  1. Hey thanks for the recommendation, but I already have a Pflueger, and am looking to diversify my reel selection. Im either planning to go on a boat in Lake Minnewanka or fish from the shore on the Bow River. Along the bow river, what did you guys catch? I heard theres very decent sized trout in there, and am planning to fish it using my ultralight..
  2. Anybody using them? If so, how are they? I'm going back to Canada during August to BANFF, and I'm looking for an ultralight reel I can carry on the plane to there with my pack rod. At the moment, all I have is a BPS 50$ gift card, so I'm kinda limited in my options. I don't want to bring any of my expensive reels there, in case they get dinged or lost, which is why I'm not looking to break the bank on a new travel spinning reel.
  3. Great for New Jersey, as we have a wide assortment of Dick's and Sports Authority. Their essentially the only local place you can buy fishing stuff, other than wally world, as the Bass Pro that was "supposed" to go up in Atlantic City keeps on getting delayed. Dick's has always had a much bigger fishing (and clearance) section that SA, so it should help SA get more fishing gear and much better deals.
  4. Run 6 lb McCoy Xtra Clear on my ultralight setup and it works great. Use Hi-Seas copolymer on my baitcaster and it feels like a typical monofilament, nothing special. Hi-Seas braid is actually pretty good though, comparable to power pro except that it can be found for pretty cheap.
  5. Nah, I'm talking about the previous Supreme MG. Its a bit cheaper but the new one looks to be a great reel to. Here's a picture of mine. EDIT: The reel I'm talking about is the Supremem MGX. It was discontinued, which is why it can be found for so cheap, and it was replaced by the current day Supreme.
  6. I would think the bass would be hiding under the pads near the shallower parts of the lake. JMO but I would throw a frog out there or a punching jig to check it out. Another option would be to try to find the banks and fish them using a weighted texas or Carolina rig.
  7. Try fishing in the light rain .. it cools down a lot and the bass tend to get more active.
  8. Pluefger Supreme MG is pretty much a straight upgrade up the President. You can find it for around 60$ if you look hard enough. I got mine for around 50$ on clearance at DSG and it's still going strong after 50+ bass.
  9. I don't know if this is exactly true. i used to use camo Siege line, and before I used it on the water, it formed large coils and was pretty much unusable on my baitcaster. Even when I used it on the water, the coils still were there, but were just a bit smaller and less. And a day after, all the coils were back to their original size Overall, I would suggest using a copoly or supple and low memory mono line.
  10. welcome, and in new jersey, the selection of sizeable fishing stores other than Tackle Direct and DSG is pretty much nonexistent. Don't you have a local GM next to you? I'd love to have one of those in jersey lol
  11. Whew... Rod shipping is insane on this website. Just tried tried ordering a KVD Cranking rod to see shpping costs, and to 08810 in NJ, shipping is $199
  12. Aren't they usually on clearance half off online? The only reason I never pounce on them is because Cabela's shipping is extremely expensive compared to other big box stores like BPS or Gander.
  13. DSG is tha bomb.com. Easily best deals in my area. I have 4 walmarts within 40 minutes, all the tackles and fishing stuff is bottom quality. DSG has some really nice St.Croixs and G Loomiss, and has a lot of really good reels. Also, at DSG, the clearance section is always filled with high quality tackle
  14. Freshwater: Easily snakehead. There are videos on youtube of them destroying similar sized pike in a fight. Saltwater: Bull Sharks are really ferocious
  15. Local DSG has flaming deals around the holidays, and I also look in the used section of Amazon
  16. Completely agree. Best advice I've read in this thread so far. To the OP, what type of reel are you using? (i.e. graphit/carbon, alumnum, magnesium etc.)
  17. I wouldn't eat wild catfish... but that's just me. Like eels, in a natural environment, catfish suck most of the toxins into their bodies lol.
  18. Everything's fine except that for cranks and topwater I would recommend a 7'mh moderate action casting rod. Also, for frogs and some topwaters i would recommend XF but that's just me lol
  19. Carnegie and Farrington are my local lakes and have pretty good shore access compared to the other "big" lakes. Also, Lake Manaplan in Monroe is a good option for bank fishing. Best bank fishing like I know of, as its pretty much all shore line, and they stock trout there.
  20. Pickerel are fun as hell to catch lol. They put up a great fight, but just watch your fingers. They also taste great in a pinch, as you just have to watch for the tiny y bones, and filet them like pike.
  21. Uni Knot is pretty good
  22. In the lower price ranges, there's usually a pretty big difference quality wise in rods and reels. However, once you reach around 200$-300$ there's a point of "diminishing return" (creds to DVT), where the difference really isn't too noticeable. So I would say no point in buying 400$ rods and 750$ reels unless you're an enthusiast or tournament fisher
  23. have seen some type of snakes swimming on the top of my local lake... but never seen a bass actually try to eat one lol
  24. Try Rage-Rig and T-Rig. Most pond bass LOVE soft plastics.
