  1. My daily carry is a Glock 35 with a Safariland 6390 leveled up with an ALS guard. When I am not working and I am carring on my persons I carry my back up gun a Taurus da 5 shot, but my duty pistol always stays close by. I get tired of all the weight I carry around my waist, so when I am not working the gun typically stays in the car.
  2. It was comical...I looked at my wife and said he runs for Evinrude...if I am thinking right he said he was running a Yamaha. He had an Evinrude hat and Evinrude smack dab in the middle of his jersey.
  3. My wife and I attended the Classic for a 3rd straight year now. The venues in Houston were our least favorite of the three. Security at MinuteMaid was a major issue. There was a good deal of inconsistency with screening. We were in the life members, sponsors line etc etc and screening was not a harsh as general public lines. In one instance I had seen folks who came from the expo that were not allowed to bring in anything that contained hooks. For those parked close by it was no big deal, but those like my wife and I who were 8-10 blocks away it was not so handy. We arrived midday on Friday and spent only a little while at the expo before heading to the weigh-in. Having not settled into our hotel I was still carrying my concealed weapon. I am a peace officer here in Kentucky, working as a deputy sheriff and I am covered by the Federal Law Enforcement Safety Act that allows for carry throughout the United States. I carry a gun every day for work and honestly I do not carry it a lot when I am not working, so I am not one of those who is obsessed with carrying every single place that I go, but on this day I had it. Security treated me pretty darn bad through the whole process. I stepped to the side and asked for to speak with a supervisor, so that I could explain my situation. It was embarrassing when the supervisor made a scene, and I finally just had to ask to speak with a Houston PD officer. The PD officer was a transplant from the north to Houston, but he was exceptional. I showed him my law enforcement credentials and had me come on through the screening area. The supervisor for the security company still insisted on screening my bag and my wife's bags. She also wanted to know why I was going to be allowed to carry my pocket knife since that too was considered contraband. I had no objections with them searching, but the officer handled that issue and told her it wasn't happening and to drop the attitude. Days 2 and 3 I made sure to leave the gun in the room. Tulsa and Greenville had no such issues and the folks were awesome....just my experience.
  4. There will be some fish that are shallow and it seems Cedar has fish shallow most of the year. The largest of the females will be long spawned out by May IMHO. Early May will have good fishing, but the big girls will have already spawned.
  5. Even though the lake will not be drawn down...it seems that I am not catching the same fish that I previously have over the years. Yesterday I caught two four pound fish and today a five. Maybe things will pick up, but with the snow forecast and the cold temps this weekend it will likely turn things back off for a spell. Prime fishing for the spawn will be towards the end of march and early april. The end of April will be the tail end of the spawn. My experience on Cedar has been that the bigger fish fish will be caught early.
  6. Any more it is rare that I just fish a Tex rig worm. My big worms are the Mann's Jelly Worm 12", Berkley 12" and the NewBait Cmac 11" & 15". The Mann's jelly worm is almost excursively rigged on a YUM Pumpkin ED shakey head 1/4 oz/3/8oz with 6/0 wide gap hook. When fishing the other worms I fish them on a jika rig with 5/0 or 6/0 hooks. These worms will produce a lot of fish from May- Sep in my area.
  7. This is a scam...The sheriff's office where I work has been dealing with something very similar, but it is primarily with cars. Another one our deputies contacted the seller posing as a buyer and there was a list of whoops that had to be jumped through. This involved almost the same story line accept with was with a very nice used, but in excellent shape, ford work truck. It is one of those interstate cases that will probably be hard to figure out. It always goes back to if it sounds too good.
  8. I have seen the results of road rage one too many times in my profession. One of the more recent ones involved two OTR truck drivers who got got ticked at each other while driving over God really knows what. The instigator of the event was a Middle Eastern man and the other party was a white man from South Carolina. They ended up in one of our local truck stops and while the Middle Eastern man sat at a booth the while man came up behind him and put a small .25acp pocket pistol under his chin and couldn't get the gun to fire (it was a cheap Jennings that turned out to have a malfunction). The case ended up being turned over to Federal authorities because they are taking it as a hate crime because of racial slurs were used during the assault.
  9. This thread has inspired me to go through my plastics and get rid of all the stuff that I do not use. Somewhere along the lines I have gotten plastics that I just do not use or have never used. They will be up for sale soon LOL.
  10. I have had great success on this rig. The fish in my avatar was caught on jika rigged brush hog. It is a rig that works well with creatures, craws, lizards, and worms. One of the advantages that I like is when I am in heavy cover or in really thick grass I don't caught on the cover or grass like I would on shakey heads etc. They are simple to make, so if you want to try them out its not going to break the bank.
