19. Menace grubs. I went through a few this year. As far as losing baits I lost a crank and an in-line spinner to the trees. Was a pretty good year for not losing baits.
  20. Looking like I am getting one next week. Thanks for the info. The way it will fit in my bag it will be flat so I am not too worried about jigs falling out. I guess this is one time I can be thankful I fish out of a small boat with no built in tackle storage lol.
  21. That’s the one I am looking at. Kind of a splurge but would keep the jigs I carry the 3 or 4 bladed jigs organized nicely for a weeklong trip.
  22. I will obviously be trying it next week, was just curious if anyone had tried and either had success or failed. Also am not 100 percent that is the current code.
  23. Does anyone know if the LTBSAVESQ1 code works during the TW 25 days sale?
  24. Whats the lightest weight you store in there? Just worried that the smaller weights will slip through the holding arms. It does look super useful which is why I am considering it.
  25. I am thinking about picking one up next week from TW but have some concerns. I toss a lot of 3/16 ounce santone Rayburn swim jigs, fairly narrow head, and lots of other brands 1/4 ounce swim jigs and am concerned the box won’t hold them in place. I assume the 5/16 and up swim jigs will be fine. Normally I would just try it, but at 30 I would rather know before I buy. Hopefully @Bluebasser86 and others that have the box already can weigh in.
