  1. Deep cranking with baits like the 6th sense 1.9 oz C25 that pulls harder than a lot of musky baits. The other is Musky baits, between the heavier rods and lures in the 4-6 ounce range it can be a workout. The C25 I fish on a musky rod, but will try it soon on a Mojo swimbait rod.
  2. It's like the Ned rig of crankbaits the thing is so small. Even with the bill it is under 2" long.
  3. Back in my days on riversmallies a gentleman that fished Wisconsin and Illinois rivers regularly, Bill Schultz? @Munkin may remember him, fished the Rebel Teeny Wee craw a lot and had great success with it. I tried it many times back then and never even caught a fish on it. Well 10+ years later I have pulled it out of retirement and had very good success with it. Only thing I can figure is this year there is less current than previous years so maybe the bait doesn't do well in heavy current. Whatever it is I will take it, it made a slow period on the river active again, doesn't get much better than that.
  4. Really curious how these compare to the Provoke. My best jerks are the Provoke, Shadow Rap family with the 6th sense hyper jerk being really good the one time I used it and the Rerange has got some fish for me, just not at the levels of the others. I wish Jerks weren't so pricey I would try more, but I know you like the Provoke a lot so the comparison will help me decide how empty my wallet becomes in the buying/off season?
  5. I had that pink one that got set in with some of the green pumpkin orange ones and it turned into an orange creamsicle colored TRD that crushed them like no other color. Attempts to recreate the color have failed.
  6. Thanks for the 6th sense code! 12 cranks/jerks for 53 and change is pretty good. The price on the hyper jerk was great, that bait worked well for me this summer.
  7. Tube
  8. I shore fish a rocky river often with square bills and find that rod angle can play a huge difference. Fishing with the rod tip high I lose a lot less baits. I think the high rod tip raises the angle of the bill slightly so it doesn't dig as hard and must also give it a better angle to deflect off the rocks. That said I have a huge stash of bandit 100s bought on sale knowing I am going to lose one every so often.
  9. I picked up my second Edge box, a 3600 size. Normally I wouldn’t spend 20 on a box but it was 25 percent off. I liked how customizable the compartment sizes were for the my needs. This is a catch all box for stuff like jig skirts, bail springs, extra snaps, walleye spin components, etc. so that flexibility will come in handy. The smallest box will have holes drilled in the top to go in the river bag so wet rigs don’t rust when they are changed out. I do have the Edge jig box, and while nice, I put all the jigs that were in that box in half of a standard 3700 box and added shakey heads and slider heads. Unfortunately for me the Edge jig box just wasn’t practical. I am with others that they should make one with half of it being normal compartments.
  10. For the Menace or other soft plastic I would go with a 3/16th or 1/4 ounce slider spider head (Texas Rig all in one Jig). You could go with the pro version, but the lighter wire hook might be benificial if you snag up in heavy current. That way you can use a snap and not have to retie to switch lures in the kayak making things a little easier. I am a big believer in duo loc snaps with the slider heads and they don't seem to cost me hits, in fact in some very specific cases I get more hits.
  11. Well after learning my lesson when I ran out of my gopher mushroom heads only to find out I couldn’t get them anymore I found a Ned head I liked and stocked up. I picked up 220 Jade’s Jigs 1/16 size, tin and bismuth used to make them is 20 percent lighter than lead, Ned heads. This should keep me stocked for a few years.
  12. The number of extra strikes on a Shad rap with scent added vs an unscented one was very eye opening. Gels like liquid mayhem that slowly release scent have the opportunity to have the scent picked up by bass and get them to hold it longer, best of both worlds. Guessing megastrike is very similar.
  13. Well it goes back to the library and I finished it tonight. Overall it isn’t a lot different than a lot of the in fisherman books. One thing I have always disagreed with is that craws with pinchers getting hit more. Well since it was only tested on largies, my findings with smallies heavily preferring the crawbug with both claws instead of one makes sense. I also give up on here saying the Ned isn’t magic and just another tool in my tool box, because some attack you like you went after their family;). The most interesting part for me was about the role of scent. I am a scent believer, but the book makes a really good and solid case for it making a difference on hard baits and soft baits. For those that don’t believe this chapter is worth reading, just not for the current prices. overall I am smarter for reading it, but wasn’t mind blowing. I honestly learned more from books like lurkers love night crawlers and slider fishing, but I am really glad I got the opportunity to read it. Picture of book included to show I read the hard copy.
  14. I didn’t explain that well. I was talking about the bend of the hook. A rage menace or Kalins grub grip the plastic stay weedless a long time. I liked biospawn baits but they slipped down the bend of the hook all the time exposing the hooks to weeds. All on slider heads. The question is will Zman baits slide down the bend of the hook when lightly used exposing the hook to weeds. loctite gel is great for Ned rigs. That said I need to use up some plastics so I don’t worry about it right now;) the downside to stretching the use of baits is you don’t go through a lot that you have bought over 20 years lol.
