  1. I went to lake vermillion this weekend and man did I get owned! in 4 days of fishing I caught a grand total of 6 fish 4 of which were walleye. I just couldn't find them I looked shallow, deep, weedy, rocky, I fished docks and nothing. we decided to come back a day early. this morning I went to an old favorite and I am glad I did. the wind was about 10mph north east and it was 45 degrees when I launched the boat. i didn't have any hope. then on my 3erd cast i caught a decent 2 pounder then on my 5th cast I caught another, then my brother caught one we were killing them! in 3 hours of fishing we caught around 30 bass and a northern all on baby -1's throwing them over lilly pad field that hadn't grown up yet. our biggest was 4 lbs 9 oz and we had alot of 3 pounders so it was a good day not many dinks. I guess I should have fished around here and saved the gas.
  2. a couple packs of senkos, topwater (zara puppy or jitterbug) spoons for pike and a random assortment of jigs for walleye. I usually bring alot more than that but i usually only use what i mentioned. hope that helps
  3. slow down, relax and enjoy the scenery. if you catch a fish be happy don't wish it was bigger.
  4. mine is an absolute joy
  5. When I worked at Gander Mountain my boss, who hated cajun line asked the rep the same thing and boy did that shut him up. ;D ;D
  6. I kill probably 4-5 a year I really don't mind since I love to eat fish I really only feel bad if it is over 3 pounds. usually if i want fish to eat I'll go catch 10 or 12 bluegill before pick up the boat.
  7. yeah i noticed that at the ganders around here too.
  8. check out those small 12volt batteries used in vexilars. I have gone two full days running the depthfinder on one charge and they only weigh like 5 pounds
  9. baitcast, shimano citica
  10. I have a st.croix avid 7'0 med-hvy moderate action rod that I feel is a little too soft. I throw a lot of baby -1 and dt-4 cranks. I don't feel like i get the distance I need I am using a shimano citica with 10# yo zuri ultra soft line. I have been thinking of running 10# powerpro hoping the smaller diameter will get me more distance I am just concerned about the lack of stretch. I have always used mono for cranks so i guess i would like a few oppinions before i switch. thanks
  11. lowrance H2O I have the lakemaster chip in mine I love it.
  12. Has anyone tried these? I just picked up two packs of the 6 inch at Dicks and would like to know. also if you have used them what size/type hook did you use and what style rig.
  13. i just bought 8 new ones for this year. they were so good to me last year i just had to
  14. 15. Gander will price match if it is local, no internet adds.
  16. I used to work at the Minnetonka MN store and then moved to the Eden Prarie store when it opened and there was a huge difference in selection. alot of that had to do with the size. Minnetonka had like 23,000 square feet Eden Prarie has like 87,000 and there was a different manager and so certain things were ordered more. I would say that they carry as much as they can and it depends on their location. we never had downrigger stuff, duluth MN store had it for example.
  17. I will call in sick to work just to fish in the rain. I usually stay out a lot longer too. man i love having the lake to my self and the fish seem alot more willing too.
  18. for most bass fishing a 6'6 med-hvy fast action will cover most applications. The Citica is an awesome reel I own 4 myself. As for the premier they are good rods I started with premiers and eventually stepped up to the Avid and I wont go back, the sensitivity is alot better imo and it feels a little lighter and the lifetime warenty doesn't hurt either. If you look hard enough you may be able to find the old model avids on clearance for around $100. good luck.
  19. the way you have it set now is how i usually tell beginners to start. the half loop on the reel when the lure hits the floor. as you get used to the baitcaster you can back off on the tension. I have mine set so loose that if i let a lure hit the floor with out thumbing it i would have quit the mess. so I would say back off the tension until you find that sweet spot between complete mess and max distance.
  20. five of diamonds is THE go to lure for pike. I also like the 3/4 oz size. the 3/4 oz gold red eyes work really well too.
  21. suffix elite in hi-vis yellow works pretty well.
  22. when in doubt buy shimano ;D umm yeah the curado will work quite nicely
  23. I have always gone in through ely I go to south hegman It is a decent lake but gets alot of day trippers because of the pictograghs on north hegman. if you go back to little bass fishing gets alot better. good luck and let us know how you do.
  24. wow it took a long time to get a reply on that one ;D ;D even though it was 11 months ago i still think about it all the time. when i went i hadn't fished yet and on my fifth cast of the season i landed a 5.8 lb largemouth. great way to start off the season. we caught tons of fish mostly shallow the spawn was going strong and we caught them on senkos, shallow cranks and lizards mostly, we caught a few on top water as well. weather was decent it rained two of the days we were there but it was just a light rain and we fished through it. the fire ban was a pain but over all it was a great trip i am going to vermillion this year instead I hope to hit the bwcaw next year though. good luck on your trip.
  25. honestly I think the best way to fish that lake is go during the week and just pick a bay, I like the west half of the lake myself just to narrow it down some ;D pick your bay and work it. don't worry about the rest of the lake, just about every where you go you will catch fish but if you learn a bay after a couple weeks you will OWN that bay. then try another bay and so on. that is the way i have done it and it really simplified things for me. good luck.
