  1. Thanks so much for the info Tom, I was meant more about time of day so thanks for the tip on that! Tomorrow I will be there (the river) in the morning from 630-11 so hopefully I can figure something out with all of your insight. Have you been to Isabella recently? That is awesome, I am going to look for your article right now!
  2. Yeah I am hitting the lower kern, Tom. I am scared to launch at Isabella because of the launch ramps, I have heard it is a real pain to launch right now and lots of people have been getting stuck. I only have a four cylinder Ford Ranger so I haven't been willing to risk it! But I have heard/seen pictures of some big bass getting caught there in the past with lots of double digits. Thanks on the adivce on the finesse jigs, I have a couple that I will definitely give a shot tomorrow morning. In your experience is there a more productive time for the river than others?
  3. I was using a shakey shad made by Gambler. I believe a pack of them came in the MTB pro November box.
  4. Thanks for the input man! The water temp the last couple of times I have been were between 46-48 degrees. Yeah I figured the drop shot would of been the winner as well, but to be honest I am pretty new to drop shotting so it very much could of been user error! I am fishing the Kern River Tom, I know it is not an ideal bass fishery but I have had some good luck catching large mouth from the shore during the summer months. Now that I am using a boat I am striking out! I'm sure the the change in weather has had a lot to do with it.
  5. I am having a hard time fishing a local river, it is fed by snow melt from the Sierras. The river is not very wide gets to be maybe 50 yards in the widest areas that I am fishing, I am marking a lot of fish in a certain area by a rock face, the fish are holding fairly deep between 10-20ft ( the deepest section I have found in the river is about 28ft). I have thrown jigs, deep divers, drop shot, ned rig with no luck yet. I am headed back tomorrow and I think I am going to hit that same area where I have been marking them and throw some spinnerbaits. Any other suggestions?
  6. Thanks so much for this thread! I am in need of some ideas for manana.
  7. Such a tough time of year to be without our loved ones, I am really sorry for your loss. Sending positive thoughts your way.
  8. At this point I would just like to express how thankful I am that I get paid each Friday!!
  9. I have been hearing a lot about this bait lately! All of the aqueduct fishermen around here have been doing real good on stripers with that bad boy!

  12. wow nice job!
  13. Biggest smallie I have ever caught by far and the best part it was my first spinnerbait fish too! My previous smallie was from a river and only about 6".
  14. Thoughts and prayers are with all of the folks of Paris. I follow a lot of footy (soccer ) and am extremely surprised the friendly game between France and Germany that was going on in Paris was not a target in this attack. When I first heard of the attacks this was the first thing to pop in my mind.
  15. Pretty much the route I have been on as well
  16. You might not have developed that "touch" or "feel" with the rod that gets talked about quite often on here. Some people just have better reflexes and sensitivity than others like anything else, the good news is I think you can develop this skill over time. ( I am still very much learning)
  17. Spinnerbaits have been a fun and rewarding technique that I have recently been using for the first time. The fish I have been catching on spinnerbaits really seem to hammer them hard , so it has been a lot of fun catching fish with them!
  18. In this digital life we now live in , there is no reason to not be doing your HW and checking comparable prices. Kind of goes without saying doesn't it?
  19. You lost me at "stupid fish".
  20. Look into a field like Forestry, I am currently finishing up my AS in Forestry, and then will work towards my BS in Environmental Resource Management. There are many jobs and different areas of concentration you can get into that all involve the outdoors. The BLM, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Parks Service are just a couple of the big boys who are looking for grads in those related fields. One of my professors expressed to us that a huge number of retirees are on their way or will be soon, so there will be a big need to fill these types of jobs.
  21. Any info on Pyramid Lake?
  22. Ive read on here that that lipless cranks are really effective in fall too. When do you guys throw a lipless vs a squarebill?
  23. Like mentioned above, breaking any type of record in CA will be quite the daunting task. Since my current setup does not have a livewell, pictures and some measurements and maybe a slap on the ass will be all she'll get before shes goes back in the water.
  24. Learned about doing it this way here at the forums, and haven't looked back since!!
