  1. I have been doing pretty good so far this summer I have been averaging at least 1 bass at 20" almost every time i go out which for minnesota is pretty good. The problem is lately all I have been catching are dinks which to me means they have moved deep, and I am not very good at fishing deep. I have been trying trigs- and jigs with a zoom chunk for a trailer will varied results. I just cannot get the hang of carolina rigs is there something else you suggest or should I force myself to stick with one thing untill i get it. I don't have alot of time to get out only on sundays for abuot 8 hours so I would like to catch as many fish as possible in that time. any help is greatly appreciated.
  2. ha i posed that same question to the rep at gander mountain. he didn't have an answer ;D
  3. I have 4 citica's and 3 of the old green curado's and I actually like the citica's better they just feel better imo.
  4. t-rigged untill it starts sliding down the hook or gets torn up then I will wacky rig untill I loose it. I fish around alot of weeds mostly milfoil so the wacky can be kind of annoying at times.
  5. I am getting really fed up with these people. i realize they are not all complete a holes just the ones i see on the lake. it seems just about every time i go out these people come flying by with in casting distance creating a big wake and d**n near tipping me out of the boat. I have have actually had it happen where i was fishing a spot and these guys set up a course around me like 20 feet from the boat! THEY HAD THE WHOLE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE! some times i feel like casting a 1 oz spoon at them as they go by but i know that wont solve anything and it is getting worse, the lakes i go to up north now have so many cabins on them you cant get away from them up there any more either. sorry for the rant I am just sick of these d**n inconsiderate boaters. how do you deal with them?
  6. I own like 10 avids, I do use the 7' med-hvy moderate for cranks though I think it is a little stiff next time i might get the med moderate action. or a composite rod I wonder if they still make the pro glass rods? but yeah avid rods are great.
  7. I fish a lot of docks and I am looking for something heavy that I can skip under docks any suggestions. I am getting bored with senkos for some reason. mabye they catch too many fish and it doesn't seem like a challenge anymore.
  8. you know, now that you mention it my PB was underwater too. sorry
  9. I have been using the copolymer steady for 2 years and it is a great line! the pluses as I see them are that it is VERY strong it seems pretty abrasion resistant and seems to have lower memory compared to trilene xl or xt. the negatives seem to be that it is a little thicker than other lines and is pretty stiff. but over all it is a great line and well worth the price tag as far as I am concerned.
  10. if you do return it look at the guide series im8 and pair it with a shimano sahara that will put you at $120 and you will love this combo. I work at gander mountain and that is by far one of the most popular combo's I sell people love it. by the way which gander were you at.
  11. lets start by saying life has been VERY busy for the last 2 years. I was towing my boat to go duck hunting. I got to the lake just fine and did pretty good on the ducks. on our way back from our hunting spot we ran out of gas about a mile from the launch ok I have the trolling motor. so about 45 minutes later we are back to the launch with a nearly dead battery when I go to back up to pick up the boat when I notice my back left tire is wobbling really bad so I get out to look at it and the tire is littaraly balanced on the axle. the hub had frozen up while going down the highway and luck kept it on the trailer! my buddy looks at it and asks "when was the last time you greased the bearings" "about 3 years ago" his jaw drops and I felt like a complete dummy. to this day he asks me if i greased the bearings every time we hunt or fish together and if i have enough gas. I now have bearing buddies and grease three times a year. Live and learn.
  12. for me I would rather fish from a canoe you can find them used all the time around $200 it seems to me that for a good raft that is really sturdy it would cost you that or more plus you have to fill it. and a canoe you can just tie it to the top of your car.
  13. 5:00 by my self and 6 with other people unless they actually care more about catching fish than z's
  14. as long as it doesn't leak I see nothing wrong with it whatsoever. my boat was it pretty rough shape when I bought it now it is a duck killin, fishin machine. It is nice to see someone not afraid to do a little work to get what they want. Please post some pics when you are done. congratulations on your new boat. remember fish don't care what kind of boat you are in, just what color senko you are using
  15. I am a fan of the cardiff it is a great reel. it's not the size of the fish it will catch it is the line size you plan to use. the 200 will give you more line capacity so you can use larger diameter line and still get a good amount on. if you are only planning to use 10 or 12 pound test or micro braids (power pro, stren super braid, suffix braid, etc) it will be fine but if you want to use say 20# big game or another larger size mono you will appreciate the larger line capacity.