  11. I have have a couple set ups. Either a MH 7'2 Daiwa Lexa with an Exceller 100 reel with 15lbs Segar Fluro or I have a 7' Daiwa MH Exceller Rod with a 3000 class reel and 12lbs mono.
  12. I catch some big ol fish on the Mann's Jelly worm in the 12inch. Personally I fish them on the Pumpkin ED jig heads from YUM.
  13. The River 2 Sea stand up yabbies are actually a really good craw. The only major issue that I have is the exposed hook makes things a little more difficult if your fishing in an area with a lot of cover. There is a local river system that has several miles of nothing but a solid rock bottom and these craws work like a charm there.
  14. It is always good to see someone in the fishing sport exposing a new person who has no real experience.
  15. I completely forgot to mention the location...Cedar Creek Lake Lincoln County KY. LOL I was a little stoked I got that last fish in. It did not have a good hook set and it nearly got tangled up in a downed tree...it was a close close call.
  16. Hey, I posted a couple of pics in the fishing report post just today. You are welcome to check my previous post out, as Cedar Creek is my primary lake. Right now things are very different on Cedar because of a major lake draw down in hopes of killing out some grass. Around the time you are planning to come the lake should be filling back up. Right now all of the places where I caught my spawning and prespawning bass are out of water. It has forced me to learn some new locations. I would be happy to share what I know. Send me a message and I can try to answer any specific questions you have and maybe I can point you in the right direction.
  17. Yes it really is a pretty healthy lake all things considered. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife built the lake as a trophy fishing lake with a 20in one daily limit. The lake has been open to fishing about 12 years now.
  18. Well I was finally able to make it out on the lake. My best friend and coworker invited me out on his boat and we went to our favorite trophy lake. Due to a major draw down, in hopes of controlling grassy conditions, we were unsure of how the patterns would be affected. Literally all of the locations where we caught large bass last year are now dry land. The draw down has revealed a few interesting features that are helping me to understand why I have been so successful in some areas of lake and we plotted some key features that were unknown to us before. We only had three hours to fish and tried to make the best of it. The first fish was caught on a now exposed bridge piling where current from a creek has created a narrowing and fish have been gathering in and along this area. I was using my Daiwa spinning gear and Bass Pro Tender Tube rigged on 1/8oz tube jig and was a chunky 16inches. We moved to the only other mouth of a small creek that we could reach and nothing we fished was soliciting any bites. With about 30 minutes left I picked up a Strike King Sexy Ghost Minnow Crank 2.5. I have little confidence in my power fishing ability and have never caught a solid bass over a couple pounds on a crank. Caught both of these bass not 10 yards from each other the first measured 18inches and the second 19inches. These fish were both very tight to cover. These were both personal best to be caught on the crankbait.
  19. LOL there is no, "All of the above" or I would have checked that.
  20. On a large body of water I am not so much worried, but on the smaller bodies of water I tend to keep my knowledge to myself. The smaller water bodies that hold good fish may not stand up to large numbers of over fishing, so I tend to keep quite and enjoy my fishing spot.
  21. Mann's, NetBait, Berkley power worm, and Yum make up the majority of my plastics. Zoom in flukes and brush hogs too.
  22. This last year I had some good luck during the prespawn/spawn with Zoom Brush Hog's fished on my homemade Jika rigs. I am going to expand on that and include some of Zoom's 8inch lizards too. Got a feeling that I will crush them on the large lizards.
  23. Good write up. I am a true believer in the big baits on Cedar Creek Lake here in Central KY. It was built as the state's only designated trophy lake with a 20inch min/one per day limit. The lake is just a little over 10 years old now and it is reaching a big peak. My go to lure is a Mann's Jelly worm 12inch on a Yum Pumpkin ED 6/0 jig head. I basically fish it as souped up version of a shakey head. The Berkley 12inch power worm, Net Bait C-Mac in 12 and 15 inches are my other go to worms. These worms, especially the Mann's Jelly worm rakes in 3-5 pounders like they are going out of style. When fishing right next to my buddy who is using a smaller presentation his bait just doesn't catch the attention of those bigger bass. He just doesn't have a confidence in big baits and it makes a difference.
  24. I am familiar with high sticking rods...I did it with a rod when I was a kid. This rod tip splintered and broke way before it reached that point. I am certainly not perfect and have broken my share of tip in lots of stupid ways, but this was not one of them lol. On a good note I talked to the owner of the shop and I am going to get a better rod and pay the difference on it. I was glad we reached a good resolution because I like that store and wanted to be able to go back.
  25. My best friend is the rep for the wholesale distributor that supplies about 90% of their fishing inventory and he told me that the store would be credit for them if he took the rod back in as a return because of damage, that is just a policy the wholesaler has with their stores. I am going to chat with the owner again tomorrow because from what I have learned the store owner doesn't really loose anything on their end. IDK we will have to see how it goes with round two.
