  1. I really like your perch imitation, and the amount of orange in it. So many companies put too much orange in their perch imitations, when in reality most wild eating size perch really don't have a lot of orange. My next order will have a bunch of blue skirting material in it. Getting excited to toss some sapphire blue jigs this summer.
  2. River fishing = Yum Crawbug or Bandit 100 bounced off of rocks, which one depends on the time of year On the lake, I would have said a tube before last year, but by the end of the year I was always chucking a swim jig and caught fish both swimming it and bouncing it off bottom. The swim jig I use has a flat bottom head, so it stands up pretty well so it allows me to do double duty.
  3. I am not sure I would even try to anchor in waves on the lake I really want this for, it whips up pretty good and whitecaps have been the rule instead of the exception the last few years. It just seems windier overall now for some reason.
  4. Personally the best I have found is the Yum Crawbug. Not only are they cheap, but have two decent sizes along with good colors and well over the last six years have accounted for half of my river smallmouth catch. For me personally no reason to try anything else anymore.
  5. They all look really good, the middle top would work really well on the waters I fish. Who new there was a tackle making thread, thought the tackle thread was the place to go. Hoping this isn't too much of a duplicate on this thread.
  6. Been on here a while and can't remember a thread like this. The Dirty jigs thread got me thinking this could be pretty cool. Here are mine. The red and white is based on my number one clear water spinnerbait color, worked great. The other two are two different attempts at a perch pattern. My guess is the one with the lighter orange will be the money color, but I created them after the boat was put away. Sorry they are kind of sideways, but the upload turned them.
  7. I think I read somewhere that Gary Yamamoto designed the Senko with an eye towards something slightly different then the slugo. I wish I still had the article, I think it was in in fisherman.
  8. What is crazy is I bought a pack or three back in the day when I had no clue what I was doing, so maybe I should give them a toss and see what all the hype was about lol. I guess for me what is old is new.
  9. Here is a video of how I setup my 16ft alumacraft lunker. I really like it, and have fished in heavy closely spaced waves, but would not take it out on say Lake Superior. The biggest need was the 80 lb trolling motor, and the only downside is the back end blows all over the place when trying to position fish around reed beds in heavy wind. I made some drift buckets this year and hope they will keep the back end from kicking out. All in all though a great little rig. Have done a few more things since, hopefully posting the video is cool with the mods. That is really cool looking, but where do you store your gear and extra sticks? Would love to try fishing out of one sometime, but with the boating traffic that even our smaller lakes get I would worry about being seen in one.
  10. Butt seat for me 70 percent of the time as a prop to lean against. When my back acts up or I want to be lazy, I sit on it and rest one foot on the raised bow (aluminum deep v) and use the other on the trolling motor. Thought about trying without, but with the small deck space I have and all the gear out on deck a prop to help with balance is very useful.
  11. Looking at the mgs4u website and see that I may be able to build one pretty cheaply. I have a 16ft Alumacraft Lunker and would really like some sort of shallow water anchor, especially when I am fishing reed beds. Any other good cheap options out there.
  12. Curious what your gill swim jigs look like, mind posting a pic? I am going to pick up dome skirt material in May to tie up some jigs. Currently I have been using Santones sun perch for my gill imitation, Bass and Muskie seem to love it, so it is doing something right
  13. As I posted in another thread today, I have been using the Plano 3449 and 3450 boxes for the last 8 months without an issues.
  14. One of those boxes I have had baits in it for over 8 months and it hasn't started to warp yet, have yours warped? agreed though, a bigger box would be nice. I do like the grey double decker guide series boxes, I would guess that it is the same plastic though.
  15. On the water I carry multiple rigged Zman baits in either the double sided 3450 or 3449 planos (readily available), with a couple of holes drilled over each spot so baits can be put away wet. I have also used the really cheap planos with the old school snaps that I see on a deal at Menards every so often, these do warp after a few months, but since I am just using it to keep them away from others I am not too picky, and at the price I paid not worried about tossing them. Last thing I do is put a bit of paper towel in the bottom of each compartment to help with the water issue when baits are stored wet.
  16. NetBait Slim shake worm got used a lot last year and the thing was tough as nails. Very similar to the swamp crawler, but maybe a bit more durable. Both are excellent baits.
  17. Yes and along with a subltle action Bandit 100, I have done well with the new last year Strike King shallow SB. They really seemed to like that bait with a slight pause.
  18. I have a few and have done well with them. The only issue I have had is that toothy critters have walked off with a couple of them. So far I haven't seen any leak or break.
  19. Watermelon Red flake, has worked everywhere for me. A close second would be Kalins Ron's Craw which works better then water red, but is their color so nobody else has baits like it. Water red is universal.
  20. Can't speak to Senkos, because I don't toss them yet, but can talk a little about clear water colors. A lake I fish is smoke purple or other smoke colors when the water is flat with some sun, and water red will not get a look. If it is overcast and the wind picks up and a chop develops, water red turns on and the smoke tubes will not get a look. When on darker water as long as it is a darker color I don't seem to see any drastic shifts. I will say the clear water fishery is one I know very well, so that does make it easier for me, but at the same time it has taught me a lot too
  21. The only staples in the boat are tubes, grubs, Bandit 100, and a deep little N. Other baits will come and go depending on what I am feeling at the time. The problem is with all the new crap coming out all the time it is inevitable something will have to get benched because the power of the bait monkey is too strong.
  22. I am looking forward to trying them out this year, not sure why I waited so long lol
  23. So actually you should carry Senkos, Swim Senkos, and pick your imitation senko, because sometimes they want that 1mm extra wobble, or less, imitation bait, and sometimes more and you toss the swim senko. Have seen many times where different squarebills work depending on the barometric pressure, so small things can matter.
  24. I wasn't ripping on the bait, just saying that at 2.89 a bag I didn't think twice when tossing it in the cart. When I see bags of plastics 5 and up I think do I really need this or will some of the other stuff I have already work, and usually don't end up buying them.
  25. Pretty sure color 196 is the one you are looking for, if you give Mr Twister that number, hopefully they can help you out. A word of caution, that same number on cabelas does not have the white core. They may have changed it at some point to drop the white core, I thought they were the neon colors. http://mama.indstate.edu/users/eudyptes/fishing/softplastics.htm
