  1. I didn't know about this until late May. Unfortunately I can't go. I will join next year though, I hear it's well run and great fun. I participated the last two years and had a blast both times, it's a great event! Definitely check it out next year.
  2. I have a helix 5, works great but if I were to buy a new one it would be bigger... probably the 7"
  3. Do you think the pedal drive would be of value to you? That's pretty much the trade off for all of the accessories. That said I have not used either of the above boats... I have the outback and for me and the waters I fish it was a great upgrade over my cuda.
  4. Send it back, get a replacement rod, catch fish. With this issue and pictures you put up I cant see them saying its not covered for a replacement.
  5. If it fits and you're able to access it easily it's not too big. You might have an easier time just bringing the loose trays and putting them in a milk crate style box depending on the yak you have. For me it's all about the access, I want to be able to get to my gear easily without too much hassle.
  6. PB LM - Jig PB SM - Rapala Original floater
  7. Not on the cheap side but my fav cranks the last couple years are the spro little johns
  8. I have the carfiff 400 as a musky reel. It's a decent reel... I have had issues with screws backing out and the plastic release button seems cheap but all in all for the price it works good. I have heard good things from the musky guys about the okuma komodo, or if you wanted to bump up the budget the revo toro beast or Calcutta are supposed to be top of the line.
  9. I stick to 4 now a days.. when I was on the bank pretty much just did one or two rods at most.
  10. I use one like this: http://www.cabelas.com/product/malone-clipper-trade-universal-canoe-kayak-cart/1750213.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dkayak%2Bcart%26x%3D10%26y%3D6%26WTz_l%3DHeader%3BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=kayak+cart I got it when I purchased my first used kayak. No major issues with it, sucks on the beach sand though due to smaller wheels. Stores easily in the back tankwell area of my yak when needed. If I were to buy a new one I'd get something nice like the c-tug or a scupper one.. but I have to use it almost every time I take the kayak out.
  11. Kayak buy/sell/trade group on FB I'm sure if someone is close an ATAK would probably sell fairly quickly at a good price.
  12. We use to head up there yearly mainly to fish for pike. Spinners and jerkbaits worked great, colours varied year to year. If weedy we used the "bass" style skirted spinners if not too weedy mepps seemed to work better.
  13. Not all random.. Equipment plays a role, Hard work plays a bigger role
  14. Or snag up some old champs @ a great price if they go on sale like the old extremes
  15. Thanks for the tips, I'm guessing the card reader on the Helix works properly since I updated the unit via SD several days ago but I'll try the snapshot on a blank card too. I'll have to look into the card tonight make sure it still functions on my old unit.
  16. Yeah, this concerns me a little as my HotMaps Canada wont load the charts in my Helix... According to Navionics it should be working. They gave me some instructions to check my card for damage. Not sure.. it's an old card non premium / platinum just "hot maps"
  17. Thanks for the info! Seems like a solid path to take. I misunderstood about Nav+, I thought it auto filled your SD card... but if you pick and choose that's great.
  18. I currently purchased a Humminbird Helix 5 SI/GPS unit and none of my old navionics cards will fit / work My old cards were (Old card for the Great Lakes (SD Format), and hotmaps Canada (non premium.. still not sure if this chip should be working but I cant get the maps to load). Anyway.. I was pretty set on purchasing the Lakemaster great Lakes card but then I contacted Navionics and was offered a trade in to get Nav+ for the same price as the lakemaster card with trade in. Question is: I read on this forum that the Helix 5 is slow reading the gps with a "full" sd card thats why i'm still leaning towards the LakeMaster. How bad is this slow read? I purchased this unit for my kayak and small fishing boat (40hp motor) so in either vessel i'm not going at super high speeds. What would you do? I do not plan on getting an iPilot motor, the shading feature on the lakemaster looks great, main lakes will be St. Calir / Erie / Lake Nipissing (i'm out of luck for this one if I get the lakemaster).
  19. Yeah, Such along wait in Ontario Luckly near me we have the walleye run to keep us occupied.
  20. When trolling with riggers or dipsy's it matters how far back the line is.. Not sure it's useful for bass fishing but to each his own.
  21. Pretty nice budget for a yak! Don't forget the PFD I own a jackson cuda 14 and the only other yaks I have been interested in were the WS A.T.A.K. and a Hobie with mirage drive. Try to find a local dealer to demo some of the ones you pick out. Factor in whats already pre-rigged on the yak, a selling feature of the Cuda for me was how it was mostly pre-rigged for fishing (Rod holders, gear tracks, etc).
  22. Thanks, any comment on the sensitivity of this rod?
  23. Looking for a new rod next season for flipping jigs, frogs, thick cover stuff... Earlier this year I purchased a fenwick elite tech bass rod and am pretty happy with it but it's M/H and I'd like something a little stiffer for my next rod. I'm not a top of the line guy and I find the sensitivity enough for me within the elite tech rod. I could consider another fenwick rod but i'm really fond of the feel of my dobyns dropshot champ rod. I'm looking into the fury online but I don't want to purchase a dead broomstick.. Is the sensitivity there in this rod? (Again i'm not trying to compare to $250+ rods), I have read bad stuff about the savvy for sensitivity, just wondering if the fury is in the same boat? Would be looking at either the FR 735C or 734 (not to sure which?)