  16. I have always figured heavy action rods to be for flipping jigs which i don't do much of i have never had luck with that. can you point out some other uses for a heavy action rod. thanks any and all suggestions are welcome this will be my last and probably the most expensive rod I will own for a long time. The kid is steadily getting more expensive and the wife wants another one
  17. Ok this is killing me. I am going to buy one more rod and that's it for a long while. (we'll see) here is what i have now. 7' med-hvy-mod casting avid------shimano citica 5.1:1 7' med-hvy-fast casting avid-------shimano citica 6.2:1 6'6 med-hvy-fast spinning avid----shimano sahara 2000 6'6 med-fast spinning avid---------shimano sedona 1500 6'6 med-hvy-fast casting premier-quantum accurist 7' med-hvy-fast casting gander mountain guide series tournament----shimano curado 200 6.2:1 (old green one) 6'9 med-hvy-extra-fast casting g-loomis spinnerbait series-------------shimano curado 200 5.1:1 (old green one) I mostly fish in the weeds around docks and pads I am trying to learn to fish deeper. The rod I have been looking at is this one http://www.kistlerrods.com/p/KR/c-fr-spinning-rods/He2MH69S.html I want to use it for skipping senkos under docks which accounts for probably 50% of my fishing. what do you think about that rod? do you see one I am missing? is there another rod better suited for skipping senkos? I will be pairing it with a shimano symetre 2500 what do you guys think mabye you will see something I am missing or mabye I am just thinking about it too much ;D
  18. jeez i was starting to think I was the only one. gamma is the best thing since sliced bread.
  19. sure you can use a baitcaster for senkos I have a 7' med-hvy avid with a shimano citica and 30# power pro that works fine but i would highly suggest getting used to a spinning outfit. It is very hard to skip senko's under docks with a baitcaster, backlash city.
  20. I have done well by lifting the rod so the frog moves like two-three feet pretty quick then reel in the slack and repeat. they will usually hit when picking up slack. i will usually do this when the twitch, twitch pause isn't working. a good coating of mega strike doesn't hurt either. not to thread jack, but a buddy of mine said he wont fish frogs unless he can hear the sunfish popping in them, you know that little pop they make when picking up bugs or whatever. what do you all think about that. seems odd to me but this guy has cought a lot of big bass.
  21. 1. is it true that storing batteries on concrete will hurt them I find it a little hard to believe myself. 2. I let the water in my batteries get a little low. it looked to be just below the top of the cells inside. is this going to hurt them. they are 2 and 3 years old right now. 3. can I charge my batteries in series. I have a single bank 10 amp charger not an onboard. 4. does it hurt the battery to charge a while, stop then charge a while then stop again. (my son keeps unplugging my charger, problem is fixed now.) thanks
  22. if I did it right i am at 71% 5.8 is my pb 8.15 is the state record. the problem is. that fish was 20 1/2 inches and skinny. but last year I cought one 21 inches and pretty chubby and didn't have a scale with me.
  23. imho it is the best reel out there in that price range. i own 4 of them
  24. first off lowrance, eagle same thing-almost. the only differences i can see is the lowrance has networking capabilities and a built in flasher mode. price difference is about $50 for a similar unit. I have used the fishmark 320 for about 3 years and my only complaint is the lack of power. I loose bottom in thick weeds it tells me how far to the tops of the weeds. but other than that a great unit. I actually like the 320 because it is a little more bold than the 480 and shows up better in sunlight with out sacrificing clarity plus it is about $40 cheaper. next unit I buy will have more power I would say a minimum of 2400 watts and at least 320x320 pixels. a bigger screen would be nice but then you really spend some $$$$.
  25. I have never used one I am just wondering how you work it. what size hook you use and favorite colors. anyone use knockoffs.
