  1. I caught a decent one today in a pond using a black and blue spinner bait with a gold spinner of all things. The temp was about 40 and the water still had a chunk of ice in the middle ;D This is the first time I have even winter fished. I hope some good advice gets posted on what to use so I know!
  2. I went just the other day. It was 42 degrees, pouring rain and the wind was blowing about 25mph. Everyone gave me a hard time, but I did catch 3 decent bass within the hour I fished before it got dark 8-)
  3. I really hate wind as well. I hate to drive in it, so I'm usually sick of it before I even get to where I'm going. Also, I have no patience when it comes to tieing on lures, and wind makes that worse as well. Here in Kansas its always windy it seems. Lately I've been using some senko knock off worm called a tiki stick. A brown pumpkin seend, and fishing it weightless. It has been catching lots of fish in the big pond I've been fishing. Should a person use and one color lure or worm when it's windy? Or just see what works?
  4. What are some good lures to use when the wind IS howling?
  5. Looks like you took that picture on one of those 30mph wind days we had recently ;D Where in Kansas are you located? I live in South East Kansas. I'd fish towards those concrete culverts if I were you. I too would try to sneek some structure in there. Then when other people are fishing you can walk up to the area where you know the fish will be and start reeling them in. Everyone will be amazed, haha.
  6. I went fishing today after work, like I do most days. I always go to the lake that is on my way home. A buddy of mine went to his pond today while I was at the lake. He caught 11 bass at his pond, and I caught 2 bass. Why does this always happen? I know a pond is smaller and you can cover more area quicker, but he uses no skill when it comes to fishing. He will only use a #3 Mepps regardless of conditions and will just start casting aways. Me on the other hand like to use plastic worms, and will use certain ones according to how clear the water is and how the weather is, and fish cover and drop offs. So why is he pulling so many in and i'm not? Oh yeah, we both fish from the bank.
  7. Hey ranger364, when and where did you catch that fish? I have been fishing at BigHill almost everyday this week after work(just from the bank tho :'()
  8. What does a Bed look like? And where are some good places to look for them? Shallow weedy areas, or shallow clear rocky areas, or somthing else?
  9. Is it just me, or does it seem kinda like cheating when all the bass are grouped into one spot and you catch them? Maybe I'm seeing it wrong I dunno. I'm a newbie ;D
  10. Last year I didn't get into bass fishing til late spring early summer, so most of the worms I have I bought for summer. I was wondering what some good plastics are for spring bass fishing? I heard that bass spawn in the spring, and lizards eat their eggs, so bass attack lizzards. So, I bought some sartruse lizards. Will these work, and what are some other good plastic, and colors to use? Please use newbie terminolgy as I'm still beggining. Thanks, Jared
  11. Why should you keep your worms in the original bags?
  12. When you say he would take a bucket of worms do you mean real worms or plastic ones? And if you mean real live worms how do you slowly work a live worm? We went to what I believe is called the sportsman pits. There are almost too many to pick from. Its about one of the only decent places to fish close to me. I live 7 miles west of Parsons KS. Its cool to see people on here that actually come from around the same area as I live.
  13. Thats one thing I actually started out with was a black buzz bait. I didn't have any luck with it, and took it off once it got daylight. Shoulda left it on. Would a t-rigged worm work good at all since there isn't alot of shallows, and its pretty deep? As far as top water thats about the only thing we didn't try. I've lost all my topwater lures except one and is a big ol' devil's horse. I have never cought anything on one so I didn't even mess with tieing it on. Oh, I will most definatly stay dry. It's suposed to be 105-110 for the next 7 days with no chances of rain. :'( Thanks for the help man
  14. Hmm, I guess nobody fishes in strip pits or in the rain? Surely they do, please help me out.
  15. I went fishing this morning and decided to go early to beat the heat. I got to the strip pits near McCune KS at about 5:30. We put the Boat it and got started. It was overcst all day, and actually raining at times. I figued the fishing would be great. We were there from 5:30am to 12pm and only caught 3 fish. It is extremely deep, and there are weeds around the edge in the shallows(which are still 4-5 feet deep, but drop off sharply). We caught our 3 fish on red spinners, and then they quit bitting i guess. We tried about everything in our tack boxes. Any advice would be great.
