  1. I've just recently started using Daiwa baitcasters just to see what the SV spool is about. I picked up a Steez and the SV103. The SV103 is a heck of a reel and is very versatile. I've only fished them both a little bit, but the SV103 is a great recommendation. The Steez is out of this world.
  2. I did the same thing with an SV103!
  3. Didn't know if it was the PX Type-R handle that tackle trap sells.
  4. I rock the LE 68MXF and 610MLXF. Covers everything I want to do with spinning gear.
  5. What handle is that?
  6. Of the Spriex and Presidents I own, I prefer the Presidents...
  7. Fished the Avid X 70MF casting the last two seasons. I occasionally fished around light grass and sparse lilly pads up north with no issues. Its meatier than the Legend Elite 70MF that I use. Even tho its rated to 5/8, it felt its best at 1/4 to 1/2 oz.
  8. Man this forum needs a mute function.
  9. I literally just bought an SV103 from TW for $270 last week. $202 today.
  10. Owning both side by side, Avid X.
  11. St Croix Legend Elite 68MXF Spinning and a 30 sized Pflueger Supreme.
  12. I had a question for those of you who buy stuff from Japan Lure Shop. I've ordered a couple JDM reels from them in the late winter each of the last 3 years. Usually they throw in a pack of treble hook guards or some Jika Rig hooks. I ordered another Metanium MGL last month and they threw in a Megabass FX Knuckle Jr. I was surprised as that's a pretty nice crankbait. Then, I ordered a Steez last week and they included the nicest spinnerbait I've ever seen - the packaging was in Japanese. They always write "Thank You" on the inside of the box, and the extra item they include always has "Gift" written on it. Have any of you guys or gals gotten some pretty sweet 'gift' lures from Japan Lure Shop this spring?
  13. Also, the Steez is a $500 reel that came out in the last couple months. While I could afford it, I had a hard time clicking the "complete your order" button when I saw that puppy in the shopping cart. From what I can tell, there are many people on these forums with way more self control than me.
  14. I have the Met MGL XG and Steez SV TW 1012XH. I've also had a Core 50 and Aldebaran 50HG. The Steez and the MGL are my favorite reels. I've had the Steez about a week and it is a smooth reel. I can cast 1/6oz Ned Rigs with it on a rod rated no lower than 1/4oz with no backlash. I haven't really put it through the paces yet, but its the first reel I went "wow" when I picked it up. Its on a St Croix Legend Elite 70MF rod - this combo balances very well. The steez is a Smooth caster, decent distance. It feels like the perfect weightless or 1/4oz weighted set up. The MGL is a sweet caster. Had it for a year and the thing is a joy to cast with. I have them on an Avid X 70MF and 70MHF. After trying some Loomis rods, I'm a St Croix fanboy. Love the Legend Elites and the Avid X line ups. I own a couple of each. The Avids fish slightly higher than their rating and the Elites are right on, tho I've never had a MH or H Elite. The Met MGL is really versitile and smooth - definitely worth it especially if you're thinking a MH St Croix. The week I've spent with the Steez SV TW has been awesome, but not enough time to give a fair recommendation.
  15. As a total St Croix fanboy I recommend the Cabelas Tournament ZX crankbait rod on sale right now for $70.
  16. For me, Spinning: rod first then reel. Casting: a never ending cycle of buying and selling JDM reels.
  17. I fish southwestern Maine regularly. I fish 2 combos for everything bass related. I have more, but find myself mostly using two combos. A spinning 6'8" Medium Xtra Fast rod with a 2500 sized spinning reel. Then a 7' Medium Heavy Fast casting rod with a 100 sized baitcast reel. The spinning combo does the following: Tube Jigs Ned Rig Shakeyhead Senkos 5" and under Flukes Weighted plastics under 1/4 oz Fat Ikas Baitcasting combo for the following: Weighted plastics 1/4 to 3/4 oz - football jigs, T rigged craws, swimbaits like Keitechs, wacky rigged 6 and 7 inch senkos. Jerkbaits Spooks Spinnerbaits Some squarebills/lipless cranks. Flipping small grass patches. Thats really all you need for bass up north. This leaves out deep crankbaits, stuff like alabama rigs, and flipping really heavy cover. I do have casting gear for Ned rigs and tube jigs, but thats just for the heck of it.
  18. 3.5 inch Fat Gitzit in Brown Salt and Pepper. 1/4oz 90 degree jig head.
  19. I like the Stick jackets that TW sells. The are good quality and micro guide tip tops doesn't poke through the nylon when you out them on the rod.
  20. I'm wondering more about yanking 20 lbs of fish and slop with an SV spool, but thanks.
  21. So I was tninking of getting a Curado 70XG for pitching and flipping 1/2 to 1oz rigs. Then when asking people about Daiwa reels in another thread, the SV103 got lots of love. I'm not sure how the SV103 palms either. I really like the Curados, but I'm intrigued by the SV103 and its spool versatility as well as it being built solid. I was also considering the Tatula SV, but cant tell if it has an aluminum or Zaion on the handle side plate. I can see using the SV103 for flipping, then as a back-up reel for weightless plastics. Is the SV103 something I could use for flipping or would the other two reels be better suited?
  22. Yes you can and there is nothing wrong with it. Understand you need a baitcaster with a lightweight spool to effectively cast the light ned rig. Those are pricey. Then you'll want a ML rod with a fast or Xfast tip. Again, that is not an entry level rod in the baitcasting world. While I don't have any "BFS" enthusiast gear, I do enjoy casting a 1/6oz Ned Rig on baitcasting gear, especially for smallmouth in deep water.
  23. The Exsence is a saltwater compatible Antares DC.
