Hello all, my name is Jake and I love to fish for bass anywhere they live. I have been fishing since I was a lil' kid. Born and raised in Northeast Indiana, fished many different bodies of water in the area. Lakes, Rivers, Streams and all kinds of amazing lil' farm ponds. I have caught both largemouth and smallmouths in Indiana. My personal best was a 7lb largemouth from a farm pond a few years back. Got her on a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver Dirty Sanchez color. Texas rigged.
I usually go fishing in my kayak, a 10ft. Old Town DLX Angler. A sit-in style with a fairly open top, two rod holders and room for a small tackle bag. I've owned the kayak for about three years now and it was the best $500 I ever spent. These new fishing kayaks are extremely stable and very adept to getting after bass. You can get way back into cutbacks and weed choked bays that other boats just can't manage. And catching fish while sitting that close to the water is an exciting experience! If you're tired of being limited to bank fishing and can't afford a big boat you should really look at the new fishing kayaks these companies are rolling out. they are a fantastic way to fish for bass.
Some of my favorite tackle and techniques;
Jig fishing; Dirty Jigs is the best brand of jigs I have ever fished, GREAT colors, strong hooks and awesome head styles. Usually pair my flippin/pitchin jigs with Netbait Paca Chunks or lately been trying the new Strike King Rage Tail menace grubs, if you haven't discovered these you need to.
Spinnerbaits; I recently have rediscovered the great versatility of spinnerbaits on my local river. Fishing in stained water for largemouth or smallmouth I have had alot of recent success in the fall catching alot of smallies on a Screaming Eagle white and chartreuse spinnerbait. I highly recommend Screaming Eagle spinnerbaits, they may not seem on thesmall side and not as detailed or tricked out as other brands of spinnerbaits but they flat out CATCH FISH! The biggest difference I notice is in the thump you feel from their premium blades.
Creature baits; All time favorite creature bait is the Sweet Beaver from Reaction Innovations. I have caught fish rigging it every way imaginable, texas, weightless, jig trailer and shaky head.
Other favorite techniques; Buzzbaits, Squarebills, Rat-L-Traps, Shaky heads.
