  1. there comes a point were you just have to quit trying to up grade. what I mean is, for me any way, the more I use better stuff I just cant stand to fish "lesser" equipment I always feel like I am missing something. but for the last couple years I have been forcing myself to be happy with what I have and fish what I can afford and I honestly cant tell the difference. My older curado's and older citicas do everything I need and require very little attention so really why switch. I think that if you are a recreational angler there really is no need to go over $200 for a reel or $250 for a rod. you can get some amazing gear for those prices. although if you can afford it then go nuts!
  2. for me it has always been an x rap fished as fast as I can work it however today after 6 hours of fishing I only managed 2 pike and 2 small bass which all came from a white spinnerbait. I talked to a few other guys who said they didn't do very well either so I got to thinking in this situation I should have worked some more reaction type baits. the x-rap didn't do it for me today so I need to hit the store! what do you use for reaction baits. PS. I also tried working plastics really slow. on one cast I would spend probably 10 minutes. I tried shakey head, senko, t rigged worms, lizards, and craw tubes. I missed a couple on the shaky head.
  3. go natural or clear and be sure to use a mono or flouro leader if you are using braid
  4. typical gander mountain. the one here never has anything I'm looking for, full selection of woman's apparel though
  5. when I was probably 10 I was dropping the anchor in my grandpas boat, well I didn't know there was a lure stuck in the rope so as the rope slid through my hands I got hooked pretty good. I don't even remember how we got it out but I sure remember it happening.
  6. tie good knots get off couch
  7. when you get a more sensitive rod sometimes even trying to pull through a weed can feel like a bite. there is a bit of a learning curve. you had better hookups before because if you felt it they were on, but now you feel it when they bump it or when a little fish tries to bite the tail.
  8. happens to me all the time same with duck hunting. as soon as I think about switching spots I get bit. as soon as I call it and start picking up decoys ducks buzz us. that is why I am lake coming home from every outdoors activity I do.
  9. I'm 29 and cant find anyone to fish with. every one is a walleye fisherman or panfish around here.
  10. what is it you are asking for, you could use some work on your wording and you may not want to post so much personal information on the internet. also what sets you apart. every 16 year old kid wants to be sponsored how are you worth it more than another guy.
  11. when you hit the lake every thing looks like it should be a good day but after 2 hours you still haven't caught anything what do you do?
  12. so jealous I really hate you. I have been loving the rage toads I guess I'll have to give the lobster a try. nice work!
  13. I remember my first and I ended up throwing it in the garbage after 1 summer but I had no one to show me how. now i have 10 Baitcaster and 2 spinning set ups. I would suggest setting every other break in the out position (three out) and starting with a tighter spool tension setting. as your thumb gets the hang of it you can loosen your spool tension and gain distance. as for me I use 1 or 2 breaks depending on weather I'm casting into the wind or not.
  14. 5 or so. you don't look very happy about it in your pic though.
  15. easiest thing I could suggest is find your weed edge toss a senko around for a bit if you don't catch anything move 30 yards down the weed line and repeat. A senko is one of the easiest and most productive ways to fish. read the senko fact in the tackle section for more info than you could ever read on how to fish them.
  16. how sharp are your hooks, you may also want to trim your weed guard a bit.
  17. get it from walmart with all the other goof balls in the place they wont even bat an eye at nail polish.
  18. I want one! awesome work not sure which are my favorite. if you are sellin I'm buyin!
  19. 1. Rage toad-------while I do use them in the pads my favorite is to cast them up into the grass or cattails and let it gently fall into the water, I feel like I don't spook fish by launching it right on their heads and I don't have to get the boat as close trying to get a soft landing. 2. white spinner bait------every where, if it is really deep I will put a bullet weight on the line I will fish them up to 20' deep but usually 1-10 feet the most. 3. senko-----------too easy I know but I am not going for style points
  20. braid 99% of the time. I hate pretty much every thing about mono I admit to not trying the florocarbon but my lakes are so dirty I don't think the visibility of the braid is hurting me.
  21. ultathon is awesome stuff have been using it for a couple years now and really like it.
  22. sounds like a good opener, my best so far this year is only 3.6 but it's early yet. I am also in minnesota I was in the west metro.
  23. I cant wait till I can retire. The only thing that gets me through the day is knowing that I am one day closer to retirement I only have 36 years 8 months and 12 days left! Enjoy your retirement you've earned it.
  24. I admit I bought into the hype and picked one up when they came out. it was a nice rod till it broke 2 weeks after I got it. mine snapped while trying to rip a spinner bait out of a clump of floating millfoil, not a big clump either. Cabelas let me return it and I ended up getting a St.Croix Avid and $30 back. (I had the gold series) well after not hearing anything about them for a good while I was wondering how they have held up and if anyone still loves them like they did 2 years ago.
  25. my goto lake did that last year, I used to catch lots of good sized fish and the occasional muskie then last year I couldn't buy a bite it is a small lake too so there are only so many places they can go. I would spend hours working a craw tube or a worm in the areas that should and usually do hold fish and catch maybe 1-2 dinks. this year has been really good out there so far. I don't get it but I understand your frusteration.