  15. For the goat and billy goat it is 5 bucks for a 4 and 3 pack. My concern is the TRDs would tear by where the hook point exits the bait, so would the pro slider head, heavier gauge hook, start slipping after a fish or two and would it no longer be weedless? Their new 3.75” craw is 4.50 for 3 craws and the speed worm is 6 buck for 5 worms. What I used to like about their baits like the Zinkerz is they are one of the cheaper Ned baits out there and they lasted a long time. Yes I am cheap lol. I have a lot of Menace grubs but they were only bought on sale.
  16. Kind of disappointed in Zman offerings now that they branch out. Following in the footsteps of their menace knock off they are charging a big price for less plastics. They will last a bit longer yes, but if you break off they aren’t cheap. speaking of Menace knock offs the power bait option is intriguing. I may have to try a few packs of them.
  17. When I take the yak out for a couple of hours I put all my baits in a 3700 hydroflow box I will use for the day. I am careful handling it because some have said hook go through the holes easily, but so far no issues. I do rubber band the trebles together on cranks so that might help. I use the hydroflow box to limit my concerns about baits rusting since it all seems to get wet and you don’t have a lot of room to leave baits out to dry before storing them.
  18. While my Senkos have lasted for years in the bag because I don’t fish them, I did have really good luck fishing swim senkos on the lighter wire slider spider head. I would get 5 to 6 fish out of them regularly fishing for largemouth. I mention largemouth because they usually hit and fight softer than a smallie. Smallies are really hard on plastics so if the OP is fishing for smallies good luck:) Not sure if the light wire hook helped, @TOXIC, but it worked well for me.
  19. Reading this thread is interesting. I am not going through it with fishing, going as much if not more than before, but with other things in life. I wasn't like this early in the pandemic, but as things have been unlocking I have found my mental energy to do common tasks even ones I want to do isn't there. Most nights I end up on the couch watching TV with the wife saying I will do that tomorrow. Now my personal to do like is bigger than the honey do list;). I am trying ways to get myself to do stuff with moderate success, but it is just strange and I have no clue where it went sideways. I am just glad it didn't creep into my fishing.
  20. Not sure about A-Jay, but I love fishing clear water vs stained. I grew up near Geneva Lake and those that know it know it is as clear as they come. The lake we vacation on is very clear as well and I personally think fish are way more predictable in clear water than stained water. My home lake that is pretty nasty is difficult to fish mostly because there isn't a lot of structure and the weeds are just bizarre how they grow and how thick, millfoil would be an upgrade and we don't want that. Personally I think that clear water gets in peoples heads and messes with them. To the topic at hand. This morning river fishing after a big cold front with rain pushed through, I had 1 hit and landed a 20" tank smallie on a Ned with a drop shot worm, happened to be a big bite smallie smasher I was trying, but others like the missile baits bombshot work great too. Like most frontal bass this thing killed it and I first thought I had a big carp on! Yes that is an ugly stick in the picture, one of the ones I talked about in the now locked thread, that stays in my truck all summer, they catch big fish too?
  21. Senko or a generic version. Unless they are cut in half and fished as a Ned bait I have no idea how everyone catches fish with them. I am guessing I don’t have the patience to fish one.
  22. i was lucky to able to get 3 sage fly rods rods a couple of other mid range fly rods and some a cabelas fly rod or 2 for 500 a5 an estate sale. I got a great deal and the rods are sweet but full price for a high end fly rod will never happen, they are insane compared to bass rods. I am 2 years older and golf got me. Right arm and shoulder is all messed up. Before I quit I could make it through six holes shooting good numbers and it would end on one swing and I would basically walk of the course. For me fishing doesn’t bother me, but all my combos are pretty balanced. It is surprising how hard golf can be on the body, not sure how the pros hold up.
  23. No worries. I just can’t wait till people stop buying boats like crazy so I can get my 17 or 18 foot wider beamed boat and carry a lot more gear than I do now. Trying to pack a small amount of baits and rod/reel combos to cover a lake that always sees one to three cold fronts in the week we go is extremely challenging and why I do the lists. Having seen pictures of folks bass boat storage compartments they carry more for an afternoon trip than I can for week! Also thinking about when and where you will fish stuff is nice to think about while sitting through a boring meeting at work ?
  24. curious as to why? This is my packing list so I know which rods and reels to take. Prepared for sure but funny is a bit ridiculous. I do this during slow times to pass the time and think about fishing. Also fishing out of a small 16 foot boat it helps me to pack only the stuff I really need, because the boat doesn’t carry much. Pretty much pack like a co angler would in someone’s bass boat.
  25. I actually have found that I either need to let the same plastics I was throwing prior to the front moving through sit longer or toss a spinnerbait. Last year I did a summer and fall trip to a N. WI lake and in the summer post cold front they shut down completely on plastics and just started killing spinnerbaits with a clear sunny sky in water you can see bottom in 10+feet. The fall trip saw the same when a warm front pushed in and they again ignored plastics but ate a spinnerbait. One other baffling thing I have noticed about these conditions is that you get less hits, the hits are just crazy vicious, and the size of the fish runs larger. So for me these tend to be trophy fish days.
